rohanna - my doctor recommends rock crystal for deodorant. Sold in health food stores/organic-oriented grocery stores. I think it's worth a try.
-
Lisa: I'm so sorry to hear about your cellulitis. I had two bouts of it. One was 2 1/2 weeks after surgery, then another the first week of rads. They put me on Levaquin the second time, which was scary because there are so many warnings for that drug. I did fine though, and so far (knock on wood) it has not come back.. That Levaquin is some strong stuff and hope it works!
Gina: I eventually stopped sweating in my rads armpit, but still use Tom's. I think rads kills the sweat glands and the hair, so hang in there!
I am presently in week 7 (tx #32 today) and have 4 more boosts left. Went to see RO today and they were quite impressed by how good I look: both my skin and myself. The PA said I look refreshed and the RO said I am very, very tan! They are both right and I am feeling pretty darn good. Hang in there ladies. Boosts are so much better! Everything is peeling at this point, including nipple, armpit, and under the breast. Nipple looks almost back to normal, thank goodness! Makes me wonder...my mother-in-law, who lives in France, contacted a burn healer for me and I guess he did his magic on me across the miles last Monday during rads, 9 am sharp. I did not put much stake into how he was going to accomplish anything that way, but now I am wondering...could it possibly have worked??
-
My BS, and RO told me to use Dove soap............unscented, and white in color. works great..........as long as I shower everyday, no odor.............hope that continues.
-
Hi ladies'
Well I have 3 more boosts then I am finished......
My armpit is still very angry.
I have cut up so many bras and shirts ,just trying to get something comfortable.Congrats to everyone that have finished.Try and stay cool everyone
-
Hey Sagina, we LOVE vacationing in San Antonio! The RiverWalk is awesome! Well, girls, I've decided to just be stinky. Someone told me that GNC sells a deodorant that is like a rock so I'm going to check that out. My tat is next to the round scar left by my needle biopsy so I think, when my treatments are over, I'll put a curved line under them and make it a smiley face. LOL
-
Rohanna next time you're in town I'll show you more sites!
I'm further along than I remembered - chemo head - I only have 8 more to go!!!!! whoo hooo!!
Tuesdays I see my RO, don't know which was worse today - me falling asleep after rads in the exam room, or the RO forgetting I was in there - 4:45 pm I walked out of the exam room and waved at the tech - she had her purse in her hand - and said Oh my God he never saw you? lol. I needed the nap!
-
I am done!!! Last one was yesterday evening. I have to say I am very lucky and my skin seems to have held up very well, maybe from the dreaded Aquaphor and luck. My last whole breast was almost 2 weeks ago now and my skin is slowly fading, but no peeling. My skin never got really red, just slightly red. My rad techs also liked the candy in vases!
Hang in there and I'll let you know how my skin holds up from here.
Gina - lol, that is too funny! I have Herceptin today and feel like I could fall asleep there, I did not sleep well last night at all.
-
Gina - OMG! They just forgot about you? Well, I guess it's good you got some sleep, but, to be forgotten? Seems like you were a good sport about it at least...
ReadingMama - Congratulations! It's great not having to go anymore - you'll see...Glad your skin held up so well...
My skin held up very well until the boosts...That's when I ran into trouble...Either that, or it was a delayed reaction...But, it's been a week now and I think I've peeled where I'm going to peel and I seem to be on the healing end of things...
Hope everyone has a great long weekend :-)
-
So I was just noticing that my armpit on my rads side is pretty sweaty, and then I realized that since I finished rads & boosts LAST Friday I could have switched back to real antiperspirant on that side. Oops.
I'm still peeling a bit, but I think my skin should be in decent shape when I see my PS next week.
-
Checking in...... Feelin a whole lot better but still will be on Levaquin for another week. Seeing the surg onc next friday for a ckup on the cellulitis. Had a scare the other night tho, my heart wouldn't stop palpitating. Took like a good 30 seconds to stop and then I felt weird the rest of the night. She (surg onc) is recommending I see a cardiologist, after she talks to my chemo dr.
Hope everyone is doing better!
Hugs!
Lisa

Lisa: Glad you're feeling better, but sorry to hear about your heart palpitations. I've felt a little fluttering during radiation but just thought it was my inflamed chest muscles doing strange things.
