Just passed 7th anniversary!
Oct. 20, 2003- the day my world stood still.. and then started unravelling...
7 years later I'm recovered from the trauma which was being DX with BC, going through TX and being VERY sick from chemo..and then served with divorce papers right before starting herceptin- having to move 5 times in the resultant upheaval ..having to re-tool job skills and start a new career.
One year ago I was finally able to become a homeowner again.. now 7 years out from DX my health is very good, my kids are doing great, and considering the economy my new career is going well.
I also have a BF of almost one year who is amazingly supportive- who didn't run away.. and said I was an angel when we first started dating and I told him of my cancer battle, reconstruction, etc...
I owe so much to all of my sisters on this board who have pitched in with help and support and comfort countless times... Heartfelt Thanks everyone-- onward and upward!

Hooray for you! That is just the news I wanted to hear. I was just diagnosed with Stage 2 Grade 2 after lumpectomy. Am nervous and scared. My company-supplied health insurance just so happened to switch us all to Independent Contractors so I'll be on expensive Cobra in February. Oh joy. I am frantically trying to figure out how to find a second job to get health benefits (all in this bad economy!). I have my work cut out for me! It is so good, refreshing, and uplifting to hear a great success story like yours!!!

Congratulations Soccermom! You are an amazing woman and have an amazing story! It is so hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel when first dx'd. You are an inspiration to others that things do get better! God bless you!

Thank you everyone for your kind words! I love reading this thread when I feel down. Right now struggling with some health insurance/financial issues I wrote about over on that thread..but basically all is well and so thankful that my daughter just graduated from college! She had just started high school and my son had just started junior high when I was first diagnosed... I didn't know at the time if I would get to see her graduate from high school, let alone college!
To anyone just starting on this journey, just remember to keep telling yourself : "This is only temporary!" You can do it!
Love and hugs to all my sisters, and keep the faith!

Thank you for posting and sharing your story. I am undergoing some major difficulties in my life similar to the ones you had in terms of husband and work in addition to dealing with this illness. But after reading your post I look to you as my role model and I will keep you in my mind when I am down that it is possible to move forward. Thank you!
