Update on Sister

Hi all you wonderful ladies, I just wanted to give you an update on my sister, she was dxd on 8th April with DCIS in two areas on the left breast and was told it was Comedo Necrosis medium to high grade and the best treatment was a full mastectomy with immediate reconstruction using an implant, she had the surgery on the 26th April and is doing very well, the implant she said is taking some getting used to as it does not feel the same as a real breast, of course this is to be expected. Today she has been back to see the surgeon and get more results, she has been told that there was a 5mm tumour, so does that mean it went from DCIS to invasive? also that the 7 nodes they tested were clear, good news, and that the cancer was Oestrogen+, they still do not know yet about whether it is HER2, the results are not back yet, they have suggested that she goes on Tamoxifen and have given her all the side effects, which of course are not very pleasing but she may not suffer them, not everybody does right? but she is going to have a breast reduction on her right breast in the near future to make it nearly the same size as her implant and they said if she has already started the Tamoxifen she would have to stop it before the surgery, so wouldn't it be best all round if she didn't start the drug until after the surgery, or what about her not taking the drug at all, we are so new to this and as you can understand we have all been confused on the start of this long and harduous journey so any advice/help please will be greatly received, thank you all very much.

Glad your sister is doing well.  She is lucky to have you to look out for her.

FYI, I am on tamoxifen since August and have not really had any SEs or issues.  There is a thread on Tamoxifen that might have more info for you.
