SANDEE... OK i found where I got that information I have the DR SUSAN LOVE breast book... and she said it takes up to 6 weeks for it to completley get out of our system... I knew I read it somewhere... so you will still have some protection.... we are wrapping our arms around you in support and hugs!!!! you will get through this too!!!!! we are here to make sure of that!!!!
-
Thanks SOoOO much Tink...ok....got it....it will be ok....might just ake a bath early and go to bed...start the day early with the sun....Think when I get my car back that I might try going to the 6:30 meditation sessions before work.....would require my going to bed very early however...ok...will remind myself that by the summer, when the weather is glorious here, I will be back on track and living my life as fully as the week before heart surgery....but with more breath! Thanks for loking that up Tink....
Heard on the news tonight of a study where people who work 11+ hours are much more likely to get cancer...does that include house work or working on university work I wonder? Maybe what they should have tested was fun level...how would we all rate?
hugs to all. Thanks for being there
-
Sandee please know I am thinking of you and know that with all the friends and support you have here, we will help you every inch of the way.....you do need to soak and just let yourself breath and thank gosh for Tink as you are still going to be covered until you can get back on Tami full time....HUGS to you my friend.......

I am soooo confused ... My onco did not tell me ANYTHING about any side effects, everything I know i have learned here or have already experienced since I started taking it a coupls weeks ago
Also, my onco did NOT take any blood marker tests on me AT ALL. I asked, he said it was not necessary. He gave me an Rx for Tami and told me to see him in 6 months.
Do I need a new onco? He came highly recommended, but I do wonder why he seems so casual about Tamox...
-
Rennasus - My onc did not tell me a lot about the side effects of Tammy either. I looked them up on the internet and took the sheet in with me. I have not had any blood marker tests done, said they wern't necessary. I see mine every 4 months but can call him at anytime if I am having problems. I would only get a new onc is you are really unhappy with him. I tend to trust mine and know I can ask questions about any tests at any time. My DH and I see the same onc so he better be worth a damn.
-
RENNASUS..My onc did not do any kind of markers or blood tests either. The only side effect she mentioned was hot flashes and irregular cycle... go figure... i could handle those if only!!!! lol
SANDEE..I am glad you are feeling a little better we are here for you!!! hugs
-
Regarding the blood clot issue, I was not told I could not fly, however I have been taking a baby aspirin every day for over a year now based on my own research and my onc seemed to think it was a good idea. Might be something you want to consider adding to your vitamin repertoire, couldn't hurt anyway, I don't think.
-
It is frustrating and confusing with all the oncs doing things so differently. How do we really know we are getting all the treatment(s) and tests we should be getting?
-
Renus . from all indications, my oncologist and radiologist believed I would be ok as i had not present with heart stuff...we all focused on my healthy life style and despite my parent;s heart stuff. they were a big part of their generation and there wer a lot of smokes and drinking going around..and salty fast food since it came out then...and I still think they simply forget becase they are working on it all he time. perhaps we should to up a brochure ourselves, publish it and send it around@
thanks again Tink. You ladies...you all make the world of difference. I didn't want a friend to stay over tonight...i needed to talk to you ladies tonight instead...needed your group brain and hugs.
Thank you!! night

JO YOU said it... it really makes me wonder... what are the right things we should be doing???
-
Tink - I have been seeing my onc since Aug - my BS wanted me set up with someone before my surgery and I have asked a ton of questions. I was on 2 of the AIs and now Tamox. I have asked about all the meds, various tests - CT, Bone, mammos, US etc. and he has answered me honestly and has told me why he does or does not do certain things. He is a believer is not over treating or doing unnecessary tests. He has always assured me that if I need it, he will order it.
-
JO..Thats great and it sounds like there is good communication. I like mine too I just wish there was a "standard" care I guess kinda like they all agree baby aspirin is ok or Vit C is not. That part makes me crazy.... I guess it is part of the territory..... ... you watching DWTS????
-
Of course I am watch DWTS. I would not miss the elimination. We are on central time so don't give it away if it is over in VA.
A "standard of care"? Now that would be too easy. I am finding out that my BS does things different than others. Go figure..
-
Regarding the agree/not agree thing, that drives me crazy, especially about the soy thing. My surgeon says no soy, my oncologist says soy is okay. I gave up my favorite protein drink because it had soy and now I'm thinking, screw it, if there is no consensus, why deny myself?
-
JO...I TVO it I cant stand commercials lol!!! I just started watching it a few minutes ago...I
I agreee SURFETTE it is frustrating....
-
surfette - My onc says soy is okay in moderation. A glass of soy milk a day is okay - just don't drink the whole carton. I would not deny myself of a protein drink. Go for it!
-
My onc told me soy is ok in food but not to take soy supplements. They are too concetrated.
My onc does all the blood test but listens to what I tell him. I think even when onc's do blood test they are more concerned about how you are feeling and any pains you may be having. If you do and your bloodwork is out of wack then they will start running test to find out what is going on. That is how mine looks at it.
And yes standard of care would be way to easy. Seems they are all different.
-
Hmm, well is the soy lecithin that is in a protein drink considered a soy supplement or soy that is in food?
Oh how I wish I could say I am feeling great, and so my blood tests don't matter, but all week I have a bunch of mysterious aches and pains, in my foot, in my hip, in my breast, in my rib, and in my neck.....
-
Sherry - Sounds like at least our oncs think alike.

