I'm 49 yo. My mother died of bc at 47, three of her sisters have had bc (1survived), 1 w/pancreatic ca and one of my cousins recently had tx (her mother is the survivor). I had my 1st bx in my early 30's and in recent years at least 1 every year. This mammography was clean but they saw something on sono. Bi-rad cat 4A. I had my bx on Monday. This time I feel especially scared and cannot think of anything else. Every year I say, "is this gonna be the year" I know they think it's nothing, but can't help but worry. My stomach is in my throat and I'm going out of my mind!

Niecey, anyone in your position would be nervous. It is hell going through these breast scares over and over. When will you get your results?

I too lived with the fear and worry from age 30 to 49 - when my latest biopsy came back (ALH-precancerous) - I decided to have prophylactic masectomies.  Finally the worry is gone, my risk dropped from 40% to less than 5%.  Has your mom been tested for the gene?  That might help you with some decisions and can help figure out your risk.  I went to a genetic counselor (mom had bc, negative for gene), also had strong family history - they figured my risk was 40% to get bc at some point in my lifetime.  Let us know your results..  hugs, Valerie

Mom died 25 yrs ago. I've been tested & it was neg. I think my risk is about 45%. Thanks so much.
