I put in a call today to book an appointment with my surgeon. One nipple is disappearing before my eyes! I don't know if a revision is called for but I figured I better find out before I see her for my tat appointment in July since a revision will likely delay the tats portion of this program.
Hiding my earlobes beneath my bra may actually become a reality. And, better yet . . . the earlobe is already pierced should I decide I want to be a 59 year old with a nipple ring.
NOT!! -
I know what you mean. My only "complaint" with the 410 on my left side is that it is wider than the right (natural) breast. The two aren't a perfect pair size wise. Pretty darn close. My doc says I can always add a tiny implant to the right (natural) side later. But really, I'm done tweaking and fiddling with it. I just want to see how it all works once the nipples are on, how my weight fluctuates over time --affecting the right side--before I focus on recon again.
-
Mantra,
I have the same nipple problem on one side but I still have my expanders. I called the PS yesterday and they told me that it happens sometimes (I forgot the term she used) and they can take a look to see if they can bring it back out. Very strange.
-
Nolo, did you have a nipple sparing mastectomy? In my case, I'm actually referring to the nipples that were made using CV flap. One is fine . . . the other one should come with a magnifying glass.
-
Oh, yes I did have nipple sparing, Mantra. Now I understand what you are talking about.
-
Lilah: I meant to ask you... I'm not 7 weeks out from exchange and I still have an annoying tightness on my gummy side. Kinda comes and go... did you get that? And does that go away? My augmented side feels totally fine.
-
Erica -- I did have some tightness, so I massaged the area (and I also started doing stretching of the arm) and it made a HUGE difference. Get permission first from your PS before doing either. I think I waited till I was 12 weeks out before I did the massage... so that I would not interfere with the healing. As for nipples -- yeah, definitely it is a drag for a uni! I feel convinced that anything the doctor does is not really going to match my real nipple... but long term I do think I would like her to do something there. I bought a fake nipple to see how it might look to have something there and I do think it would look nice. And actually it was my PS who suggested I take a break and I was only too happy to do it.
Mantra -- I hope your PS can fix that for you. That's disappointing to be sure!
Gemini -- yeah it's a tough call for the radiated skin. You might also look on these boards and see if there are women who've had radiation who are talking about the subject of nipples. As for the matching of a uni implant with a natural breast, it's definitely tough! I think the best match (based on photos I've seen, including Erica's) is when the natural side is augmented a little to match. Something just works better with that. Me, I was reduced to match, so in my case the real breast is slightly fuller than the implant. But when I wear a bra (and clothes) you can't see it; I look totally symmetrical. So I am content.
-
Thanks, Lilah. I was reduced to match the implant side as well (I ws shocked actually) that they took away instead of adding. It's off and will probably always be a little off when I gain or add weight. But I think it's the best its going to be. I'm done messing with the size part and am not interested in adding a tiny implant to the natural side to give it more fullness. I send Estepp an email and will try Whippetmom too to look for nipples w/radiated skin. It seems, based on a cursory look around, that most women here went with the first PS's suggestion of just getting a 3D nipple and being done with it. But my local guy is confident it will look better with this flap step then the tattoo and based on what he sees now, doesn't think infection is that big of an issue. Thanks again!

Sounds good Gemini!

So here's a question that those of you with one gummy/one natural breast can answer. I come from a family of huggers. Everyone hugs. Friends hug. Ex-spouses hug. Ex families hug and on and on and on. Yesterday I ran into my daughter's exhusband and of course . . . you brace yourself for the hug you know is coming. Afterwards, I started thinking, how different does it feel to the "huggee" when hugging someone with implants. Is it extremely obvious? Spongy feeling?
-
Mantra -- my boyfriend says he can't feel the difference (when hugging me clothed). I feel the difference of course. I try to hug most people with my real side LOL... because it leaves me free from worrying about it (mainly).
-
Lilah . . . that's exactly what your boyfriend said to me too!

Ah, so you do the one sided, one arm, lean-in type of hug. Definitely an advantage to be able to do that. Just another one of those things-I-never-thought-about BBC . . before breast cancer.
It's funny because I HATE shaking hands. As soon as someone extends their hand towards me I immediately panic and start thinking . . . OMG did they just go to the bathroom? Did they scrub their hands? However, even though I'm okay with hugs (except for this implant issue), there are definitely people who you have to shake hands. I mean hugging your banker after he just told you your mutual funds have tanked would just be plain weird.

Does anyone have a link to get a copy of the Allergan 410 Matrix that has sizes with widths? I can't find one anywhere on line & have been waiting for 3 weeks for a copy from the PS research lady. I have asked whippetmom - but also thought since this is the gummie thread someone here might know.
I'm still waking up worrying about getting too big...and too wide. I liked how I looked with the TEs at 350, but haven't been able to budge the PS below 515 or 550. Crying again at 450 now & would really like to see the matrix before my next fills to 500 & 550.
-
Here you go:
http://www.allergan.com/assets/pdf/natrelle_catalog.pdf
If you like the width of your TE then you should be looking for gummy implants that are about the same width.
If you go to page 19 of the linked PDF catalog (it's page 13 if you use the PDF numbers, for some reason -- page 19 if you look at the actual catalogue pages) -- you will see all the different varieties of Style 410 gummy implants... the letters indicate height and projection... so 410 MF is medium height, full projection. Anyway, the width, height and projection are listed to the right in columns.
This link is also always printed in the header of the Exchange City thread (if you lose it).