Hi Ladies,
Questions about Tamoxifen side effects:
Menses: Am 44, pre menopausal. Haven't had my period since chemo started (Sept) and Tamoxifen (Dec). Then got it very heavily starting a few days ago. My onco left a message that I'm a healthy young woman and this is normal. Does that sound about right to you? Any concerns? What would the difference be with endometrial cancer?
Are yeast infections a side effect? I think I may've had one last week, and it seems to have cleared by eating some probiotic yogurt.
FYI, my (cancer specialist) natropathic doctor has me on adjunctive therapies to complement / help with the Tamox: Coenzyme Q10 100 mg twice daily, Indole-3-Carbinol 200 once daily, Melatonin 5 mg before midnight (helps me get to sleep). And for brain fog (post chemo): Acetyl-L-Carnitine 1000 mg twice daily
-
OK - Just lost a big response to all of you girls and now I'm too tired to redo it. So just a few things...
Good luck to everyone and a big huge feel better hug to all of you!
I've done tons of research on this soy issue before the news about it tonight. A lengthy but good nutrition article is on the University of California San Francisco -Womens Health Matters site around page 27 is info on soy in a really long but informative article on breast cancer and nutrition. I'm a computer idiot but here's what part of it says:
"Unless soy has been a part of your diet for years, postmenopausal individuals with ER+ breast cancer may be advised to limit soy consumption to 1-3 daily servings. Soy supplements or isoflavone extracts are not recommended."
cancer.ucsf.edu/_docs/crcnutrition_breast.pdf Hope you can google it with that info.
Basically what I've found is genetically modified soy is in everything we eat. Soy lecithin is in lots of stuff... even instant oatmeal (Jewel organics doesn't have it FYI) i think I read that it's a stabilizer or something that allows for long shelf life on foods.
Sandee hang in there and take care of yourself. I would definitely ask about the baby aspirin thing though. Also the flying thing with Tami is also a concern because of the air compression it effects lymphedema and clots, but I don't think it's very common at all.
Good night all my friends. Tink love your travel bag!
-
I forgot - Has anyone experienced bloating in your thighs? I feel like Eddy Murphy in the Nutty Professor. My thighs just keep getting bigger - I'm really freaked out. It was like an overnight thing after 3 weeks of Tami. Anyone else? With my luck its just me. LOL
-
EastCoastGirl ~ (I am bad with names matching up) is that Nancy?! How are you? I know you weren't feeling good with your surgery. Check in and give us an update.
Thinking of you.
Caroline ~ I went nearly a year with no period (chemo). Then I got it for 3 months fairly heavy and then it went away again. (tamox?) Just keep an eye on it. If it is a normal period and goes away then yay !
Val ~ nothing then my normal dimpled thighs here !
MORNING !
-
Good Morning Ladies ! Have A Great Day.
-
good morning all. I went two nights without a sleeping pill and I did not sleep well. The vivid dreams have gone away but I was very restless. So guess I will start the sleeping pill again tonight. I wonder if I add melatonin at night if that might help me out and get off of these sleeping pills? Any comments are welcomed.
-
Good morning ladies!
Sherry sorry you didnt sleep well. I unfortuneltly have no advice there as I have sleep issues as well. I wake up many times
-
tink it is so frustrating. I don't really go to sleep until around 3 or 4 so it hard to get up in the morning for work.
-
Sherry,
I had horrible sleep issues even before Tamoxifen and nothing helped. People told me for years to try Melatonin and for reasons I don't know, I never did. Well I finally gave in and did--lo and behold, I am finally getting some sleep. A friend gave me some of hers to try (Natures Made brand from Walgreens--3mg), and it totally worked. I am falling asleep fairly quickly, and I wake up clear--no grogginess at all. I get up at 4:45 for work, so I couldn't handle still feeling drugged. I will say I am getting up once to go to the bathroom, but have been doing pretty good with falling back to sleep. I would give it a try.
