My wife has visable bumps at her elbow.  Slight pain from elbow to underarm with a swollen node at the top of her underarm.  Appears to be a symptom of lymphedema but....... recurrence is always on our mind.   We are very worried -  she has appt with breast surgeon this a.m.  She is only 32 and hoping she would not be affected by lymphedema (had 29 nodes removed) but more fearful of recurrence.

Appreciate your advise.

Formycindi- Hi, I'm sorry your wife is going through this especially after already dealing with BC before, anything that is new makes us scared and worried. I dont really have a good answer for you and i hope someone will come along who has had lumps on there arms to give you some advice. Sometimes the posts will get lost here with so many of them, just wanted you to know so you didnt think we didn't care, because we do. I hope you will come back and let us know what her Dr's say, we will be here for you should you have any more questions or concerns. Keeping you and your wife in my thoughts and prayers. I hope it is nothing serious. God Bless and Hugs.

My le therapist says that the bumps are something that sometimes happens with le - I'm sure some of the experts on this forum can shed more light on that.

My le definitely causes pain and discomfort at times.  Please let us know how she's doing and push the dr. to get in with a qualified le therapist if that is what he thinks the problem is.

    Best of luck to you!

The doctor check is essential: there are nodes at the elbow--epitrochlear nodes, and swollen nodes at the arm pit and elbow are not lymphedema--they're swollen nodes that need a doctor's check.

At some point in time, if your wife is up for it, she can get an assessment by a lymphedema therapist to give her instructions in risk reduction and evaluate her arm:

Hoping it's all good news--but the doctor's appointment is the way to go.

Thank you ladies - for information and support!   Went to see her breast surgeon (my wife loves him and he is so accommodating).  He diagnosed her with lymphatitis and prescribed antibiotics.  Every ache, pain, bump and itch is a worry.

    Thanks!

Mike, an infection in the lymph nodes does put her at risk to develop lymphedema, so when this is all behind you, an evaluation by a lymphedema therapist could be very helpful.

Hoping Cyndi feels better very soon.

I hope the antibiotic does the trick!  I would get them check with an LE therapist as well.  I definitely had swollen nodes in my elbow & other areas in my arm.  The manual lymp drainage has really helped to keep the swelling down.  Glad that I went while my symptoms were still mild.

Sending love & support your way! NJ
