    arbella.

    Thanks for the info--mine seem to have thinned from the different chemo meds and have not come back.  Good to know something can help.

    Malaika - I am so glad this has worked for you.  It sounds like it is well worth the investment. My eyebrows and lashes didn't fall out until after chemo ended.  Well I had two or three pieces of hair if that counts.

    12 weeks of chemo over. I still have myhair. Got lazy toward the end and lost a bit around the edges over my ears. It isn't a big deal...They were worth it.

    Waiting on a return deposit now. Will let you know if that gets processed in a timely fashion.

    Hello all,

     @ Deborahann and malaika  I am triple neg. 1.9 cm, stage 1 no nodes. first treatment yesterday Andriamycin/cytoxan. (4) cycles then (4) of taxol. last one will be april 23.  Deborahann you are right it is the adriamycin that will take your hair cap or no. the cap works better if you are just on the taxol. or a chemo drug that just thins you hair is my understanding.  malaida taxol usually just thins your hair.i am glad that you don't have take andriamycin. that stuff is no joke. they call it the red devil.  deborahann how were you side effects on adriamycin?  i have been told that it isnt until the second treatment that all of the fun crap really starts.  thank you for anything that you will share.  to everyone, stay strong and live long!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    I used the Penguin cold caps during all of my treatments and am now 6 weeks past my last chemo (7 total...4 AC then 3 Taxol) and my hair thinned slightly during AC but during Taxol started thinning a lot. I bought a wig just in case this would happen, and now I don't go out without a wig.  I've lost 1/2 my hair so need to keep wearing the wig until some hair grows back.  Has anyone used Nioxin shampoo and/or scalp treatment to speed up the hair regrowth?

    HI Mailika;

    Thanks for sharing. If you are still on the forums how did you do with the cold caps? I thought they seemed really expensive for being freezer bags turben style. But again they must be with the price of the rental if you did save your beautiful locks.

    I am to start chemo mid Dec with the A/C and then the taxol. I'm also contemplating a study with Avastin, that is another topic.

    Do you think it's a lot of trouble considering all the trouble of going to chemo too?

    best wishes with your treatment and hair.

    HI Mailika;

    I realize this is for African American women but I had to ask you how your treatments went and as well how well you liked the results with Penquin cold caps. I am to start treatment in mid Dec. I am

    really dreading it. If I knew I did not have to loose my hair I might be better able to cope emotionally.

    all the best,

    Marcia

    Hi All I am posting in the Cold cap area but I thought I would repost here as well.

    Here is a pic 17 days post chemo # 1, I have not experienced any hair loss (ANYWHERE). I am up for round # 2 on monday and I expect it to start after that. I have noticed a 75-80% slowing of hair growth. Used to shave my legs every other day now it's every 5 days. I also have noticed my hair is a bit drier than usual. So far so good with the CC. Here is link, not sure if the upload works. We need a whole section how to insert photos!

    so, i spoke with another patient..not related to this site, about the cold caps and she said that you cannot wear a wig with the cold caps. is this your experience as well? i did leave a msg for someone to call back from the co, but i am trying to get as much info now, as treatment starts the end of april.

     i thought about wearing a wig since i can't color my hair. i still wanted to have my hair so that i would not have to start over after treatment. wow!

     any thoughts, comments? did you just wear your hair out, with no blow drying, coloring etc?

    please let me know asap.

    thanks for you help.

    Hi ladies;

    I will start chemo soon, i think in the next 2-3 weeks, not sure yet on the exxact dose etc but my med onco told me that it'll be "lighter" one for 9-12 wks.. I am soooo dreading and scared of losing my hair, my hair has always been apart of me and i feel like losing it will be soo depressing; I read success stories about PCC and would like to know how well they work for African American hair type. My hair texture is medium/wavy, and currently its relaxed and reaches mid backside. Also, what are the good/recommended shampoos/hair products to use for our hair type when going through or using the PCC. Your advise is much appreciated.

    Thanks,

    I had my first of four treatments with taxotere and cytoxan on June 21. My second treatment is in 2 days, July 12.  I used cold caps and so far have not lost any hair.

    Anyone using cold caps should be aware of the Rapunzel Project: http://www.rapunzelproject.org/.  They recommended Kenra shampoo, which I have been using twice a week.

    Before I started chemo, I lightened my hair color so the white roots would not contrast so much growing in, since we are not supposed to dye for a long time.   That has turned out very well.

    Jamaker - Thank you; I started chemo last week and am using the PCC. I noticed that my hair is extra dy and fizzy, i try to moisturise the hait (ot roots) with my daughters moisturizer (the olive oil one), is there a shampoo/moisturizer you would recommend? Thank you

    Any other cold cap experiences from African Americans?  I meet with the M.O. next week and I do believe he will suggest chemo due to my Her2 status.  If I go with chemo, I plan to use the caps.  My hair is natural arm-pit length hair that I normally wear in twists.  I'm curious how others manage their hair through the whole experience since it seems as if it is SUPER fragile during the cold cap/chemo duration.
