Waiting to have biopsy

Options

Ten years ago, in April of 2001, I was diagnosed with  Stage I invasive DCIS in right breast.  I had a lumpectomy followed by 7 weeks of radiation,  3 years of Tamoxifen and 2 years of Aromasin - no chemo.  I was er/pr positive and Her-2 negative.  Eight lymph nodes removed - all negative.

Just recently I went for my annual mammography and ultrasound (dense breasts).  At the same time, I was told by the radiologist that I have a nodule which looks suspicious and I need a biopsy.  Met with my oncologist, who received the report.  He told me that I had a Bi-Rad reading of 4C which is highly suspicious of cancer.  For years I had a lump  where the incision was made, and was informed that it was scar tissue, but now it appears that the lump has increased in size.    My biopsy is scheduled in two weeks.

This is a great Board.   Thanks for the opportunity to vent.

  C.

Cheryl- that just sucks and here is another wish for the B9-big hugs and support to you from Texas...here is hoping it is just scar tissue

i had very dense breasts before BC and the 5mm tumor was spotted by an incredible gifted radiologist reading my last mammogram in Oct 2010.

    Hi again,

Just an update.   I wanted to thank all those who sent their good wishes and prayers.

I had my  ultrasound guided core needle biopsy on April 27 after receiving a BI-RAD rating of 4C - highly suspicious for cancer. The final pathology diagnosis was:

-No malignant cells identified  -  (YEAH)Smile

    -Amorphous Debris

-Occasional Macrophages and Scattered Neutrophils Present

-Cell Block shows mixed ductal active chronic inflammatory cells and debris

    -Immunostain of Cytokeratin is negative.

I am not sure what macrophages, neutrophils and ductal active chronic inflammatory cells, etc.  represent, but will definitely find out.

A physician assistant called me with the news and I requested that he FAX me the report; he said I must come back in three months to be retested, but for now, I got my B9.

    Blessings and Hugs to all

I have a simular background as you. In 2005 I was diagnosed with IBC in my left breast, had a lumpectomy and 7 nodes removed, all 7 negative, followed by radiation, tomaxifin and aromasin.

Two months ago I noticed some thickening of breast tissue in my breast and decided to watch it for awhile. Last week I noticed and indention at the area I was feeling the thickening. I called my Onc and he set up a mammo. Had it yesterday and the radiologist did a preliminary report saying there were some suspiscious areas. My onc recommended setting up a biopsy with the surgeon. Waiting on that now. He said it could possibly be scar tissue causing the indention and inflamation from the radiation.

I've been off aromasin for 8 months now. Did your doctor say anything about removing the scar tissue to keep from having to go through this over and over?

Praise the Lord for your B9! That is what I am hoping for, but I am considering going on with reconstructive surgery with the removal of all the scar tissue.

After 5 years, I was hoping to be through with all this. Guess I'm just wondering if anyone else has had issues with this.

    Prayers from Texas,

     Laurie

Cheryl,  Hope the biopsy is negative.  You are fortunate to have been watching this so carefully and are ahead of the game.  Let us know.  Amen on having an MRI for dense breasts as a rule.  That would have saved me!
