First boost today ... and they couldn't get the machine to work right away.  Not a great feeling.  They add this square attachment for the boosts (i thought it would be round or a cylinder) and something wasn't working.  They ended up taking another one from 1 of the other rooms.  Still unnerving, but 1 down.  My markings that they did Friday, were rubbed off by Friday afternoon, but they did not remark today, they just went by the films.  I don't think they are going to remark, but I don't mind that.

Thanks for the gift ideas, I will keep thinking about it, although I like the dot to dot book idea!

Sammolisa, thanks for checking in with us, sorry to hear you are still getting redder.  I think my RO said I wouldn't come back for a check up for 6-8 weeks after I was done, Seems like you are going back about 2 weeks after you finished?  I wonder if that is more usual?

I'm lucky I only ruined 1 shirt with Aquaphor and although I don't like it, my skin did hold up really well (knock on wood still).

ReadingMama~ the same thing keeps happening to me with the marker right in my clevage...they marked me on Friday but my boosts don't start until next Wed.  They told me to try to keep the sticker over the marker...it came off as I was changing in the dressing room!  My husband had to keep taking the green sharpie to me all weekend.  When I went in today, I asked for a different sticker they had used before that really sticks, and the newer tech slapped it on and had my skin all pinched under it.  By this afternoon I couldn't take the pain of that anymore and took it off, along with a little bit of skin...ouch!  I could hardly stand it when my hubby sharpied me again, and he looked like he was going to cry while doing it!  Can't wait to go back again tomorrow for another sticker...not!  I'm wondering if the square attatchment they put on for you for your boosts is the same thing they put on for me for my one zap they give right on my sternum to get a node there.  I am all red and blistery because they zoom in just a few inches from my skin.  Every place else, under my arm and back are feeling fine, just a little red.  Hope you are feeling better!

Got measured for the boosts on Friday too...they marked me, but didn't mention that the marks had to stay - good thing - it just rubbed off onto the sports bra anyway...Had the first boost today...Took them awhile before they were able to line things up, but, it was just one shot, instead of 3 but it was one looooonnnnngggg shot...no attachment used however...

This past week my skin decided it had quite enough of all these rays and finally rebelled...Very sore underneath my breast - read someone had put a sanitary napkin underneath and that has helped quite a bit with under there...Keep putting the Jean's Cream (first ingredient - aloe) and was advised to put hydrocortizone on the rash...just a "tan" color under the arm...I think that's just lucky on my part - my friend had her underarm turn black at the end of rads...

thegood5:  Yikes on the sticker...Sorry you had to go thru that...

I think I'm just going to go with a tray of Italian cookies for the staff on Friday...maybe a box of Joe (Dunkin Donuts coffee) if I have time to pick that up on the way...

Hope you all have a good week...

Thanks Ritaz.  I feel lucky too with the armpit...my scar from my SNB is turning an even deeper purple and is a little sore, but there's no sign of blisters or anything like that.  I also heard that Curad nonstick pads are good for under the breast...hoping I won't have to worry about that since mine have never been huge, not that they are still perky, but there isn't really any skin to skin going on there!  I guess they had to mark me to be able to figure out what the angles will be for my boosts, but it seems odd that they had to do it almost 2 weeks before I start them and they expect me to keep the markings there.  I have a raw spot right in my cleavage and am dreading them putting a sticker on there today when I go in.  Wow, no one ever told me that having BC would be such a great time!  Yell

down 4 with 4 more boosts to go ... the attachment is actually touching my armpit when they zap me.  Armpit is black with white blisters.  Clothes are not really an option... only those (aquaphor) ruined camisoles & boys muscle t's ... I asked and rec'd for some pain relief meds ... which help for a little while. Friday can not come soon enough.  On the positive - my nipple and underneath my breast is already starting to heal... I couldn't use the pad - it stuck and it took tears and wine to get it off.  (the wine was for me:).   I am feeling like limbo is coming though ... after constant medical care for months ... I have an appt in mid June with my BS and July with my Onc ...  does normal return after this?  Does anyone remember what normal feels like?   Hang in there!

Lisa:  Cupcakes sound like a great idea!  I'm sure they loved them.

I went to the RO today and he said that it will get worse before it finally gets better.  There is a delayed reaction with radiation.  Funny, his first reaction when he saw my breast today was,

"Well, we can certainly see that you have been getting your full treatment!"  Yeah, it's pretty obvious.  I guess I am starting to peel in my armpit and the area along my side is just about to.  the boosts start on thursday, but unfortunately, this portion will be halfway into the field. :(  Hope my skin survives the next two weeks :0

rita-I am one of those lucky ones with the black armpit, but it is starting to peel off and the underneath is white!  Yaay!

