New gene technology can cause breast cancer to self destruct , pioneered by scientists at Queen's university of Belfast .This is a first , an innovative gene transport system which the gene directly into the breast cancer cells causing them to self destruct without damaging the surrouning healthy tissue. This new technology DBV Designer biomimeticvector consists of nano particles inwhich the gene is packed into.

In the past said Dr.Mc Carthy ' the big challenge had been the lack of an effevtive delivery system . With the new nano particle technology this challenge has now been overcome and gives hope to women around the world.. In the long term said Dr. Mc Carthy ' I see this being used to treat people with mestatic breast cancer that has spread to the bones, ideally administered before radiotherapy or chemotherapy.' The iNOS gene forces breast cancer cells to produce poisonous nitric oxide , either by killing them outright, or making them more vulnerable to being destroyed by chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Experts have said that it wouuld overcome many of the toxic side effects of current treatment.

Belfast universityinvestigation is needed, but this new technology would be trialled in as little as 5 years. Dr. Mc Carthy said' the next step is to turn nao particles into a dried powder that culd be easily transported and reconstituted before being given to patients.
