Aren't we all here because we had BC? I am assumming that as a group we are amazingly resourceful and eager to find what will work best for US as individuals and collectively to slay the BC beast or keep it from our doors. Since so much depends on our individual genetics and the particular type of BC we had, no one protocol will fit all. Traditional, alternative, complementary...who the heck knows which cocktail will work, I just hope each of us finds the one that does for us. Merilee is right, there is no need for the anger and attacks from anybody. Sometimes we get emotional when giving our sides but it is always just our opinion. Nobody has all the answers or even the right answers when it comes to BC. All is just educated guesses. I say pooh on going blindly what a doc tells me and poo on going blindly what the opposite says to do. We all have our minds and our hearts. How about we use both to really help each other out?
(getting off my soapbox for now)
Have a good Monday

I'm not fighting attacking or exchanging mean words, that's not the way I carry myself.
I'm quoting and correcting susieq for her derogatory and offensive posts to many of us in the ACH forum and defending her false accusations towards me. Anyone in their right mind would do the same.
I totally agree that it is a real downer. I popped in and out of here for months and found many posts made by our lovely Sheila asking members to please be respectful. That's all I asked and instead received a patronising response.

asschercut, your posts deserve to be reported because they are an attack on another member, but I think it's better to let them stand so others will know how to deal with you. The folllowing statements are true IMHO.
"Why don't more doctors use alternative medicine - Because it doesn't work!!!!!"
"WOM: Your time might be better spent researching the success of chemo/Herceptin for stage of cancer, instead of wasting your time trying to find the miracle alternative."
"Seems like all the crazies and attackers are from the alternative side IMHO-probably because they are scared they've done the wrong thing and are very defensive."
-
Telling someone with an aggressive cancer that baking soda and honey will cure them IS crazy. That's my definition.
Annette, well said!
-
NO BULLYING, am reporting posts above
-
Well said Merillee and Annette. Unfortunately whenever we criticise others, no matter how "right" we think we are, or how politely we do it, we cause offense and that escalates the problem.
People have a view of themselves that is almost sacred. and when anyone suggests they are not how they see themselves, well, wars can and do break out! I've certainly upset people in my life and even on these forums despite my best intentions.
I don't know what the answer is to these disagreements. I think it would be lovely if we could appreciate how great it is to have a choice and support each other. But the reality is that people have different views, values and personalities and that's all part of our wonderful diverse world.
-
Luan, I'm not bullying anyone. Go ahead and report them. They break no rules and you will get your hand slapped by the mods.
-
Firstly I don't think that the ladies on the alternative forum need to be called "crazies."
Secondly, I don't know about baking soda and honey being a cure.
And be my guest Bluedahlia...report away.

Blue, wouln,t u just love to slap me but it aint YOUR PREROGATIVE, now get busy and look that up
-
Joy, you just admitted to criticizing and it is not welcome. Stick to the threads that concern your own situation
-
I may have missed something but I don't think anyone here is substituting baking soda for other treatments, and its certainly not a harmful thing for people to do. I reacted on the other thread to what i thought (and still think) were fraudulent posts but I don't see any harm in woman taking baking soda and honey. And I really think we shouldn't engage in any name calling for folks who are trying such things. I don't see any harm.
And in general I think most of the women who are pursuing complimentary approaches are also taking traditional and just looking for ways to augment and we should give them the space to do it in. And many of the women pursuing purely alternative have very early stage disease and there's probably no harm there either. I do get very concerned about women who have aggressive or advanced disease who are going purely alt, and will say so, but name calling has no place here.
But I also have to say that some of the alt women have a hair trigger when it comes to things like "BULLYING" and "hate speech." Going over the top with a reaction just fans these flames. And I've had posts where I wasn't disagreeing with anyone perceived as BULLYING just because I've been put in one camp or another. Really, everyone needs to chill.
-
Thank you Luan. You gave me my first chuckle of the day. I doubt there are many words I need to look up when they are spelled correctly and used in a grammatically correct sentence.
-
I very much doubt your French is more eloquent than your English. BTW u mispelled crap in one of ure threads calling it CARP, LoL
On the phone so " u" means "you", just in case... -
Yup, carp as in crap, but trying to be polite about it. Guess you didn't get it. We are not texting each other so U or u makes no sense on a discussion board FYI. How's your Italian? My French is just fine!
That's enough of that! See YOU!

