Hello everyone! I am a physiotherapist who deals frequently with woman pre and post mastectomy surgery. I am finding more and more that a lot of women are left with a little outpocket of skin/fluid right near the armpit where the bra would run on top. Many of my ladies are complaining that the bra irritates this pocket of skin and makes walking or working out very uncomfortable. I have sent a couple to get fitted for proper sports bras with little success. Can any of you out there suggest a solution??? I would really appreciate it!

Thank you!

No advice on bras, but that pocket of fluid may be indicative of truncal or breast lymphedema - your clients may want to find a certified lymphedema therapist who can determine whether it is breast or truncal LE.  If so, your clients can be taught manual lymph drainage massage techniques which can reduce that area.  There are also LE aids such as "swell spots" which can be placed over the affected area to promote drainage of lymphatic fluid.

I had one of those pockets, but when I practice my LE management techniques, the size of it is greatly reduced.
