Good News - 6th Graders Win Contest Designing LE Garment

Really nice story about some 6th graders in Minnesota who entered a national science contest. They decided to research LE, and ended up designing a prototype LE garment. They picked the topic because one of the team's coaches had just been diagnosed with LE. They're headed to the nationals of the contest.

From the article:

"This year has been exciting for (the students) because as they studied the topic they discovered each (student) has a connection with someone suffering from lymphedema," said Teresa Cook, one of the team's coaches. "They had no idea they had these connections so it became a real topic to them."

Warms my heart, and I'm really impressed. Sixth graders can recognize LE as an area worth studying and that most found they knew someone impacted by this issue. And, they can come up with a garment as well? Hmmm . . Maybe doctors and scientists could learn something from this.

This is very impressive -- it made me google the "nationals" that the local story talked about. Couldn't find final results of that -- seems there was online voting, but I don't know if there was also expert judging. Other teams got more online votes, but regardless...

Not only did they research lymphedema and come up with this innovative garment -- but they also addressed the political/insurance coverage angle! I love these kids!
