Hello All,

What should I expect with my first oncology visit.  Still healing from 2nd surgery and waiting for path report.  I guess we talk about different treatment? Surgeon doesn't think I need chemo just radiation.  This is the time we talk about things like that - and what other labs I need???

    Hello Grammie,

You got it!  They'll discuss treatment options, how many, for how long, give you some interesting (not) literature and weigh the pros and cons of rads alone vs. rads plus chemo or anything else they might be thinking of for you. It's like a meet and greet.  You may meet your tech who will do your daily dose, where to get coffee, what time of day you want, all that sort of thing. Then you go home and let them know what you've decided.  Easy peasy!

I would make sure to review what you know about your pathology and ask any questions of anything you don't understand.  Discuss all the options.  Take notes.  Make a list of questions before you go.  They may also discuss tamoxifen if you won't need chemo.

If you haven't had a OncoDX test, you might want to talk to them about getting one.  It saved me from chemo!
