I cannot tell you how happy I am to hear that....have pretty much had nothing but warnings so far and stories of how it is not a good dog to take on as a pet. The boy next door, maybe he's 14,15 is a really nice kid, polite and friendly and he is just so happy to finally have a dog and I would hate to think of it coming to a bad end.  His main problem now is he says the dog poops a lot...in his cage even.  I can't be much help with this as I only housebroke one dog on my own and think until he got really old accidents inside were not much of an issue,( although I do recall when he was young he used to eat his own feces and that drove me crazy, but finally I got some stuff to put in his food and that stopped that bad habit) but Tim's dog who Tim raised on his own is definitely not housebroken, a fact I am not at all happy with, and Harley and Hope belonged to someone else before we got them and they only go outside.  I think maybe the cage is too large and that is the problem.

Maybe start with a smaller cage, til he gets the idea, with such a big cage (which he's going to need), he still feels he isn't pooping where he lives.  I always had rescues, so did not have to housebreak.  Except for my Lab who had separation anxiety, had to come up with a variety of programs for him.  He was such a happy dog though, it was worth it.  Karen

I can just picture your little man squeeling on himself with the big smile and his tail between his legs!  Cowboy used to live in Pittsburg, a really lovely bike trail ran thru the backs of everyone's backyard.  Well, Cowboy heard some kids playing and laughing so he went galoping down to join in the play.  Of course he was excited and smiling away, the kids started screaming, thought he was snarling and the police brought him home in the back seat of their squad car, which was fine with Cowboy cause he loves rides.  My cousin got hit with a fine, but it was hysterical to see Cowboy arriving in the police car. And it makes for a great story.  Karen

Not at all...just have not had any new pet stories or pics to post lately, but am sure they will be getting into something soon. Right now they are all sleeping.....this must be what they do all day when I am at work.  George is shedding like mad....must be that time of year.

OK, since I am posting pics today, here is a pet pic....forgive me if it's a repeat.  All is quiet on the home front....I took Harley and Hope for walks this morning, one at a time and then took Brattie out in the back...they all know to go outside and want to go outside instead of getting yelled out for going in the house, Tim is just too lazy to take them.

My older dogs and cats were constant companions till the day I was done with chemo, after they did not take turns to stay by my side, now they are gone to pet heaven, after all I was diagnosed in 1993.

But a month ago I had Mohs surgery in my face for basal cell carcinoma, that by the way I never  tan or do as little as possible outside, I am an indoors person.

My Shi-Tzu would not leave my side,he was very careful around me, staring at the bandage on my face, sitting on my lap; I was, I am in shock at my scar and he is the best therapy.

Just back from a trip to Pa., we needed to pack my godmother's belongings.  Having Cowboy, the dog and Bibbies, the cat, around was a nice distraction.  Cowboy gave me his happy smile, the one where he looks like he is snarling, just smiles, and wiggles.  I hadn't seen him in a month, and he was just beside himself.  Bubbies waited till I sat in his mom's place on the couch, then trotted over and sprawled himself over my leg, turned over and offered his belly for a good tummy rub.  Sam says he is still looking for her, walking in her bedroom and out.  They understand so much without using words, but Sam explains it to both pets. Glad to be back with my 2 cats, Emma and Sophie, Sophie gave me the cold shoulder for a bit but now is sitting between me and the computer, making it ever so much fun.  Karen  welcome dreaming, sounds like your guys are very intuitive also, what are their names?

Barbara, they are like children aren't they, when I am on the computer, Sophie is in front of the keyboard, so I type around her.  When I am on the phone, she is in desparate need of a good petting, she keeps rubbing her face on mine till I have to stand up to talk.  It's obvious i am not a good disaplenarian (SP?).   Karen

I'm so happy to see a happy bc survivor on this board. I'm a 12 year survivor and am also an Ohio native, but now live in Georgia. I love my long-haired chihua puppy and she gives me lots of laughs and fun.

Dear Nanamims, I can't imagine living in a petless home.  We get a continual companion, unconditional love, occasional pain in the patootie, Laughs, and continual challenges - like typing with one hand reaching around Sophie.  Would not want to disturb her as she watches out the window, there is a robin she has her eye on.  She's making little clicking noises , that's her version of a growl.  What is your baby's name?  Nice to have you join us, I'm on line each day and check my favorite threads.  Karen

Karen, George makes that sound also when he sees birds out the window, but he also growls a real growl at the dogs when they are harassing him.....I was so shocked when I heard it as I really did not know cats did that, thought they just hissed.  Something smells really bad here and I have a sneaking suspicion the dog at my feet just cut one.  Nanamims, Where did you live in OH.?

This is a great thread! Just found it!

I live alone and my pets brought me so much comfort when I was going through cancer. Though my story is somewhat sad too. I was diganosed on a Monday in July with cancer.... that Wed my 12 year old cat I had for 10 years was acting weird. I took him to the vet and he had cancer and there were tumors all over and nothing they could do. I had to have him put down that Thurs. Talk about a crappy week!

I also at that time had an 18 year old cat I had since she was a kitten. I begged that cat to please please make it until I got through treatment.

I got a new kitten right before I started treatment as my older cat was used to having a friend and I had room for two and always take in shelter animals or strays. The new kitten brought me many laughs and my love on the dark days of treatment when all I wanted was to lay on the couch with a warm furry animal and just BE and not think about cancer.

I finished treatment in Oct of last year. My 18 year old cat made it another few weeks before I had to have her put down. But she made it through my cancer treatment and it meant a lot to me.. she had been with me for 18 years and trhough everything else in my life.

I got another new kitten in December and she and the kitten I got in Aug love each other to pieces. I still have some side effects from RADS and even just normal bad days at work, and having them to come home to makes all  the difference.

welcome texaslonghorn, They know what we need and she knew you needed her. I ,too, only take rescue kittens and cats, and always spay or neuter.  I have two now, one 4 yr. old, and one nutsy 2 yr. old.  Marybe, have never heard a growl, I bet George sounds fierce.  I have seen many a large dog back away from a cat.  Years ago I had a happy go lucky always smiling brown lab. Sawyer outweighed my Siamese ( asweet one not a Cinderella one ), by about 80 lbs., but always walked a large circle to get around Murphy.  I tried to get him to bark just once to startle Murphy from eyeing him.  No luck, he was terrifed of the cat.  Murphy never even hissed at him or scratched, just the evil eye.