Thanks Lilah. I appreciate your help. Jan

With 410 Gummies, were you told to wear a bra after exchange? For how long? While sleeping? Sports bra or regular?
My PS told me no need to wear bra after bandages from exchange come off but that contradicts what is said on these discussion boards. I have Alloderm...does that make a difference? Would love to hear if you Gummies out there were advised to wear bra. Thanks! -
Hi,
I have been on the photo site and have been looking for some "gummy girls". Is there a section somewhere just for gummies on that site too or do I have to keep looking through each posting under the implant section to see if they happened to get gummies?
Thanks much!
-
I think doctors all differ on the question of bras post-exchange whether it's gummies or regular silicone. My PS -- who is Madame Careful -- had me wear a supportive, wirefree bra 24/7 (except for shower time) for 8 weeks. Then I was free to sleep without one and, frankly, when I'm home hanging around I don't always bother with one (I'm a uni, though, so I must wear a bra when I go out or one hangs a little lower

I think it doesn't hurt to wear a bra to keep the girls in place for the first 8 weeks while they heal.

Hi everyone, 4 months out from my exchnage to gummies and still loving them! They have really loosened up a lot, they are so much more comfortable then when I first got them. I can squish them together and they fit in bras better than they did at first. They are great and look great in clothing. Don't have nipples and not sure what I am doing about that yet. Might just have tattoos, not sure.
My doc told me I didn't need to wear anything ever again (for bras). I wore a sports bra the first week or 2 and that was it. They have never moved, still high as ever and I haven't worn a bra since (unless it's for a night out in some special clothing etc). If I had nipples I might have to go back to a bra, so that is one of the factors I am taking into consideration.
nolo1098, my pics are on the photo site, I think if you search jillyg you will find me......they are from expander to exchange but I haven't taken any updated photos, should really do that.....they look just like they did after exchange though.
Take care everyone,
Jill

Jill -- while you're thinking about nipples vs. tattooed nipples... here's the website of someone I've read about here on BCO... who does unbelievable 3D nipple/areola tattoos! He is in the Baltimore, MD area... and might just be worth a little field trip!
http://vinniemyers.com/section/105672_Nipple_Areola_Tattooing.html
This link takes you to the page on his website that shows examples of his 3D nipple/areola tattoo work.
He shows before/after shots - and I am amazed at how good the unilaterals look! I am a uni and I have to say am not rushing to get a nipple... but, that said, I would not have believed a 3D tattoo opposite a real one would look THAT good.
-
Thanks Jill! Good to hear that you are happy with your gummies. I will take a look.
-
jillyG: Nice to hear yours have loosed up. I'm a uni and 9 weeks out now, and it still annoys me. My augmented silicone round side doesn't bug me at all... but the gummy side is still a bit tight. If I wear a bra, I feel fine. If I don't, it's quite uncomfortable.
Not "painful" per se, just annoying and uncomfortable. -
Erica -- have you tried massaging the gummy side? I found that helped a lot. Maybe it would have loosened up anyway without that... but I do feel very good now (many months later).
-
Just got my gummies yesterday....a year in the waiting, I'm home from exchange and haven't unwrapped yet to look in the mirror, I will that tomorrow. I have drains in, but very little drainage compared to MX. Can't wait to see and feel ...since I had TEs for a year I am hoping they are much softer and more comfortable.
Any words or thoughts from the veterans? -
Oh gosh I could tell mine was softer and more comfortable the minute I woke up in the OR. I had had bad shoulder blade pain from the TE (it was very tight I guess) so I woke up and was immediately aware of the absence of the pain (which rain down my arm). My gummy is very soft now (over a year later) though it was firmer at first. I think the softness/firmness is at least in part dependent on the muscle (and how quickly it relaxes). Either way, you should be feeling more comfy already!
-
Hi everyone, had my exchange a week ago and got my drains out today...thought I wouldn't feel this heavy feeling anymore, thought it was the drains....is this normal?....they look good, but thought they would feel lighter than the TEs...
-
Lisa:
What is the style number of your 410s? I have a matrix and call pass along the weights. I'll PM you tomorrow about the doc.
Jan
Edited to say I hope others who have already had their exchange will weigh in for Lisa and for me.
-
I have 450 Mentor Gummies, So far so good, getting softer and changing a little all of the time. I do not have to wear bras now if I do not want. Photos on photo page. My Gummies feel about the same as when I was filled to 485. Had exchange in May and tonight I noticed they are moving more. Good luck.
-
I have the MX-410's and two sizes because I had a LD flap on my right side....370 and 410... I would say I'm size -ise a C...which is what I was before MX. Slept the first night last night sooo much better than with TEs and then drains...it was sooo nice. I've had TEs since last August...so this was huge for me.
