I had surgery Aug05 for bc recurrance. B4 surgery I had 33 IMRT rads, prior to that had 4A/C & 4 Taxol. I had bc in 2000 & had 37 rads in same general area. Now, my surgery won't heal. Wound doc says there is adema or something on my sternum (shown on recent MRI). My wound has been draining since it broke open in Sept. Drainage was clear, yellowish & some blood. Now, drainage is milky. some healing is taking place, but Wound Doc says healing may stall cause rads are the gift that keeps on giving. Anyone else been here? trudann

Am I understanding you correctly? Did you have radiation in 2000 and then again 2005? I've had a similar problem with lumpectomy and radiation in 1997. The recurrence was in August 2005. They recommended spot radiation but I decided the risks where not worth the improvement in odds. After explaining all this my oncologist agreed and I'm now taking tamoxifen.

I have always been afraid of that radiation and am sorry that you are having so much trouble. My second surgery healed nicely and is gone because I had plastic surgery to repair the symmetry and they took out that scar and softened the original. Yippee! The plastic surgeon says its healing beautifully. I wound up at the plastic surgeon because of the radiologist who thought I should have a consult before starting radiation a second time. Well I decided to pass even before the consult.

Good luck, I hope the healing process has started.