I was watching Dr. Oz last week with this thread in mind and found him informative and entertaining. As many members of the audience were clearly being educated about their health and wellbeing, along with the TV audience at home, I think he's doing a great job. Most people just don't know enough about how their bodies work or how to care for themselves, as they tend to just leave it to their doctors. I think it's empowering to have that knowledge and it saves people from making mistakes with their health. Good for him.

It is important to be respectful of every member of the community. Before posting, think about how you would say what you want to say in a face-to-face interaction, and phrase it that way. If you don't want to read what someone else says, you can block Posts and Private Messages from another Community Member.
Thank you

Back to Dr Oz....I find the visualizations that he uses to teach about things at a cellular level interesting, informative and amusing. I choose to pass on things that don't interest me and do further research on the ones that intrigue me. I don't expect anything more from a tv show than to present possibilities that could help keep me healthy. I will choose what to do with that information.
-
Downloading a few of them now. Thanks.

I like Dan the Man, Life Regenerator, but he put out a video back in July that was most offensive to people with cancer, especially BC. It's possible he apologised afterwards and I didn't see it as I couldn't watch his videos for a while after that.

I think this is the one you are talking about.
-
Okay, just watched the one I linked above. I can understand what he was trying to get across even though I think he has simplified the disease quite a bit. I can also see why some would take offence to his comments but I just see it as his view of bc with some good points to pull out of it all.
-
Oh my ... Dan McDonald, the "Life Regenerator" and Lou Corona? For medical/health information? I'm not sure whether to laugh or cry. Yikes.
I will, at least, give them credit for disclosing their lack of medical training, credentials, or expertise and for disclosing their financial motives:

Thenewme, I was gouged by the "alternatives" about 12 yrs. ago for my PD. I figured I had nothing to lose (PD is not life and death) but it sure hurt my pocketbook and 12 years later I had to undergo DBS surgery. No one has the answers, but when we're talking about cancer, best to err on the side of caution and go with what our doctors advise. I refused chemo, but my cancer is ILC ER+PR+HER-, so my onc wasn't really pushing it.
Eat healthy, exercise and do things in moderation.
-
Susan, I have radically changed my diet too. However, I don't think the totally raw diet is for me. I do agree with him when he says that most people change it a few degrees at a time. So, you never know....?

To go back to the discussion about vitamins, supplements, et al.... I learned something very useful from my nutritionist at the beginning of our working relationship. One of my assignments is to have 3 colors of vegetables on EVERY plate (including breakfast.... ahem, very difficult!), as well as one vegetable that is raw. As our immune system has a lot to do with our gut health (or also stated as the gut is our primary immunity), the raw/cooked combination gives us a different mix of useful enzymes, fiber content, nutritional value, etc. For that reason, he suggested that I rotate my vegetables during the week..... raw carrots today, but tomorrow will be having raw spinach.
Ladies, this one change alone has dramatically improved my intestinal health. Now, I do take a fair share of supplements, but our goal is to reduce the number of supplements I have to take over time, and allow my body to heal with natural foods. It has been a year since I started visiting the nutritionist, and I am not at the point where I can give up supplements yet (they are kind of a security blanket for me), I am feeling stronger, better and I think I am making progress. It's really a lifestyle change, but my family reaps the benefits as well, since I am showing them how to incorporate raw vegetables in conjunction with cooked foods.
So, to keep you posted on my daily colors:
Breakfast: Spinach with scrambled eggs (ok, only one color-- not too good)
Snack: Banana, dried apricots, dried prunes, brazil nuts (2) and a few almonds
Lunch: Lentil soup, sweet potato, mixed greens salad with tomatoes and cucumbers
Snack: TBD in a few minutes!
Dinner: Looking for options on allrecipes.com!!
-
Sorry, thought I posted this on the natural girls site... reposting there!
-
I already find that my body can't tolerate a lot of the foods that I used to love. I cannot imagine what would happen if I ate a fast food burger now. Salty foods are another thing that I no longer tolerate. I am in awe of what I used to do to my poor body!
-
Raw is easy in a warm climate and in the summer... not so easy where it is very cold in the winter. Hot soup is really nice then.
-
Marianna, Susan, I,m getting great inspiration & motivation from you ! and bonus, great info. Never heard of those guys, will make sure to watch the videos, thanks a bunch
) -
Just watched the video on Pip's post and find it convincing, plus the guy is cute to boot....and certainly looks healthy to me
Nothing like going to a doctor who is very overweight, stinks of cigarette smoke and hands out prescriptions by the dozen.....
