Hadley - The onc nurse told you what?  To get over it?  What was she thinking?

So glad you are doing better now - what a scare that must have been.  I have not heard of a hot flash that severe.  Hope your onc can figure out what caused it and do something to prevent it from happening in the future.

    Sending hugs out to you.

Hadley, I have had hot flashes so bad with rapid heart rate and feeling like I was going to pass out.  It happens about 1-2 times a day, the rest are not so bad.  My MO just said "sometimes hot flashes can be debilitating."  No suggestions, no help.  I hate worrying about one happening when I am in front of a lecture hall full of 75 students! Ugh. Best wishes and lots of empathy!

    Dear Hadley,

One of my good friends had really bad flashes on T. Her onco told her she wanted her to take Effexor. My friend said, " I'm not depressed" and her onc's response was "I know, but if I told you to take an aspirin for your hot flashes would you do it?"  She of course said yes, and started taking it. My friend said it made a huge difference for her (from changing clothes throughout the day to bearable). Maybe you could try it and if you don't like it just quit? Hope you're feeling better. That goes for everyone.

I too have had problems with hot flashes, itchiness, insomnia, eye floater and weight GAIN with Tamoxifen.  I had a Uterus Biopsy done last week and it was extremely painful.  My Gyno wants to rule out cancer, possibly send me for a D n'C and I might have to have ovaries, or uterus taken out or both ...all because of this supposedly great drug called Tamoxifen...which is supposed to help keep cancer away  but physically upset the other body parts?!

pinkrose:  One SE of tamoxifen is uterine issues...I currently have a fibroid, and am trying to coordinate my GYN with my MO, so that we can manage that SE if it proves to be an issue.  If you GYN is talking abot hyst or surgery on your ovaries (oopherectomy) I would strongly encourage you to get a second opinion.  This would be prophilactic removal of your girl plumbing and not always necessary.  I've heard of a lot of stories where women have complete hyst, and it sound like it's mostly because the docs or the patients, don't want to do maintenance US.  Tammi can increase fibroid size, but it does not necessarily create hyperplasia or uterine cancer.  If you have issues with your ovaries, that is not indicative of Tamoxifen, and is a separate medical issue all together.  Talk with you doc, get them to explain it to you, and then go get a second opinion.  Granted I'm not a fan of cutting out parts that aren't absolutely necessary, so my opinion is skewed.

Jules so glad your daughters report was B9, but glad they are going to keep an eye on her.  And woohoo about your husbands job.  I hope you end up in Austin so we can get together.

pinkrose.  Sorry you are having problems.  I had a hysterectomy many many years ago but kept my ovaries because I was so young.  Never regretting takin the uterous out and am thankful that my Dr. did not remove my ovaries, so now my body and age naturally. I too have had many SE with Tamox but seem to be leveling out.

Hadly wow what a hot flash you had.  Cannot even imagine that.  Glad you got yourself checked out and maybe the MO can help you figure out why it was so bad.

Hadley ~ never had that but it does sound similar to my anxiety attacks.

Pinkrose ~ I still have my parts for now but we will see what my 6 month gyno appt says when I go.  I am due ~

Happy Friday girls !  I am still recovering, just plain old exhausted since surgery last week.

    Thanks Ladies!

Sherry I think we'd have way too much fun if I moved to Austin. Hoping to put a visit in with my DH to see what it is like. Have been to all major cities in TX just not Austin.

My hot flashes are awful. They come on when I least expect them.  It's embarrassing. However, I pull out my giant industrial fan without any hesitation these days.  I'm talking with my OBGYN next week to see what she recommends.  I've tried the Vitamin E and that didn't do anything. Any suggestions?

Ok off to do my 3 mile work so I can walk off my margarita head.

Here's to a good weekend for all of us.

    Hugs all xxxxx

    Jules

Jules we would have a great time and I know some really good margarita places as well.

My hot flashes have started migrating to during the day and not so much as night.  Which I guess is good because I am sleeping better.  I wonder when my body is going to settle down and be boring.

Hey Tink!  So glad you flew in to visit us.  I have not heard of that particular antioxidant and would look it up on the internet and read about it.  Then I would go do drugs.com - tamoxifen drug interactions and see if it is on the list of no-nos.  If it is not, then there should not be a problem.

Hot Flashes - Still have a few - mostly in the evenings - some warm waves during the day but they are not bothering me at night.

So glad this week is finally over.  It was a tough one both physically and emotionally.  Still hurting around the edges at losing my nurse friend.  It still bothers me about that situation since I really can't figure out why she would say something so mean when I know she is really a sweet, caring person - or at least I thought so.

I could use plenty of happy juice tonight.  Any suggestions?

Tink - If you use google, just type in tamoxifen drug interactions.  Once you get the search results, look for drugs.com website.  You will see 256 drugs that interact with tamox.  The list is in alphabetical order and should not be hard to navigate.

There is a starter for each of us.

Tink yes I have heard of Alpha Lipoic Acid.  My Dad's MO put him on it.  I looked it up and I don't know about using if for stress, but the Mayo clinic has done studies and recommens people with neuropathy to take it.  I think that is why the MO put my dad on it being that is is going to go through chemo and it will most likely get worse.  My husband also has nueropothy because of low B12, so I spoke to his neurogolist about it and she said yes for him to take it as well.  She explained that it helps heal the sheath around the nerve endings. We are hoping his nerves will heal themselves, we should know in about 6 months. My MIL also found an article about it regarding neuropathy.  Everything I have read says it is an important amino acid antioxidant, but I have only read it being used for neuropathy nothing on stress, but I sure don't think it would hurt you.  but I would check it out on intereactions website just to make sure.

Thanks Sherry for the info. I actually  called the onc office too and they said it was ok but didnt see ow it was going to help my anxiety.... ugh... thats what I thought too after looking it up. I know the test they took has to do with my nervous system but not sure how that would help. I do have a follow up with my prim care doc Tues and will ask her to explain it better beofre I inrodce anything else to my sysytem...

Jo... I dont know I feel like a lil reckless abandon tonight!! lol

So much information alllll the time....which is a good thing as we can keep informed but a bad thing as it can be overwhelming...

Decided to go and give myself a lift by having my hair trimmed and highlighted...ended up with blonde highlights?!!! Dear god what was I thinking....will get a few opinions befor eI end up back in he chair saying "uh....no thanks!".....but with the curls it is not as noticable...said I did not want to look like someone pulled my hairs out of a highlighter hat....I have a skwed vision of what I look like these days so....I will wait until my pal sees it!

Tink- not reassuring when the dr. doesn't know...have you checked with a naturopath?

Jo- hang in there....this weekend will start a brand new week! Has to be better my dear.

Sandee - I am going to follow in your footsteps and get a new haircut next week.  The gal that cuts my hair lives in my park and does a great job.  She razor cuts it which works great for my hair.  I have silver hair and am just going to leave it alone - no more color for me.  It will be my new beginning.

I am getting a trim on Tuesday and going to color my hair as well.  Going to have the gray foiled to match my natural color.  I don't want blond highlights.  Did that before and ended up pretty light before I realized it. My hair is a light to medium brown.

I've been colouring my hair since my first trim in March.  I'm a red hair and my hair came back sandy blonde. Sooooo not me.
