C25K
Hi all,
well i am on day 2 of my Couch - to 5K (a nine week training program to start running, by the end of the nine weeks one should be comfortable running for 30 minutes)
I had lost 100lbs with lapband and exercise 2 years before my diagnosis, well in the last year i have put on 40, akkk! I had my ubimx and inplant and lift done, and i'm on femara now, so while i can I want this weight off!
I was never a runner, but really want to think about a triathlon in the next 2 years (i dream big). so i am here for some acountability and a partner or more to join me.

I am a HUGE fan of C25K. I started in February, graduated in April, and am about to finish my last week of the Bridge to 10K. My story is that I lost about 60 needed lbs through diet and exercise for about a year and a half before gettinng brave enough to try running. Haven't lost much additional from the running but I am definitely more - about 5lbs lost but all my clothes kind of hang off me better....
I was just dx last week so my runs have been less than enthusiastic (slower pace, not really finding that blissed-out feeling) BUT I am so grateful to have the ability to get out there and sweat some of my worries away.
I don't know if it's OK to post links here not realted to BC but the C25K forum is a wonderful way to post on your progress (let me know if you need the link). My username there is same as here.
I'll be cheering for your every step! I was really encouraged by doc's recommendation that I continue with any physical activity I feel up for. He said it reduces risk of recurrence by 40%

Hi Gigi & Kat.
OMG, I actually discovered my bc because I started running again!
My GF talked me into Bay to Breakers (she is up north), so we started training (separately). About a month in, I hurt my knee and went to my GP to get a scrip for phys therapy. She decided since I turned 40 to just go ahead & do my full annual physical, order mammo even though no physical symptoms on breast exam. And here I am! Just had my lumpectomy 2 weeks ago.
I am really anxious to get back to running. I bought C25K and will use it to get back up to speed as soon as it doesn't hurt (my breasts) to run. GiGi, Congrats on your 2nd day. Keep it up!! I will try to get out there with you as soon as possible. I would be happy to hear about your progress.
I found a great supportive bra, finally!! Wacoal, compression bra. But it does make me feel like I'm having trouble breathing, it's so tight.
My surgeon said I can start exercising at 2 weeks out, but my breast & arm still hurt. Plus I'm so exhausted all the time. I'm getting really impatient. When will the lumpectomy pain REALLY stop?

Hi friends! So glad for this thread.
Kate, I kind of attribute being physically active to helping me find my BC too. Basically, my breasts got smaller in the process (which I wasn't too happy about, but I'm smaller all over so what can you do)... I couldn't help but find it LOL. Hope your pain goes away soon!! Hugs to you
Gigi, if you can do a 5K I promise you you can do the 4-miler. You will be amazed with what your body can do! It's still pretty u.g.l.y. when I run too. I get sweaty along my butt crack, very attractive right? But I'd rather look funny and be healthy I guess! Here's the link: http://c25k.cze.dk and I would also like to recommend a set of podcasts that follow the C25K format, google Running Into Shape.
I'm doing my MRI this morning. Praying (and expecting) for all to go well!

Thanks for asking... I don't know yet... will know more tomorrow (well, later today
can't sleep!). I did get the genetic tests back and am indeed positive for BRCA-1. Don't know how that changes things but I should have alot more to think about soon.
How are your runs going Gigi? And Kate, have you made it out for a run yet?
I "graduated" B210K over the weekend although the last run was incredibly difficult. I think I'm just tired (and have been fighting a cold).. am contemplating taking 5-7 days off just to get it together, ya know? A week from tomorrow I am supposed to run a 3.5-mile race, so I might get one run in between now and then. Complicating all this, my uncle passed away unexpectedly over the weekend so I will be making an 8-hour trip on Friday to attend the funeral on Saturday, then returning late Saturday or Sunday.....
Hope you are both doing OK.
