DCIS anniversary

Yesterday marked a year ago that I found out I had DCIS.  I had never heard of it and was really confused.  The information I have obtained from this website has been so helpful to me in my journey.  From an emotional point of view, the support, care and love of strangers who take the time to respond to questions and concerns has helped more than I can describe.

I had a small but high grade DCIS in a very small breast.  Lumpectomy 6/1/2010 followed by the decision to do more excision with 6 weeks of radiation or a unilateral one-step nipple sparing mastectomy (immediate reconstruction with implants).  I opted for the latter.  Surgery was successful and my recovery was fairly quick.  I am grateful.  I am not on any chemopreventives.

To all the women who helped me and others in this dreadful time--thank you!   To women who are coming here because they have been diagnosed--I am sorry you are here but you've come to a good place for information and comfort!  God bless you in your journey.
