Lump on rib. Should I be concerned?

Hi all

I have a lump on my rib - just below my right breast (I had a lumpectomy on my right breast on 4th Jan 2010). There seems to be a few smaller lumps as well as the larger lump on my rib and on occasion the area aches and feels a bit tender. I also have a pain on the rib to the right of my beast and it is very noticeable if I lay on my right side in bed. It feels buised and tender to touch but there is no bruising. The lump on my rib has been there for several months and I have not been too worried about it because it is not hard but feels soft as if filled with fluid. Prior to my BC diagnosis I was plagued with cysts so I figured the lump/s on my rib are probably cysts. I also think that the tendeness to the right of my breast is most probably the effects of radiation treatment. But it does seems to have got a little worse and I also have some pain in my back on the right side below my shoulder blade.

I just wondered if anyone had anything similar? I am seeing the Oncologist on 20th June so I shall mention it to him then. I am sure it's probably nothing to be concerned about but every so often I feel the lump and think the worst! Am a right in thinking that a soft lump / lymph node is generally B9?

    If you are concerned, by all means contact your oncologist to see if you can get in earlier.  It may be absolutely nothing.  I know I have a lump on my chest wall and my PCP and BS are not taking any chances and have done u/s, cat scan and now biopsy.  My PCP says better safe than sorry.

    Thanks pandy337. I probably had lots of lumps and bumps before BC but never really noticed them. Now of course I suspect everything and am hyper vigilent! I will mention my lumps to the Oncologist when I see him.

    I hope all turns out well with you too and I will be checking in on you to see how it goes. You are right - better safe than sorry.

    Has the lump gotten bigger? If you have had this for several months, I would call the Onc. now... just to be safe.. If you have something for more than two weeks, get it checked out especially if you yourself have any concerns. It doesnt hurt to just call your Onc. and tell them what has been going on. They will ask you a few questions, how long have you had the lump, do you have any pain.. is it worse now than before etc etc...Keeping you in my thoughts

    Thank you Donna - yes it has been there for several months now. But it is soft and moves about when I press it so I thought it was most likely B9. To be honest, I've had so many false alarms - lumps popping up in my groin and neck. I had tests for those including a head and neck MRI for the lump in my neck. All tests came out fine and the lumps eventually disappeared after many months.  Ironically I found the lump on my rib cage ages ago and said nothing to the Oncologist when I saw him because, as it was soft, I thought it was nothing. The only reason I saw the Oncologist about the lump in my neck is because I was refferred by the dentist and my local doctor referred me for the lump in my groin. I will now mention it to the Oncologist when I see him next - and I will also mention the pain in my side. My gut feeling is that is is nothing to worry about and the pain in my side is just a reaction to radiotherapy. But, as pandy337 said, better safe than sorry.
