Severe neck pain and headache

Options

I have been having severe neck pain and headaches for over a week.  I know that this area is subject to tension headdaches, but this is starting to scare me.  If it is a bone met in the cervical neck area would it abate and return or would it be constantly painful?  I can't get in to see my doctor for at least 6 more weeks.

Sounds like it could be a sinus infection.  Allergy season has been a beast this year.  Don't worry too much.  Can you get in sooner to ease your mind?

Sinus infection or allergies could definitely be the the cause like amoccia53160 said, and I agree - call your doctor or oncologist and try to get in sooner than 6 weeks.  Is there an oncology nurse that you can call to discuss this with?  Sometimes that helps in getting an earlier appointment, or see an internist if your oncologist is truly not available.  Sinus infections can be hard to get rid of without antibiotics if it is bacterial.

What did you find out please? I hope to hear from you soon. I have been dealing with neck pain and severe headaches for a couple of months now and continue to be brushed off.

I haven't found out anything yet.  The pain got better, but is back now, in a big way.  I think this might be something because I never have such pain and have enjoyed such good physical health despite having triple negative bc.

I can't reach my doctor's office until Monday.  I will post as soon as I learn something.

    Hi MsBliss,

I was wondering what your doctor said about your neck pain and headaches.

I get headaches and neck pain constantly and my sports massage therapist used to work on my neck for me and it would return to feeling great again if I kept up my appointments every two weeks.  However, I'm not able to return to the massage until I get the doctor's okay because they don't like to see BC patients having massages because of the risk of spreading the cancer.

I'll let you know if I learn anything new from my docs but I know when I can return to the  massage I will start to feel good again.

I'm still waiting for results from my bone scan and am having a CT scan tomorrow so if all is normal there I'm anticipating I'll be allowed to return to massage.  I'm hopeful and will let you know.

I never heard that about massages possibly spreading breast cancer. I know that they help the lymph fluid flow.

MsBliss - I just had an MRI for persistent neck pain that was (is) starting to give me headaches.  I am also TN, so I scan for every little thing at the moment.  It ended up being degenerative changes.  Also, my doctor thinks it is because I am adjusting to the weight "loss" from my mastectomy.

I did around the clock Motrin for a few days, which helped, and I use a heated rice sock several times a day.  It is still stiff and sore, but easing a bit, and at least I know it isn't the cancer.

I hope you get some answers soon!

    MsBliss,

I don't know how you feel about chiropractic, but I see my chiropracter about every two weeks and that keeps me "in line".  I can usually tell when it is time to go in because I start getting headaches.  I've had some pretty bad ones lately, and I attribute mine to allergies.  Hope you get some answers and relief soon!
