Sunny now....but still too cold for me. I have not yet retired my winter coat, scarf, earmuffs and gloves for the season because it's still too cold and windy for me to go outside and not wear them. MAYBE next week I can switch to just the jean jacket and "little" scarf, IF Unisys Weather's and Weather Underground's extended forecasts turn out to be true (hitting the 60s).

Woohoo-peepers peeping last night, and very green grass in the yard after the rain.

We still have quite a bit of snow in our yard BUT there is more and more grass (and mud) showing every day. Spring has arrived!

I heard peepers for the first time tonight. Road construction has resumed on I-295 so it really is Spring.

OMG first gorgeous day here this year was YESTERDAY. True, it was raw 40s-raining when I left the house and drove up to Dartmouth for my doc appointments, but when I got out it was NIIIICE! Like, my T-shirt was enough; didn't need the jean jacket with scarf OR flannel shirt! And it stayed that way all the rest of the day and even into the evening.

Today was almost as nice as yesterday (only in that today seemed a little cooler -- dunno if it was cause of chilly temperature, or OK temperature but wind making it feel chilly). Was too busy today with, can't believe THIS...

SPRING CLEANING (whole house top to bottom -- uh yeah, with help or I'd have ended up dead or in traction). Hey, it's only just barely beginning to feel like spring, but if I didn't do it this week or next, it probably wouldn't get done till SUMMER.

So I didn't really go out today, unless you consider putting stuff temporarily out on the deck while you clean stuff in the house, or chatting on the deck for a few minutes with your Pack Rat's cousin's wife, or taking out the garbage, to be "going out." But I DID open the windows for a couple hours. All of them. :-D

Tomorrow I do have to go out, though -- need to go to the bank and then pick up the prescription of Ativan I'm supposed to bring to my biopsy next Thursday. But, the bank and Rite Aid are both walking distance, so if it's nice out, I'll run those errands on foot. If not and I end up deciding to drive, maybe I'll throw in a trip to "Odd Jobs" and pick up some of the stuff on THAT list.

Well I didn't notice them, but my Pack Rat's cousin's wife said she saw what was going to be tulips coming up in right in front of my house and I had never noticed them till she showed me. So I guess it really IS spring....

    FINALLY!!!!!

Nicole-haha-I ran into that roadwork the other day-so true!

Lena-it does seem time to spring clean, doesn't it? My walls and windows seem grimy, so I'm going to work on them today. Keeping the floors clean is a job because of our dog...we'll see how far I get . Hope you were able to walk to your errands.

The Dairy Queen has been open since early March, but yesterday was the first day it was warm enough to enjoy something, so I had a Hawaiian blizzard! Not on the anticancer diet, I know, but it was good...

The DQ nearest to me is open too but sadly I gave up ice cream for Lent. Poor plan with free cone day yesterday at Ben + Jerry's. Ice cream is my fav indulgence. Ice cream is good for the soul. Smile

    Hello Ladies of the North,

I thought we had left the horrible weather behind, but here we are growing mold and wearing jackets. WTH?? I planted some veggies anyway-hope they make it. How is everyone holding up?

Last week I found the grey weather and on-off rain to be dismal and depressing because I had to go out running errands in it. NOW, though, it's OK: I can stay in and not feel like I'm missing anything being "stuck" in the house like I would if the weather was nice. The crummy weather gives me ANOTHER excuse (other than vanity -- in addition to the obvious flat chested, I look "pregnant with drains") to stay in. I just had a BMX on Friday and don't look right/can't dress like I want to yet till I heal more. So for now I can deal with the crappy weather. It was a pain last week because I had to run around doing laundry and shopping in advance since I won't be able to do any of that "physical stuff" for awhile yet. Yeah, I got all done in time. Soooo......Let it rain, let it rain, let it rain...this week anyway.

Doing okay here. Last week it got to me a bit and I was down in the dumps. I am so sick of the mud! It went away, but now it's back with a vengeance. But this week, I figure I've got time stay home and let my hair grow back. Tongue out  I'm taking advantage and doing lots of neglected inside chores. I hadn't been up to cleaning since back in October and it shows! We also planted some veggies and hope they make it. I just checked the weather and we're due for a full sunny day a week from this coming Wednesday. I'll finally get to wear my new sunglasses! Cool

Lena, sorry you're going through that. But at least the weather isn't taunting you when you can't really go out and enjoy it. Take care of yourself.

Hi Lena-sending healing thoughts your way-glad you're not missing any sun. I  hope your healing is quick! I liked the camisoles that I could put lightweight breast forms in-I had a bmx in August 08.

Sandymess-congrats on your hair! Your pic looks great-it's a chic look! I got hired a few months out of chemo, and when I interviewed my hair was an inch long. Later I told them I had chemo, and they never guessed.

We holed up all winter-guess we can make it through another week...

Well how do you like THIS -- spring has finally arrived in New Hampshire. (uhhh should I shut my mouth before I jinx it?)

And today was one of those days which would be "a sin to stay in the house" -- would definitely have gone out for a walk today if I hadn't recently been dissected (I get tired easy too), so, I sat out on the upstairs porch most of the day and got to enjoy the weather anyway -- minus the bugs!