I am done on Tuesday! Absolutely cannot wait! We went up to Toronto this weekend (about an 1 1/2 hours north of us) and it completely wiped me out. I'll be recovering today and tomorrow so I can finish feeling great.
Take care everyone!
Susan
-
Yippee! I am officially done with radiation! I cried, but privately: in the doctor's exam room after the PA left after giving me some parting gifts and then, I started bawling in the car on the way home. It is definitely a bittersweet feeling for sure. I go back in 3 weeks for a skin check, otherwise no more treatments (I'm triple negative)!
I brought in as a thank you gift to the radiation department some mini-scones from Panera bread and I wrote a card to them all. Such wonderful people. I will definitely miss them
-
Susan, I felt the same way you did, except I started crying while the last boost was going. I am triple neg too, but am having my first follow up mammogram this afternoon. I am still getting very tired in the afternnon; hope the fatigue is not bad for you!
Aimee
-
Susan - much congratulations on finishing- YEA!!! I had read that one of us got all teary at the last treatment and I thought "not me, I'll just be glad that this will be over"...I was wrong...Started tearing up during the last boost...Had to get myself together before the techs came back in...I don't know if it's the fact that all these treatments are coming to an end or is it: Now what? I had thought I was in the clear the last time and 15 months later it was: You are a cancer patient once again...Hoping I can make it further this time...
I'm taking an AI (Arimidex) for the first CA...Been on that 1 1/2 years with all it's lovely side effects...I think it's doing it's job because this time it was a ER-
Went out on my motorcycle on Sunday (one week out of rads) and after being out for 3 hours I had to go home because I thought I was going to pass out...Between the rad fatigue and the heat it was just too much...
Hoping you all heal quickly!
-
2 more boosts to go...I'll be ringing that bell on Thursday!
Congrats to you susan!!
-
Susan congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I start my first of five boosts today! My skin is really tight....not looking forward to holding my arms over my head for the films before the boosts.....almost over......
-
Thank you everyone for the congratulations! I don't have my follow up mammogram until November, but when I asked if there will be any follow up after my 3 week appointment, they said that I can keep coming in as much as I want until November, for my own sanity! I think I may be taking them up on that offer. Just having someone doing breast exams every month or two would put me at ease.
Aimee: good luck on that mammogram!
rita: can understand your being apprehensive after two bouts with the beast. The way I see it is how likely is a third BC?
thegood5: good luck on those last boosts!
gina: I can't believe you're already on boosts. Time really flies doesn't it?
-
Susan~ Time did go by fast since last October 13th.....I didn't think this week would ever come....My arm pit finally got up with your yours - so dark and mad! I"m getting the dark dots now and getting them under my breast too. My skin is very tight going to ask the RO today, if I stretch my arm up, everything starts to burn???? ouch.....yes, I won't do that again. PS I took your advice - I'm sleeping topless, even the t-shirts hurt at night.
-
Gina: I'd say "glad to know I wasn't the only one" but really I wouldn't wish that greyness on anyone, especially someone as nice as you, Gina. Hang in there. Monday will come soon enough. Just keep lubing up and hope your skin stays intact. Mine did! Maybe being grey is a good thing?
Everyone: Just wanted to say thank you for being there for me through rads. I couldn't have done it without all of you! I''ve never met any of you, ut I feel as though I already know you. Take care. I will still be checking in!
-
Good news!
Just got back from my mammogram and they said everything was normal!
Aimee
-
Yeah Aimee!!!!!
Susan my RO missed counted - who's got chemo head? My last one is next Tuesday - boosts start tomorrow - got films today- the RO said he can't avoid my arm pit with the boost because of the position of where the tumor was - I love talking in past tenses!!!! Everyone agreed today that the skin is holding up much better than they thought it would, yeah me!
-
Hi ladies,
All done with Rads. my angry armpit is looking much better.Very red where I had boosts.Had to take a 2 day road trip on Sunday. But all is good. All of you just starting good luck and keep up the moisturizing don't forget the armpit area. That is where i burned the most. Will check in and see how all are doing.Hugs to all
-
Aimee~ that is awesome news!!! Congrats and go celebrate!
-
Great news Aimee!!! Definately go celebrate!
