Are my symptoms worthy of concern?
Hello,
My mom is an 11 yr breast cancer survivor. She was diagnosed in her late 50s. My paternal aunt is 81 yrs old and was diagnosed with BC 2 months ago. They both experienced pain prior to diagnosis.
My right breast began hurting on May 12 when I felt shooting pains that immobolized me. This went off-and-on for about 2 hours.
On May 29 I started feeling a deep rooted pain in my right breast. It is achy and uncomfortable. The pain is constant. There is no lump that I can feel, Suggestions?

This is what the Mayo says about breast pain. http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/breast-pain/DS00760 Breast pain is rarely a sign of breast cancer. As the Mayo says, if this lasts through one menstrual cycle (if you are menstruating), or if you're post menopausal, then its good to get it checked out.
Usually breast cancer diagnosed before the age of 50 is more of a 'red flag' for single inheritable gene mutations. But about 70% of the women who do end up getting breast cancer have no obvious risk factors (besides being a woman). Only about 10-15% of breast cancer cases are thought to be due to single inheritable deleterious genes.
Two different breast cancers in the same family do not have to present in the same way. Remember, about 1 in 8 women in the USA will get breast cancer sometime in their lifetime.
I am *not* saying that you don't have breast cancer. I'm encouraging you to get it checked out.

I agree with leaf-get it checked out. You will feel better-either way. There's no harm in seeing a doctor and feeling better if it is nothing and feeling better if it is and you've caught it early. Pat

I agree, get it checked out. My breast cancer hurt! I woke up in the middle of the night feeling like a red hot poker was going thru my nipple. After about 45 minutes I even considered going to the emergency room. I had felt a lump on the outside of the same breast but put off going for a diagnosis as this was around Thanksgiving and I didn't want to ruin my 10 year old son's Christmas. My mother, her sister and two of their maternal aunts have breast cancer. After that pain in January I made an appointment with my GYN and had my double MX the end of March. Don't wait, the standby of breast cancer doesn't hurt is not 100% correct.

Any pains like you have described are cause for concern. Hopefully, B/C will be ruled out but it may still be a condition that needs treatment of some sort. Also, there are some B/C's that don't present with a lump, so there is just no guessing on this. Time to see a doc.