I was thinking of bringing in some fancy Italian cookies from a bakery as well!  i guess great minds think alike ;)

Debbie - this is round 2 for me...Yes, you do feel like you can get back to "normal" but it's a new normal - with scars that remind you of what has been...When I was diagnosted again after 15 months if was like:  well, here we go again...And this time, instead of bracatherpy it's 6 weeks full breast radiation...I'm still "lucky" in as much as they find mine as calcifications and no full blown tumor so there hasn't been any lymph node involvement...But, really, there will come a time that you wake up and don't think of BC immediately...But realize that those lovely pink ribbons are everywhere - lest you forget completely...

Susan - I'm so sorry about the black armpit - hope it's not too sore...I was told by the RO that the effects of this treatment will last at least 3 - 5 days after it ends...Apparently, it's the gift that just keeps giving...And I remind myself: This too shall pass...
And yes, who doesn't like Italian cookies?  Would love to bake but I'm just too damned tired...

    Friday can't come soon enough...

Ladies...........not sure where i belong.......I started in Ap;ril with Rads, and am running through May.........So far I am at # 17 with #18 tomorrow.......Just starting to get pink............My RO asked today how my breast is feeling.............told her..............I know I have one now, where normally I don't..........Hopefully it goes well, and yes as good as the Aquaphor is, I had the grease.......not because itis greasy, but what it does to your clothes, and nighwear........I am going to go out and buy T-shirts........I'm so pissed because I had at least 20 big T-shirt type tops, and lost weight.........when I moved I said "oh I don't need these anymore, and threw them into a good will bag..................most were perfect.............the stained ones I could have worn and who would know with the mess Aquaphor makes.......oh well someone is wearing them, and it isn't me.  Damn I'm angry at myself, and I never throw anything away that is what is so strange.......but when your moving,it seems like you throw away even good stuff, just to avoid packing it.............dummy me.   but who knew in Dec. 2010, that in Feb. 2011 I would have cancer, and need those damn shirts.

Aww Ducky, doesn't it just figure that we need something after we debate over whether or not we should keep it?  That's why I can never get rid of stuff in my closet...I don't wear some stuff, but I know that if I get rid of it, that's when I'll need it!

You are perfect right where you are.  I also started in April and will go thru the beginning of June...I still am on the March thread too because that was when I was supposed to start but got delayed due to more surgery.  I was wondering where you had been!

the good5..........I started in April, then moved into May, and will end up finished around early June...........Will be glad when its over (other then starting that stinkin hormone pill), but so far I have been doing ok..........

I have won $40.00 on my scratch off lottery tickets, which covered the cost of $33.00, so I have actually played for free now.................would love to hit the big one, but what the hell, at least I covered my expenses......

RO said I'm doing good, and I do feel fine, not even that tired, unless the worst is yet to come.....My daughter says go to the $ store to buy the t.shirts.

Although she has a 30% off coupon for Kohl's, so I might just go there tomorrow and buy the plain Hanes T.shirts.........they can't be that expensive...............

Ok, off to pick up my grandson, at the school bus.......will check in later with all of you..hugs.

Rita:  I am way too tired for baking as well!  :(  Otherwise I would probably be baking something everyday to comfort me throught rads.  There is a reason for everything even fatigue ;)

    Did someone say "wine"? :-)

too funny ... after rads today I stopped and bought more wine ... I figured it was better for my liver than pain meds!   As for baking ... does 'break and bake" count?  Those white chocolate macadamia ones are good! (especially with red wine LOL)

duckyb1 - I'm glad to see your posts today. I had been looking for you on the May forum and missing your good humor. Like you, I'm not sure whether I belong in April or May. Finished #16 today and also looking for soft t-shirts to sacrifice to the Aquaphor cause. Hate what it does to the clothes, have to say it's a fast-working moisturizer.

I thought I was going to have 1 t-shirt to sacrifice, but after last night can't bear to put it back on so will need to lay in a supply. Just hope I don't have to start using it in the daytime.

Last night, the t-shirt was so sticky uncomfortable that half-way through the night I took it off and slept topless on my back. I used a pillow to make a little tent so I didn't get that grease on the sheets.

    Glad you're still posting.

To everyone with the aquaphor dilemma...buy a pack of Hanes mens t-shirts and wear them to bed...cheap and not devastating to ruin.  I do aquaphor only at night and use 100% aloe gel and Remedy cream during the day.  Good luck!