Gina-my bosts hit some of my armpit as well (my tumor WAS
in the upper outer quadrant), but the only area that became worse with boosts was right along my incision. It is red because it peeled over the weekend. Otherwise, just sloughing off all the dead skin right now and am not allowed in the sun for at least the next 3 weeks. I am supposed to walk in the Komen Run on June 11th, but not sure if this would be wise. Besides, I might meet someone from radiation there and get in huge trouble!
-
Hi Ladies..............Started in April, and ran into May, so I'm just posting the result of what has happened................Did very well, and I have 7 treatments left...............5 which will be boosts........like others my armpit was hit, slightly, and it is red and a little sore, although this just started...............upper chest area is a little itchy with a couple tiny blisters, but nothing to really talk about.............I think I have done extremely well compared to some of you other ladies, unless the last 7 are going to do a number on me.........we'll see................Mark my adorable tech told me the 2 weeks after Rads can be tough too........he said you might have some skin reactioln".......................we'll see about that too..................glad I'm almost at the end of the road............have an appt with the LE specialist on Thursday, and the RO...........also need to get back to the BS..........Glad to see so many of you are finished......hugs.
-
Susan - I couldn't agree with you more...I don't know how I could have gotten thru this without all of you...I was soooooo pissed off at the beginning and then went with resignation that I HAVE to do this to stop another bout...I want to thank all of you helping me through this, sisters in cyberland! And yes, you're right, because BC #3? What are the odds?
Ducky1 - how are those scratch tickets going? Sorry about the skin issues - they suck - but before you know it, you're on the healing end of this adventure...
Walley - Congrats on finishing and yes, very good advice about continuing the moisturizing even afterwards (see - this is what I mean - great advice from girls that have "been there")
Aimee - I couldn't be more happier for you - Congrats on that clear mammo - you GO girl!
Gina - good luck with boosts - it's almost over...hang in there...
TheGood5 - wow! 2 more to go - betcha can't WAIT!!! Hope the time flies...
Hugs to all
-
Ritaz.........tickets going well........$53.00 in winnings, and 1 free ticket...............wish everything else today was going as well.........started off horrible, and now it seems everything is going shitty ,
Made a mistake with my Portals appt today...........thought it was tomorrow, and went to Rads as usual at 9am only to be told I'm suppose to go at 2pm today..........Don't know how i screwed that up considering i did it last week with the simulation.......thought that was at 2pm, and that was 9am.
I get my grandson off the bus at 3pm, today, so will not be back in time (I'm sure), and my daughter can't get home to get him...............he is old enough (12), to do this himself, but we are expecting severe thunderstorms today, and he will have to walk home in that mess, not to mention he is petrified of severe storms (thank God he doesn't live in Missouri), but it is upsetting to me that I'm the one who screwed up.. (but couldn't change things anyway cause his Mom is in all day meetings, and can't get out early)..........
Then when I did come home my hard-wired smoke detector keeps beeping every 5 seconds, and I did not no how to stop it........so I turned off the breaker..........Looks like today is just going to be "one of those days", but it has put me in a "down mood", especially after arguing with the "bitch" at the Radiology Dept who does the scheduling, pissed me off yesterday too .
Then to boot today that "bitch" was giving me a hard time, and my son intervened, and in doing so dropped the F bomb on her, and I near died......................REally not a good day today.
-
Just checking in, about 1 week after finishing now. I have slight peeling in the boost area, the rest of the skin continues to fade, except the nipple. My nipple got really, bright fire engine red for a few days, but is now slowing getting less red, no peeling. My RO said to continue Aquaphor for 6 weeks ! , but I think I will gradually reduce to only at night and use a different lotion in am. Lost another shirt to it yesterday, grrr.
Glad to see others are finishing and hope everyone had a wonderful long weekend.
-
Ducky~ I'm so sorry for your bad day! Maybe the bitchy girl needed the F bomb to remind her we are just human and overwhelmed at that - and you are the customer there....
REadingmama~ my nipple is so sore right now, and dark - except in some small places really pink? I guess it's peeling when I'm not looking? and I so try not to look! lol.
Ritaz~ thank you, yes almost over!!!!!!! yeah!!!!!!!
Susan~ my incision is high up and across my breast and it seems to be the "line drawn in the sand". It and below it is really maroon, right above it the skin is unaffected. They moved my sticker for boosts a little higher than my incision....we'll see....
-
just thought I would post a pic to show you all how my skin is holding up after 32 tx....last one tomorrow and feeling a little fried!
