***How's the weather, on your neck of the woods?!***

mid-90's hot humid and a svere thunderstorm watch til 6pm ........Ready for November!.......
-
We've got rain, rain and more rain. Truly depressing, although I was down the cape (Cod) from Sunday to Wednesday and the sun did come out from Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday. It is a little warmer - low seventies but with 100% humidity, it's not very comfortable. Sorry for all the severe weather folks are having - if a tornado were coming, I would not have any idea what to do.
-
Please send a little rain our way!
It is winter here but still very very little rain after an extremely hot summer. Our dam levels have never been this low before.
As for a tornedo...yikes that would be terrifying!
Hugs to all of you preparing for rough weather.

Dearest Jezza... may all this rain go your way... b/c I have had it! I was able to cut the grass on the front of the house, doubt that tomorrow I can make it to the back since we are having... MORE RAIN! %$$#@!@!@^!!!!!!
Talking about tornado... last Sunday we drove through the MA area that got hit w/ a Tornado or something b/c all trees were laying down and/or cracked in half, hundreds of them.

SNOW AND SLEET ALL DAY TODAY WITH MORE EXPECTED TOMORROW!
Sheila
-
Sheila, we east coasters are gonna be blasted, big time. All the stations here say 8 to 15 inches. So far, it is only cloudy and cold, but they say this could be a record storm.
-
You know winter in southern california...days in the 70s and nights in the 50s...sun shining
-
The weather man had it pretty accurate, they said that we would start seeing snow/sleet around 9:00 am, it started at 8:30 and has been on again and off again with my car window completly covered at this time. The weather men are saying that my area will get 4-6 inches by Saturday, the stuff coming down now is a mix of snow, sleet and rain. temps are hovering around 33. My boss gave me the go-ahead when he left at 11 (usual time for him on Friday) that if I didn't feel comfortable staying all day to go home
. I am going home for lunch and not returning
.

Ok, when it comes to talking about the weather, we Canadians consider it a national passtime...lol
I live in Edmonton Alberta where it is a -3 celsius today (feels balmy) but the weather last weekend was unbelievable. We broke a record -46 C (-50 F) feeling like -58C with the windchill.
Sunday morning, the city of Edmonton was declared the second coldest place on Earth. A place in Siberia was slightly colder.
-
Pickle, how in the world do you keep warm? BRRR, I like cold weather, but your weather is beyond cold! Our Canadian friends must be much tougher than we are in the US!
In our big snow storm here in the western North Carolina mountains, we ended up with 15 inches of snow and everything is pretty much shut down, with lots of power outtages in the region. Not sure how we've been so lucky at our house, but we're still on the grid. Stay warm, everyone!
-
We ended up with 10 inches at my house Saturday morning, my car hasn't moved since I came home Friday afternoon. It isn't so much the main roads but my driveway that I don't like to venture on when it is snowy.

I measured 20 inches of snow in a little less than 24 hours here in northern Virginia, across the river from Washington, DC. The sun came out today and the melting has started. My young, male (and handsome) neighbor shoveled my driveway and we had never met before. I am in an apartment complex with attached private garages. I opened the garage door to see how bad it was and he was almost finished. Otherwise I would have never known who did it.
The snow removal team at this complex does not have snow shovels, so they were using one foot wide garden shovels. There are 19 buildings and over 400 apartments.... All the sidewalks have a one foot wide path, which is better than nothing, I guess. It was a major storm, state wide emergency declared and they asked that no one go on the roads except medical, fire and police or get a $250 fine if a 4 wheel drive vehicle or $ 500 fine if not. All 3 airports were closed.
A white Christmas is nice, but by Friday it will probably be ugly, dirty, slushy and oh well, it is winter officially tomorrow. Keep warm and safe, Hugs, Nancy
-
Very cold here - 17 degrees with 15 mph winds. I think the wind chill is 2 degrees. Last night the wind chill was minus 12. Keep warm everyone.
-
cold here this morning, temp at my house was 18 degrees at 6:00 am. had bad winds last night.

The weather here is crazy, the average high for today is 50 and average low is 30. we started out again this morning at 18 and expect to get to 30 for the high. This has been going on for almost a week. They are also calling for snow tomorrow with accumulation in the higher elevations, where I am at it is hard to say if we will get any accumulation or not, I am on the boundry line between accumulation and flurries only.

