Who has opted for BMX?

Hi Birdyrobin. Just checking in with you to see how you're doing. So you are scheduled for surgery on May 16th? That is soon, next Monday. It's good to get started on treatment. I found the waiting and tests the worst part. You will get lots of support here from other ladies that have done BMX. Are you still finding time to spend with your horse?

robin-seriously in a do over I would have done the deip flap-----------belly to breast. the implants just aren't good. I had them in 78- and 80. told each PS the size.  I wanted to be acertain size and why unbeknownst to me they took me to the max each time and i'm only 5;3. ------------all I can say is some sort of arrogance on their part, I was absolutely specific and a nurse. I talked their language,

I would like to take the whole 850cc and put it in their scrotal sack. I think they would not make that mistake again.

Robin -I think there is a deip thread you might want to visit that. Plus ask your doc how many they have done and what the outcome was? infection rate? Anything unusual? The same types of ?'s that you would ask of any other surgery.       Good luck

BirdyRobin:  Here's a funny song story.  My husband and I both have long backgrounds in healthcare so our sense of humor is a bit on the warped side (survival mechanism I guess).  In the car on our way to San Francisco for my first post op visit after my BXM Tony Bennett actually came on the radio singing "I Left My Heart In San Francisco".  We looked at each other and burst out laughing.  Tony left his heart there, but "I Left My Boobs in San Francisco".  It was a stressful time and it felt good to laugh for the first time in a few weeks.  Well, maybe you had to be there........

BR use the PCA button, if it doesn't take care of your pain the systems designed for them to give you extra. If that doesn't work ask them to call the doc. If they say they won't ask for the supervisor. This isn't written to scare you. It's to teach you how to work the system.

This approach should be used for any sx. They have a protocol where they fill in the blanks. well one size fits all---doesn't fit all. Most place have it down pretty good now for addequate pain control. But at least you know what to do if you need more.

Initially I was scheduled for a lumpectomy for my ILC-then the MRI came back with a much bigger area: 4 cm, not 1.4 cm the ultrasound showed. Once I knew I had to have  a mastectomy I said, "take them both off." The surgeon didn't want to do it, but I would have been a basket case looking for ILC every 3 or 6 months or whenever they check in the clear breast. I haven't regretted it, although the reconstruction makes my shoulders tight-I have to watch my posture and stretch everyday.

As mentioned, I have no regrets and doing really really well.  Its been a few weeks, but I am almost back to normal.  I can/have gone back to work, done housework, grocery shopping, made meals for my kids etc.

The only thing I can't do is sleep on my stomach.  It feels weird (no pain, just weird) so I am sleeping my my back and side. I can get my arms over my head easily and with very little pain.  I know that everyone's recovery is different, but mine was fairly easy.  Hence, another reason that I don't have any regrets.

Still waiting to hear Oncotype score, but met with another potential MO who stated that he would have never even ordered Oncotype, and that he wouldn't recommend chemo to me.  I have a close margin to the skin .05mm which is very concerning.  The hospital that I had the surgery done at is reviewing my case tomorrow with a board and they are coming to a decision in a few days regarding radiation.

I had a lumpectomy last July when first diagnosed with PILC. I had surgery 9 days after diagnosis because I couldn't wait to get the cancer out. During chemo and radiation, I had time to fully research my reconstruction options. 1 week ago I had bilateral mastectomies with autologous flap reconstruction in NOLA. My pathology report came back yesterday showing a lot of atypical ductal hyperplasia in my good breast. I had a mammogram, breast ultrasound and breast MRI as pre op testing in July and all were reported as normal. I am so relieved that I went forward with the bilateral mastectomies.

toomuch:  I can hear the relief in your post, sounds like you made a good decision.  In brief, I had a "normal" mammogram (extremely dense breast tissue) and 5 abnormal areas on my MRI (3 fibroadenomas, 1 invasive lobular, and 1 DCIS) - all in the left breast.  I chose bilateral nipple-sparing mastectomies and at surgery more lobular atypia and multiples sites of ADH were found sprinkled throughout the breast tissue; these were not seen on any imaging studies either due to their early nature or denseness of the breast.  The MRI report actually made comment that the tissue was very dense and made interpretation slightly difficult.

Due to having two different forms of cancer and because of the nature of lobular CA I was comfortable with my decision to have a bilateral even before surgery.  The discovery of all the other abnormal areas sealed the deal for me.
