How many tattoos did you get?

Options

I went yesterday for simulation, since I'm starting rads next Tuesday. I'm doing the 4 1/2 week course of radiation.   I had 3 tattoos on my belly (one in front, one on each side)...they're doing another 5 or so tattoos on my breast next week.  Is that normal?  I thought I would only be getting 3-4 max!  I can't stand having this permanent mark on my body :(

I had four; around the boob area. They are tiny and do fad. I would have to really look to find them now. Weird, why would they tatoo you belly? Call and ask them.....let us know their reasoning.

I have four I think.  They are very tiny and can easily be mistaken for a freckle or small mole.  I got mine last Monday when I went for my sim.  I have one at the top of my abdomen just under the breast.  I'm a bit concerned about where that particular radiation will be going.  It just seems like my top rib could be affected.  I am definitely going to ask when I go for my dry run next Tuesday.  What did they use to tattoo you with?  They just used a regular needed on me.  I asked about it and the tech said that the hospital won't spring for a regular tattoo machine which would be much less painful.

I have zero, which is not an option that I see too often on these boards, but did want others to know about it, at least to have the dialogue. My radiation oncologist allowed me to just have sharpie markings covered by stickers (she also allowed me to have my zaps in the prone, face down position, so think she's pretty progressive). I am thankful that she gave me this no-tattoo option -- once marked up, I only took sit baths and was so extremely careful with dressing and sleeping on them, because I did not want her to regret her decision; they never needed to go back and remeasure things, just an occasional rewriting over the markings to make sure all was well and restickering. I am not at all afraid of needles, and am confident that the tattoo marks are as small as a pin heads or freckles, but for some reason this one mattered to me.

So far I have three - two on my breastbone and one under my arm. They are tiny. I really have to look hard to find them. I haven't started the "boosts" yet and won't be surprised if I get some more for that.

Where I go, they use the tatoos to line my body up with a red beam of light so I'm in the same place every time.

I finished rads in March.  I started out with 3 tattoos.  1 on each side at the bottom of my ribs and one mid breastbone.  Then when I started boosts, I got 2 more on the breast.  They are tiny.  I have to look for them even knowing where they are.

I have three.  All on my bra line under my breast.  One in the middle and one under each arm.  I have to look really hard to find them.

I have three at the moment and very tiny blue dots , same place as you sherry- That is all for now and it is to line you up with the machine so they hit the same spot every time.

I have 3. One at top of the cleavage area; one directly beneath this one but at the top of the abdomen & then one on my side under the armpit. They are not small and am going to enquire about having the one in the cleavage area removed. I didnt get any extra when I received the boost.

No extra ones for the boosts either. They drew on me with the sharpies for them.

I'm jealous of those that say they are hard to find!!! I had bilateral BC so had radiation to both sides. I have dark marks evenly spaced mid chest wall.....right where many shirts go below. I have 2 on the cleavage area and 2 on the sides of the breasts. My rad onc md doesn't like them removed "in case we ever have to do radiation again". The person who did my nipple tattoes also removes the radiation marks. Mine are really dark so she said they probably won't completely go away. I went the first time for removal and when the scabs fell off, they were still obvious. i went back last week and will see what happens when the scabs come off!! I don't know why they bother me when I have had a mastectomy and implants!

They wanted to give me 8; 2 on each side and 1 on the belly, then 5 on my breast.  After I struggled with the ones on my tummy and sides (they seem so large and blue and inescapable),  I talked them into only 2 on my breast with 2 more marks under tape.  2 down 21 treatments to go. I'm on a 4 1/2 week course.

I have 5 or 6. 2 on my sides, right on my rib cage (those hurt the worst), another in the clevage area. Then I got some more to align the plastic thingy I had to wear to position my droopy breast!

They still circled most of them with sharpies, each time. Don't know how many bras got ruined with the aloe bleeding the sharpy onto the cloth!

The tattoos started as black, but have since changed to a lovely turquoise.

Don't know why they'd caution against removal, in the remote chance that you'd need them again -- could be never! If they bother you, then, yes, get them removed!

At first they told I was going to need 8.  I balked and then they agreed to 4. I have one right at the top of my right breast at high noon, one in the dead center of my chest, one under my right arm and one under my implant on the top of my rib cage in line with the "high noon" one. Only the one at the top of my breast really bothers me, because you can see it when I wear a low cut shirt.  I little dab of coverup makeup does wonders though! I just couldn't deal with the Sharpie marks and stickers for 7 weeks.  We in pool season here and I plan on enjoying every minute of my summer vacation this year!!!

I was told I would have them, but then they just used sharpies with clear stickers over the marks. I even asked when they would do the tattoos, but the rad techs said they didn't know. They never did tattoo me. Weird, huh?

Zero.  I wouldn't sign the permission slip allowing the techs to apply the ink.  I wanted only markings that could be removed after the end of treatment, so they had to use ink and tape.  The markings were refreshed every week and so too the tape.  I swam, worked out, bathed and had no loss of radiation markings.  It was really liberating to remove these marks on the last day with a little alcohol wipe.  If you are given a paper to sign, simply indicate that you have read it and that you refuse this part of the plan, and then add your initials.  It's more work for the techs, but it's your body, so don't accept tattoos if you don't want them, or accept only the minimum number that will get the job done.  Best of luck in your treatment plan.

I have 4 - teeny, tiny little blue dots. One in the center of my chest, one up a bit & to the right, then one on each side. My husband jokes and says that if anyone notices them, then they are standing too close!  Best of luck with your treatment!

3?  maybe 4.  Honestly they are sooooo tiny, I can hardly find them.  About the size of one little pore, if that make sense.  I would agree with PoliceWife84---anyone can see them then they are too close.  And they have faded.  They are now like little tiny blue moles.  DH can't even see them .

I have to say, I was worried going to get the tatts given all I have read here and all the women who talk about getting other tatts over the zap tatts to cover them up.  .  But it was such a little thing---didn't hurt as much as drawing blood.  And once they were done, I didn't have to think about it again.  I considered tape like some women here but came to the conclusion that tape would be much more in my face than my micro tatts.

oh and the reason for not getting them removed is that they do mark where you have had rads and that is important information.  Besides, at least in my case, I'd have a far far far bigger scar from removing them than I have from wearing them.

I have six, I asked for heartshaped ones as a joke. I need humor to heal n deal. They were used for the radi techs to know where about the oncologist wanted exactly radiated. They hurt just a bit n just the above person said, they do fade. Make sure you use the aloe gel Always; I scabbed terribly. I would almost say chemo was easier. Good wishes sent your way!