WEll will make a visit to some store tomorrow to buy Hanes T shirts.........thank heavens I'm too old to worry about being "sexy"..............If my husband were alive I'm sure I would drive him wild with my Hanes number every night...............It seems you can't win, the Aloe is so freakin sticky everything clings, and the Aquaphor is so greasy you could actually slide out of bed if you didn't hold on to the mattress when you turn over........

Well no one said it was going to be fun right.........................Here's to Hanes...............Tongue out

Duckyb1 - I was just thinking this morning - "where has she been"?  Nice to see you back (at least in this thread)  You got that right that nobody ever said this would be fun...

Have had two boosts so far - I think they're going thru the front of the armpit because I have a big red mark there and it's really sore Yell  Wish I could go without a bra, but I can't.  I remember somebody saying to put on a soft t-shirt and put your bra on top of it...Let me tell you, it looks rediculous but feels so much nicer than the bra against the sore skin...

Oh boy, three more boosts to go - I may start dancing on Friday when it's done...

ritaz...have you ever seen Splash...a Tom Hanks, Daryl Hannah movie in the 80's?  There's a scene where he comes into his office and his secretary, who has been hit by lightening, is wearing her bra over her blouse.  It's really funny. And I tried it regardless of how ridiculousI looked!  Anyway...I think it's more important to laugh over what we are going through than to worry about our fashion!  I support your style choices!

duckyb - glad to see you, was wondering how your lottery winnings were coming along!  never did get out there to buy myself some...

the good 5 - I'm all for it, a virtual wine toasting party!

Right now my main issue is being tired, it's really catching up to me and is not being helped by my problems falling asleep.  Last nights lights out 10pm and still rolling around 10:45 when dh came up. Sigh.

I'm sure all the rain doesn't help either, I haven't walked (for excersice) since Saturday and got completely soaked on my walk to work yesterday, literally dripping wet despite a trench coat and umbrella.

My underarm is not in the rad field, so I'm doing okay there.  A little surprised that my redness is so "square", not sure what I expected though...

Hey to all my friends who missed me...........wow its nice to know people care..........well I was in D.C. from Friday 13th till Sunday 15th.........My grandaughter graduated from CAtholic University of America......she got her degree in Nursing....will be working at Childrens Hospital in Philly.

We had a ball..her 2 brothers flew in from Chicago, and 1/2 of my kids went, and 9 of my 18 grandchildren were there...........Boy did I need all that fun.........we went to a Piano Bar on Saturday night, and we danced, sang, drank, ate, and me and my grandsons even got on the stage and sang "Friend In Low Places" with the Piano players.....Honestly I hated to see it end.........when it was over, my 2 grandsons went back to Chicago, the rest of us went back to Philly (area), and my sweet little graduate grandaughter got on a plane for Las Vegas with some of her classmates for a last hurrah before going out into the real world.

Was so glad I could make it.......I'm on Rad # 19 tomorrow out of 33, and so far it has actually been smooth sailing.........not even pink............I'm sure that is not going to stay that way, but at least for now I can relax and hope it does,  hahahaha......funny me................

I am swollen on my right boob.......I thinik I'm a 40 FF on the right,.............and my 40 D on the left.

I have won a few more scratch offs...........actually I covered my cost........It was $33.00 to purchase the tickets, and I have won $40.00 and still have a lot to scratch........It is fun anticipating what is next..........Right now I am 8 wins, and 9 losses......not to bad.

thegood5.........my grandsons go to Franklin and Marshall college right in your neck of the woods......I'm there every Saturday during football season....both my grandsons play, they are brothers also..........great players......they both played defense, and next year the coach is changing 1 of them to offense........he is good either spot.

ok ladies, just wanted to let you know I 'm still here.....you all have a great nght.

the good5..................My one grandson is going into this Jr. year, and the other will be a Sopomore...........So I have been going to games for 2 years now..........Actually my son called me last night to tell me the one boy made the Dean's List, and the other had a 3.0 GPA........I have 18 grandchildren, and this is just 2 of them..............Some Saturdays we have as many as 15 people go to the games............I also had a grandson who played for Carnagie Mellon University a few years ago, and we would drive up and back to Pittsburgh every Sa'turday to watch him play........In his Sr. year he quarterbacked them to the Championship........He broke his back in a game, but healed and got back 1 month later to play in the championship game..............Now he lives in Chicago and works for J.P. Morgan Chase..........I go to all my grandchildrens games regardless of what they play.  Some it is softball, some baseball, one golf's, another Soccer, my grandaughter Volleyball, and she also is 2nd in the State in track.

Its fun, and it keeps me busy.............Just hope I can always do it..............have a great night