LOL my landlady mowed the lawn today. I wish she hadn't gotten rid of the dandelions. Another out-on-the-porch day, except for the afternoon nap.

(I wonder if I could even get UP on a horse...)

Hey Lena, glad you are enjoying your porch. We all have porches in our bungalow neighborhood and I would love to see more people using them. Hope you are healing well-how are you doing?

Nicole-what a wonderful day for a horseback ride, with the trees just leafing out! We are looking at a farm tomorrow-it has a huge barn. I guess we could put our dog in there LOL

Yeah, cath, I love the porch (I'm out on it now and it's 11:30 PM!), even though it still has to be painted. Yup, that (and some decorating) are in the works.

Ummmm actually, cath, I'm more itchy than anything else right now; pain pills and naps/being lazy are still my primary activities (along with web surfing with my iBook on the porch). But I would give anything to have these drains out, all this frickin tape off me, so I could take a freakin shower already. I'm too scared to shower until the drains are out and those drain wounds can be bandaged TOTALLY shut till they actually HEAL -- open incisions on MY body scare the living crap out of me. Well at least I am getting close to the "both with less than 30 cc" goal; one had 18 but the other had 35. So maybe in the next couple of days I can have them out.

    ::::sigh::::

The drains! Right Lena, they were the worst. Hope they gave you some of those solvent pads to get the sticky stuff from the tape off. I remember they said to shower with my back to the spray. will def be better with the drains out!

Oh, I hate that tape, Lena. I did not have a mastectomy but I am allergic to so much of that crap...  dermabond, the pain meds, blah, blah, blah ... I do hope you feel better soon, my dear. And don't forget to duck with these freaky storms. I'm all alone tonight. At one point, my dogs and one of my cats went with me to 'read' in the basement bedroom. Embarassed

Hi ladies - I saw this thread tonight and felt instantly homesick.  I was married and had my babies in Maine but grew up in Boston.  We lived in Boothbay, Brunswick, and Portland.  My DS went to college at Bowdoin all the way from Seattle.  I often think if I had experienced my cancer at "home", that I would feel more comfortable even though I have been gone for 25 years - Maine and Mass are my home.....no matter your weather, know that I am jealous.

Hi Raincitygirl! We live close to Portland-my son will be a jr. in high school next year and will apply to Bowdoin when the time comes. Do you make it back to NE at all? what has your spring been like in the NWest?

cathmg - I do come back at times but never in the winter :)  We have had a lousy spring - wet and cold.  My son had a great education there but I think he is really too west coast (read that as not preppy enough) for Bowdoin.  Doesn't matter, he ended up with a great job though nobody on the west coast has ever heard of Bowdoin.....I should be there in the summer as it is my high school reunion....

OMG gorgeous yesterday and today! All windows open in the house, sunshine and fresh air! Beautiful out on both the deck and the porch. And it finally got warm enough to put Solfegietto (my diffenbachia) on the porch.

Surprise surprise -- got my drains out and that awful tape off late Friday afternoon; I'm back to taking showers again. Between yesterday and today, I planted most of my container garden (all except the cherry tomatoes, which I'll do in two weeks). Still need pain medication, but not the Percocet anymore; I take Tramadol or Advil now. Hope to not need those soon too.

We ARE all reveling in this lovely weather, aren't we?

Bravo Lena-you must feel like a new woman! And planting is good for the soul, isn't it? Maybe the activity is helping you get your range of motion back?

The GREEN is spectacular. Lots of nesting birds around here, too.

Er hang on a moment there Cath, I think feeling like a "new woman" is a gross exaggeration! LOL. I just feel better now than I did originally is all. The recovery is actually pretty gradual -- a little bit better each day, nothing dramatic.

I love the green too, though. And the warm weather holding as well.  :-) I walked to the pharmacy to renew my Wellbutrin today (and watered the containers); other than that I'm still lazy. I can't seem to get up the motivation to clean the house yet even though looking at it is starting to bother me a little.

Lena, don't worry about your house. The mess will certainly be there when you are ready!

I actually did some Spring cleaning last week and made some curtains and pillow covers. We had company for the weekend and yesterday I crashed! I went for a DEXA scan to get ready for the AI I will be taking and afterward I could feel the energy draining--like I hit a wall. Came home and snoozed on the couch all day long, then went to bed at 8:30 and slept for almost 12 hours! Thunderstorms today. Hopefully I'll get some energy because I need to do some sewing for my business. Undecided

Sandymess, you think your energy is drained NOW? Just wait till you take an AI. Well, they certainly disagreed with me (Femara, Aromasin AND Arimidex), almost as bad as chemo. They made me feel 90 years old, not including the aching joints, feet and hands, and the depression which medication was only partly able to fix. If you're intent on taking any of that stuff, get your sewing done quick before it's too late!

No tornadoes or severe thunderstorms for us yesterday (just threats) but definitely a weather change for today. Cooler, cloudy and windy. I did my first post-BMX laundry.

Really, Lena? Yuck, don't like the sound of that! I haven't started taking it yet because I've got a cold and it's making me dizzy and spacey. I want to start the AI when I'm feeling pretty good, so I can see for sure about any SEs.

What a bee-autiful day we've had today. I'd love it if the weather stayed like this all the time! Laughing
