DIM

Options

Hello ladies,

I was wondering if you all waited until your treatments were over before starting DIM supplementation or if you began once you received your diagnosis (if you knew about DIM at that time)?

I was diagnosed with DCIS last Friday.  I just turned 44 in April and am pre-menopausal.  I had my initial consult with the surgeon yesterday.  The MRI is scheduled for next Thursday.  I'm wondering if it would be beneficial or possiby harmful to start the DIM supplementation now or if I should wait until after surgery and radiation therapy?

For supplements I currently take a multi, fish oil, vit d, vitc, vit b12 and iron.

Also, I don't yet know the hormone receptor status of my DCIS but I was wondering if anyone here uses DIM in addition to Tamoxifen?  I'm not sure that I want to take Tamoxifen but will discuss all my options with my doctors when the time comes.

Thanks in advance.

Natalie

    Hi Natalie,

I waited till chemo and rads were finished, and then I did a detox as well, before starting my DIM.  I was on it for about a month before starting my Tamoxifen which I have now been on for 3 weeks.  I would maybe hold off on taking it since you don't know your ER status yet. Also, before starting it yourself, you may want to talk to a naturopath who can advise you on dosage amounts and times and what it may or may not interact with.  Just gave me more peace of mind and I like not self-medicating anymore.  :)

Hiya! As far as I know there aren't really any side effects from DIM therapy? I read once that headaches can occur if you over do it. I am starting DIM on Tuesday instead of taking Tamoxifen. Under supervision of a Naturalpathic Dr.

I think whenever we treat a disease with whatever option...we should consult a Dr.

    Good luck and good health!

What does it mean and what can you do with the percentages of your positive hormones if you find them out?

Has anyone here been given (by a holistic or Chinese medicine practioner) DIM thorugh creams?

As soon as I got my diagnosis my Doc tested my estrogen metabolism ratio with the 2:16 test and my bad estrogen was really high And ratio was .33 so I started on DIM right away. Later tests confirmed er+. I take it everyday even through chemo. I do stop all supplements 12 hours before my peptide shots 2 days before chemo and then I can resume them 1 hour after the peptide shot.

My doc and I credit my peptide shots, nutrition IVs, diet and supplements with my lack of side effects from chemo. No fatigue, no neuropathy, no mouth sores, no watery eyes, no nausea, no runny nose, and no neupogen or neulasta shots - I boost WBC with diet and the above regime. My supplements include Transfer Factor to boost immune function
