I'm confused.  You seem to be saying that there are two tiny areas of invasive cancer still in your body.  I don't see how they could have determined there were two tiny areas of invasion unless those areas were removed in the lumpectomy.

If the surgical margins are not clear, I'd think they'd be pushing you for a re-excision.  Is that what's happening?

Or are the margins clear and you're just concerned because an area of invasion was found?

I was dx with Intermediate DCIS 25 March. Due to microcalcifications being spread out, opting for mastectomy instead of lumpectomy. Doc said lumpectomy would leave breast mishapen and I'd probably have to do radiation. Possibility of NO radiation with mastectomy. Is that something you're willing to consider?

hello i actually had my second surgery on may 2,2011 was another lumpectomy yes my breast is a little misshaped but i still have it(my breast) i do need radiation no chemo and i am 47 years old and my kids are grown. my fiance' acts like either was fine with him as long as they got the cancer. you have to decide what you are willing to do. in six months i may need to have mastectomy if it comes back and i will cross that bridge when i get to it. my kids are my rock and happy with my decisions i have made. let your family help you decide, and also don't jump into anything my dr was very reassuring to me, if you have second guesses get a second opinion. God Bless and good luck i am here for support. Denise B. Smile

dbis - Good for you, you sound like you are happy with your decisions. It's important to have inner peace (that's my motto). Like you, I have a lumpectomy and then a little surprise idc uncovered. Didn't change my treatment plan but I did undergo any additional surgery to check nodes, and then got the go-ahead to move on to rads. Are you having a sentinel node biopsy?

It's been ~ 500 days since I had my lumpectomy and there hasn't been a single day that I've wished I'd chosen mx or bi-mx instead. We make the best decision with the info we have.
