Black Cohosh

Options

Hi ladies,

Was at the naturopath today complaining about night sweats and she suggested black cohosh. She is aware of my breast cancer. Am her2+ and have only 3 more herceptin treatments to go.  Came home and did some research only to discover black cohosh can stimulate the growth of breast tumors!!!!  Also some studies suggest good protection from recurrence.  Once again, so confused!!!  Spent $35.00 and now not sure whether to take it - is in tincture form.  Have been on femara for 7 mos. but every week I think this will be my last week......such sore muscles, tired, nausea in the morning - you know the drill!  Am also taking IDC among other things.

Anyone taking black cohosh with ok from dr.

Love to hear.....thanks all!

I saw an integrative oncologist at UCLA.  Very well respected and noted author.  She gave me Black Cohosh to take for night sweats and hot flashes and I trust her 100%.  Here's her website: http://www.simmsmanncenter.ucla.edu/about/section/bios/hardy.asp

Please let me know what you find out - my hematology oncologist is dead set against anything with estrogen in it, my radiation oncolgist said that phytoestrogens are okay, i.e., edame and black cohash.  I don't think anybody really knows for sure...

My oncologist told me absolutely no to black cohosh for any patient who is ER pos. He said that it can cause the cancer to spread like a wildfire if it were to return. His words..not mine. Its very confusing to hear pros and cons on supplements. I always run any ideas by my onc go from there. But I do not take black cohosh. Prozac took about 90 % of my hot flashes away and it helps with depression. Hugs, Mazy
