NJDevchic, everything your surgeon says makes sense.  This is reassuring.  It will be great to have that lump out of there and get all the answers.  Sounds like you are in good hands.

Glad you got to talk to your dr & get some much needed answers.  To answer your question, yeah...if I had a pain in my big toe I thought it was cancer and not much has changed and probably never will.  We all having feelings of paranoia with a cancer dx, we just pay attention to our bodies more carefully.  For me the fear of will it come back is the hardest part, I could have dealt with chemo and all the tx if I could know it will be over but it will never be.  I'm still a newbie though and have heard it does :)

Thanks to all...I am home from surgery....doctor said it was "routine and uneventful" to my husband afterwards and they would know the results next week.  So for now I am still cancer free and enjoying Easter and celebrating my son's birthday and going to ignore my aches and pains.

Thanks Jenny...I'm encouraged by the routine and uneventful...makes me realize the lump probably wasn't attached to the muscle or it would have caused complications...who knows all these "pains" I have been feeling for a few weeks could be worse because I am poking and prodding at them nostop instead of letting them heal...probably things under normal circumstances I would assume are nothing by me getting older...a little uncomfortable right now in the breast...but if this ends up being benign  then that is the least of my worries...

Thank You Elm...tomorrow we are going to celebrate my son's birthday early since we are all home and I am getting the test results the day before his actual birthday 4/27...I want to be in a good "cancer free" state of mind...who knows maybe it will be nothing and we can celebrate again that day! :)  trying to keep a positive attitude now and appreciating every day I get to spend with my kids as the blessing that it is.

I was able to feel my breast today and the lump is still there....now I am in a very dark place fearing the worst...if it was nothing wouldn't have they been able to remove it completely?  Now I know in my mind it probably is attached to the muscle and that is why it is still there. :(

My lump was below my armpit and very large and hurt when I touched it.It was a soft mass not hard. I had chemo first before surgery and after chemo I coyuldnot even feel it anymore.Just don't panic and try and enjoy the day with your son.

Spoke with the BS's nurse...said the mass was removed completely...and also said if it is cancer then I will get a call on Monday before my actual appointment...I asked if they only call with bad news and she said "generally yes"  I have felt so off for awhile now....I don't know if you would describe it as dizzy...but more like shaky....my neck is tight....and pins and needles for awhile now (weeks)  don't know if this is related to anxiety or something bad :(  I can't even think straight...I feel like I am in a fog.

    NJDevChick,

I could have written your posts!  The waiting and worrying is just excruciating, and I think most of us relate all too well with what you're going through!   "Routine and uneventful!" is what we're hoping for you - boring is FABULOUS ;-D

Please try to distract yourself this weekend?  Try to immerse yourself in Easter celebrations and birthday celebrations.  It's impossible to stay consistently calm and think positive, and all the other things people  say with the best intentions, so I say just try to go easy on yourself. Feel the fear, and then move on to coloring Easter eggs or taking your son for a special Mom-Son treat or a walk or something.

Hang in there!  We're all sending lots of benign, uneventful results for  Monday!!!

So today is the day.  If I get a call from the Breast Surgeon it means I have cancer...if I don't get a call "no news is good news" I take it...he ONLY calls with bad news.  I don't know how I am going to get through the day....I KNOW if this is cancer it explains the other things I have been feeling and I am probably stage IV :(

Now, you don't know that until you do more test so, stop talking like that.  We're here waiting with you no matter what they say, so let us know.

I found my orig tumor during a self exam.  It was a hard "pea" that could be felt at the top side of my breast.  They originally ordered a diagnostic mammo and ultrasound.  The diag mammo couldn't see the lump despite being able to palpate or feel it so they did the ultrasound right away and could see it that way.  They radiologist told me that he was fairly certain it was benign because it was smooth sided and he could use a pencil to draw the whole thing.  But they did send me for a biopsy because was a small little "spike" on one side.  Long story short - after biopsy everyone (including BS) told me they were 85% sure it was benign.  It was cancer.  They then ordered an MRI.  The MRI was more effective at finding area's of concern for me because my breasts were so dense.  I ended up with 20 tumors in the right breast alone.  The one I found was 1.7 cm.  The actual largest one was 2.2 cm and I couldn't feel it.

Sorry for popping in here so late. He only calls if it's bad news! That's bull. Call tomorrow. I mean it does sound good that you got no call but you have the right to know one way or the other. How much did that procedure cost? I think they can pick up the phone and call!
