LEG PAIN
Dear ladies. I read more here than post and must say I get huge support and knowledge from your posts and stories, thank you so much. I am on my third round post surgery chemo of Taxotere and I am having pain in my legs for a while now. Anyone else experienced the same during tx? Is it the chemo or something to be concerned about?????? ... Karina

talk to your medical team about the leg pain; very important to let them know what you are experiencing especially if something new. communicate everything to the people taking care of you. hope you feel better

I was having problems with my heels during my chemo. And I also felt like having a major charley horse all the time. So I guess it is nothing to be too concerned about. But as Diana said, you should talk to your medical team. Regarding my heels, it seems that my nerves have been damaged by chemo, so that I continue to have that pain even half a year after ending chemo. So you really should let your medical team know about this condition.

Dear Diana and AgentMo, thank you, I will ask my med team indeed on Thursday, just wanted to know that it can happen with chemo, just for a peace of mind. Feel a bit better now.
AgentMo- Hope your heels will get better in time. Good luck.

Karina, I had extreme leg pain that started towards the end of chemo (TC x 4), and lasted for at least 6 months after, as well. It was just in my lower right leg -- worse at night, and so bad that it prevented me from falling asleep or awakened me when I finally was able to sleep. It was so bad, my rad onc sent me for an MRI. I never did figure out what it was from (Taxotere? Neulasta?), but I found that propping my leg up on a pillow helped some. Eventually, it finally happened with less frequency and finally went away. I had all kinds of pain on taxotere. I had to take lortabs and have had to take them since then. NJ

Deanna, mine is not waking me up at nights, and its not too severe, but its like mildly there all the time, and it's better when I have my legs up too. I really hope its from Taxotere, and not anything serious... Thanks for sharing , it helps. Hugs.

Gosh I could have written this. I finished chemo in October and have had pain in my lower right leg. It feels like a bad shin splint. My Pet/Ct was clear and my onc. also had me do an x-ray recently and that was normal -- relief. It was good to read some of these other posts and see that several of us post-chemo (I had AC and taxotere) have experienced similar aches and pains. I was wondering if chemo could have damaged the veins -- made them prone to varicose.

I had leg pains when I was on Taxol and a few months after chemo. Now I have them, from Tamox I think, but they are very few and far between. If I have to guess, yours is probably nothing to worry about but I agree with Diana, mention it to your medical team. Good luck and take care.

I had bad leg pains and still do, on arimidex now. My x-rays and scans never showed anything. I use heat pads or soak in a hot bath and that seemed to help. I hope Taxotere is to blame, let us know.

A couple of days after the first dose of Taxotere, I had horrible pain in my legs, back and pelvis; it was the worse time in the entire treatment period of surgery, chemo and rads., The next three rounds of Taxol weren't quite as bad after I found that large doses of Advil seemed to help if I took them as soon as the pain started. That's been 2 1/2 years and there are still days when that leg hurts but not as bad. My oncologist said there is no reason there should still be any residual pain from the meds. I'm on Famara now, so that could be part of problem. I always thought it was odd that it mainly affected one leg, but very grateful the pain wasn't in both of them.
-
Oh thank you all, so I know I am not alone and it can happen from meds, but will still ask my onco tomorrow. Hugs

I attribute my leg & foot pain (today is 1/2/15 and my last chemo was 12/26/12 - 3 years ago). I live with leg pain. Everything I read points to the Taxotere. I have peripheral neuropathy - nerve damage, similar to what happens to diabetics.
I take Gabapentin for the pain. It is very effective. My right leg still has numbness and cramping, but it is so much better than it was. I still cannot walk long distances without severe foot and leg pain, but now it is not constant. If I go off the Gabapentin, I get all crippled up again. I will not go without it!

I'm having some leg pain in only one leg when I lie down at night. It's rom the knee radiating down the right leg. It doesn't feel muscular but maybe deeper. It's beginning to worry me as I'm at high risk for mets. But from what little I know, bone mets are more likely to start in hips or spine. Anyone have this?

Hi Mary, I had very severe leg pain from Taxotere, which actually required a narcotic. It resolved totally albeit slowly once I completed the regimen.
Dancin now !!

I am three weeks out from my last Taxol treatment. Severe leg pain, mostly at night, just began. Feeling discouraged.
-
Hi Gardengypsy,
I just saw your post. As you can see I had leg pain, when during and after Taxol. I used to take pain meds until it went away on its on.
I hope you feel better soon. Don't be discouraged, you have been through a lot and the pains are the reaction of all the meds we take.Everyone I know and knew had pains duringand shortly after the chemo.
-
Thanks Karina, because I'm 3 weeks since my last Taxol and at night I have restless legs and severe pain on the bottom of my feet. I did ice, but seems like it did not work. I'm glad to hear others have the leg pain. My MO keeps saying it's a SE and will wear off.
-
Thanks, Karina,
Just saw this reply. I got on Gabapentrin for it, now weaning myself off.
I have joint pain from the Tamoxifen, but that's a different thing to tackle...
-
I tried going off the Gabapentin, but the pain got unbearable, especially at night - from my thighs down to my ankles. My doctor wants me to step up the Gaboentin for now, not go off it.
She thinks it's related to the chemo (I was done two months ago), not the Tamoxifen.
-
Leg pain/neuropathy continues to be the most severe side effect of Tamoxifn and chemotherapy for me...
-
Leg pain and neuropathy are ALSO the lasting, life-changing effects of chemo. I can't go off the Gapentin. I tried weaning myself down to 300 2x a day, but I am back up to 3x a day again.
-
I had a lot of pain after taxotere treatment. It turned out to be muscle inflammation, not neuropathy. I took some anti-inflammatories for a while, kept walking, very slowly, and eventually it passed. It took about three months to go away completely.
-
I've always dealt with tight calves and plantar fasciitis (I run) but since chemo it's been worse than ever. I've attributed it to the 20 pounds I gained during treatment but maybe it was the Taxol
-
For me, Taxol AND 20 lbs gained during treatment.
Taking 500 mg.daily Gabapentin now.
I'll bet we'll be feeling a lot better 6 months from now.
-
Well. It's 6 months later and my legs hurt worse than ever.
Taking 900 mg Gabapentin now