Sheila, you are probably in an area like I am where people have no idea what "real snow and winter" is like. Although snow is not unusual, they go about with blinders on and are amazed when it happens. Admittedly, 20 inches is a STORM and it was a novelty for many to get out and make snow balls and trudge around in it.
I recall my childhood when we made snow forts by digging OUT snow piles, not piling the snow up - there was that much snow. You never saw the ground from Halloween till Easter and some Easters there was snowfall. Forget those pretty easter bonnets and new spring clothes...
A friend from England told me that we, Americans, talk more about the weather than anything else. "They" gossip about people, and have the Royal Family to thank for a lot of input. Get out the long johns, bundle up, make a pot of stew or soup and keep warm. Nancy

Nancy, I grew up in north western Ohio - Dayton area (move to NC when I was 15) so I know what heavy snow is. Here when the weather man calls for the least bit of snow, people panic. they run to the store for bread and milk, schools let out almost at the sight of the first flake. When I was in High school, it started snowing heavily at 10:00 am, they let school out at noon with snow covered roads, by 3:00 the roads were clear. if they had left school in session, we could have come home on clear roads instead of slippery ones.
the weather man said that this is the longest cold snap in 25 yrs.

Sheila, when snow is forecast, many workers have the option NOT to go in to work. I forget what they call it. The first snowfall after I moved here, everyone was stocking up at the grocery store and worried. A total of 2 inches fell and (like you) we did not even get out our boots for 2 inches...

Wow... more than a year has lapsed since anyone of us updated this thread... so, here's my weather so far this week on my neck of the woods...
Monday... can 't remember!
Tuesday... some light rain in the am, but finally that beautiful sun came through
and I did some very needed gardening... now I need a nice manicure.
Wednesday/today... started okay... got hot and stuffy
for an April day and now it's raining... in addition, I heard that cold weather is going to make it's return! Man... did it ever go away????
I know some of my sisters here have experienced really bad weather, tornadoes and all kinds of hell... hope all of you are doing just fine and hanging in there.
-
Just wanted to send an ginormous hug to Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee, Georgia, Virginia and Kentucky states.
Just watched a video and saw pictures of the devastation which made me extremely sad. I am so very sorry for your losses.
When possible, please don't hesitate to reach out to us here.

Holy cow... a tornado touched down in downtown Springfield about 35 minutes ago w/ some serious damage to buildings, trees, electrical posts. No human or animal losses reported. It came across from W. Springfield over the CT River and into downtown Springfield! Wow!
-
Naughty!
Tornadoes in the Northeast are NOT typical! This Spring has just been CRAZY everywhere!!!
We've been HOT here in Upstate NY for the last few days! Not complaining though because we went through that reallt horrid spell a couple weeks back!
Hope everyone is OK up your way!
-
Said it on another thread.................Pa. around the Phily area is on a Tornado watch....................Hold on Toto......................
-
OMG... it continues... my daughter's HS got hit HARD
(... no awards for Seniors tonight or graduation on Friday ;o(. Kids were trapped in the school... BUT THEY ARE ALL FINE. Another tornado watch until 8:00 PM tonight....
My street is a crazy musical of sirens going up and down... traffic lights are out so is the electricity in lots of areas... and traffic is crazy.
It's now known that there were several tornadoes... not strong as AL and others states... but still serious. One house reported leveled... but not confirmed.
-
OH, Naughty!!!! How AWFUL!!
Please know that you and your fellow Springfield residents are in my thoughts and prayers tonight!! Wow, this Spring HAS to be one for the record books with all of the violent storms!!
Edited to add: Thank goodness none of those children were hurt! While it's hard, for sure, things can be replaced... People can not be!
-
ducky!
Hoping for safety for you and all of our sisters down in the Philly area!
Strangely, we had some pretty nasty storms come through Sunday night (the kind that the thunder shakes your windows) but, the last couple of days, while HOT have been calm! Hoping it's not the calm before the storm!!
-
SeasideMemories... glad to hear that none of this non sense is up your way; no schools for tomorrow issued already by the Governor. State of Emergency issued. Two tornados touched down!!
26,000 people w/o power. Three severe lighting and rain storms... Boston areas are bracing for two, 2, tornados! WTF?????
-
Kansas is also in my thougths as I know the weather channel just advised about two tornados touched down there. So sorry :O(
Also my thoughts are w/ CA people... tornadoes watch too!
FEMA is already in Springfield, MA... parts of downtown is not looking too good. Damage upgraded to some fatalities :O(
-
So far Philly dodged the bad storms and tornado...................some got strong storms in another part of Pa., but we escaped it............at least something good happened today. Hoping for a better tomorrow
-
Springfield downtown... thank God no where near me.
Some of the following pictures are within a mile from where I live... my area was untouched!!!
