I had both DCIS and IDC diagnosed in 2/2004 when I had just turned 49 and was already in menopause. Both components of the tumor were grade 1. Had a wide margin lumpectomy and biopsy tract removal in 3/2004 and then refused anything else - no radiation, no tamoxifen, no arimidex.  All is well with me so far!Laughing

I had a lumpectomy with high grade dcis (como-n type) twice and both times no radiation or tamoxifen. It's been over two years from the breast dx of dcis...no recurrence. What is amazing about it is the last dx it was multifocal....You would think with high grade multifocal it would had showed up in that breast by now.

I'm comfortable with my choice. At first the choice was more financial, but after researching it further, I am more comfortable with my decision. No matter what choice you make there are risk factors. There are side effects from bc treatment and if you don't, you could again like me be dx with dcis again. If you do decide not to do bc treatment, as my doc said, you'll need to make sure you are screened every six months. With either decision from what I've learned here at BCO, you'll always be looking over your shoulder for a recurrence. Do your homework...let it be your decision.

I had DCIS and had a lumpectomy and radiation.  The radiation went very well, I did not have a problem with my skin.  Now I am on Tamoxifen, started in Feb. and am a  little nervous about that.
