ARGH-- now they want my uterus!!

just had my post-op after my OOPH two and a half weeks ago and my Dr told me that a polyp that she removed from my uterus showed very slight abnormalities (not invasive) and she thought I should get my uterus removed as a preventative measure. She also says I need to get off Tamoxifen and get on an aromatase inhibitor.  I am reeling a bit since I cannot believe I have to have surgery again.

    Oh, s#it Christine, I am so sorry.

    I think we have a little mental map in our heads of all the things we need to have done treatment-wise, and then something like this comes along and throws a wrench in the works.

    I guess the only thing you can be grateful for is they found this before it caused problems. Better surgery now, than another Cancer Dx a year down the tracks. Cold comfort, I know.

    What a bummer that you have to go back - I had a total hysterectomy all at once done laproscopically - not too big of a deal but I am bummed that you have to go back - hope recovery goes quickly

    Thanks everyminute! I was exercising again within about a week of the OOPH but the doctor seemed to think that the recovery for this op would be a solid 2 weeks. I am juggling the fact that my partner will be away all summer (leaves in 2 weeks)and I will be alone with our 12 year old. PLUS my job makes me travel all the time--I asked the Dr if I could wait til the end of the summer and she thought sooner was probably better. So here I go. Very curious for those of you that switched from Tamoxifen to aromatese inhibitors what the transition, s/e's etc were like--

    Oh no.  sorry.  You must have mentally over with surgery and then...

     I had a ooph a few months ago and the surgeon asked for permission to do a total hysterectomy if she saw anything suspicious.  Luckily it was clean.

    I'm glad at least your surgeon is changing your estrogen blocker.  My sister had an ooph and her onc and surgeon never changed her from tamoxifen for years after surgery.

    I had it all at once and was back to work in a few days - it was 2 weeks til I was walking fast again but I was walking at the track before that.

    I stayed on tamox for another 2 years after that and only switched to AI (arimidex) this past Jan.  It has been 50/50% side effect wise - some ways I feel better (less bladder pain) but maybe more hot flushes .  Have a litte more energy too I think.  I didnt do too badly on tamox or ai overall!

    I switched in January from Tamoxifen to AI too, and it hasn't been bad at all. Haven't had joint pain at all. I tolerated both well, thankfully!

    Hi there,

     So sorry to hear of your surgery. I switched as well right after my oomph...I wanted to switch as I new ALS were more effective in terms of reoccurence. I had no side effects really.. I feel good.. No different... I do have some mino hot flashes but that is about it... Hang in there:)

    I had a total hysterectomy at Christmas because Tamoxifen increased uterine cancer risks and I also wanted off of Tamoxifen and on an aromatase inhibitor. I didn't really have any side effects w/ tamoxifen nor any with arimidex. I also had the TEs out and implants in during same surgery. This surgery was a walk in the park compared with original bilat. mast. Had surgery on a Thursday and was at Basketball games that Saturday, Good Luck!

    I got a total hysterectomy this Christmas because of Tamoxifen's uterine cancer risks, I then switched over to arimidex just because it seemed more effective and the side effects were better. Really didn't have any problems with Tamoxifen. This surgery was not bad at all, almost wanted to see my uterus because my surgery seemed so non-debilitating. Good Luck!

    I was only on Tamox for a few months, but I really have no problems with Arimidex either - hot flashes, and I do notice some joint pain if I don't exercise every day. That's it really.

    Hey all-- thanks for the responses! spoke to my onc nurse last night and am now officially off Tamoxifen. My oncologist thinks the OOPH surgeon might be being too conservative and we should show the slides to another MD for a second opinion-- I'm torn between not wanting any more surgery right away BUT also wanting to just get the damn thing out!
