Herceptin and Pain
My mom just had her first Herceptin yesterday and is in so much pain today. She has to have this every week for a year, is it going to be like this everytime?? I think they gave her more than they normally will yesterday but still?? I'm so worried. Please help.

I don't seem to have any SE from herceptin except for nose bleeds. What kind of pain? Check out this thread: HERCEPTIN - QUICK SIDE EFFECTS POLL
There are women there that are having SE that might be able to tell you more. It's an active thread so you should get some responses. -
Ok I will. Thank you.

Ok, so I dont' think it's from the Herceptin. She did say they gave her like 4X what they normally will give to get her started. I think the pain is from her port that was put in 2 days ago. It's swollen from blood around it. She gets it drained at 1:30 so that should make a big difference. I was so worried b/c I want so badly for her to tolerate Herceptin b/c I read such good things about it from all of you. Her pain in just in her chest area around the port and where the surgery to remove the tumor was so it makes sense that's from the port issue.

Yes I understand. All of us on Herceptin really want to take the full course of the drug. We know it's saving our lives.
Be sure you mom lets her doctors know there is an issue and she's having pain. The doctors can't help her if they don't know. She should not be in a lot of pain. Wish your mom good luck from me with her battle.

I have quite a bit of joint and bone pain after each Herceptin treatement for the first week and a half out of the three week cycle.

Thank you, Lago,
We did and she's going in at 1:30 to get the area around the port drained AND they are going to check it regularly so this should be a problem again! Thank you so very much for responding and good luck to you as well!!!

NHsmiles, I didnt' see your post til now. Mom's on weekly Herceptin so I wonder if she'll have the same experience. On a 1-10 scale how bad would you rate your bone and joint pain?
-
It's about a 9 at times.
I try to keep moving as I get very stiff when I sit for a period of time.

Oh you poor thing!
-
NHsmiles - are you taking AI or tamox too?
-
NHsmiles, I have considerable joint pain after herceptin too. I think it is worst the first week to ten days after, but doesn't ever go away. At times mine is also 9/10 on pain scale. For a while I thought it was just me.

Me too....much the same as Christine. It doesn't seem to go away and sometimes it gets exhausting just always feeling pain to some extent.
