Marybast,
How about trying copy and paste again of some of your paintings? I couldn't download my painting files so I created a blogspot, uploaded a few paintings and then copied and pasted to here..that worked ok. (when I created a blogspot, didn't realise that there were so many people with my name, and I thought I had a unique one. LOL)
Caerus,
The first painting is the St. Charles Bridge in Prague, and yes, there are people around the bridge, mainly strokes of paint to represent them. I just need to add the statue groups over the bridge supports, not much to do actually.
I have so many paintings that I have done over the years. I love art very much, especially the process. Sometimes we start off with an idea which we have formed in our mind's eye and then when we begin to put shapes, colour and form together, art begins to take on its own personality and sometimes we have to change a few things because as 3monstmama said, it is not always easy to satisfy the image in our mind's eye.
I won't upload anymore until I see some uploaded from Maryblast.
We have a quite a few artists on the boards. SV is a brilliant photographer whose work is in constant demand. Then there is SoCal Lisa who often uploads gorgeous roses. Another poster called Apple who is a musician as well as a painter. So it would be lovely to see works from these gals. And don't forget you knitters and quilters, that's art too and is always well admired.

Fuzzlemon, I forgot to mention that my mother was a writer too. Often when she went through a bad spell, she escaped into her world of writing. (Maybe that's why I escaped into my art when i was diagnosed - some people reach out to others while others delve within; we all have our own way of dealing with difficult situations).
I taught myself how to type when I was about 12 years old (on the old black olivetti typewriter - you would be too young to remember) so that I could type her manuscripts because she could never get the hang of typing. Her mind was faster than her fingers! Because I learned to type at such a young age, I became very fast at typing.
My mother passed away a few years ago and the book she had written before her death was published last January. One thing I recall her saying is that writers should always take a few minutes every day to scribble down a few thoughts or ideas. Do you have time to jot down a few ideas and thoughts every day?

Glenis - Writing is a wonderfu escape ... I can stay there for 7-10 hours at a time ... What did your mother write? What is the name of her work? I do jot down things, just about every day. And I hope to have a work ready at the end of the year
I do remember that typewriter!! Believe it or not, we had one! Man was that bad boy tough to type on!!

Just wanted to share ... I did a charcoal sketch of me and my husband and showed it to him tonight ... the smile on his face was so worth it. All inspired by this thread. Thank you again for starting it.
HUGS!
-
Cool! I loved doing charcoal sketches - you can really capture the lights and darks. Can you post it?
My mother mainly wrote articles and short stories for a magazine in England where we are from originally. The book that has just been published is her memoirs.

It's not much ... but I'm telling ya, he just loved it! And I really had fun doing it!
-
Wow, excellent...you have created depth. Good job!
-
Oh my gosh ... you are too kiind! I think I might try another one today ... and I can take this to chemo with me ... I kept thinking while I was doing it ... "It's forgiving, its forgiving" and I didn't have any fears of screwing it up!
-
YES!! Depth, an expression - I am so happy for you to have created this. I know how good it feels, and to be willing to share with us, THANK YOU! And you are so early in your diagnosis & treatment - wow, I could hardly get myself out of bed for months. You are doing so well - keep it up and PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE continue to be gentle with yourself and your creativity - and LOVE the process. It really is so important a part of our healing.
Painterly you have described the process so perfectly. The process always takes me in a direction I hadn't expected when I startd something, makes it such an adventure, and as if our creativity has invited us along for the wonderful ride!

Nope. I got a message from Mozilla Firefox that I can't copy and paste from my paining blog. Tried entering the URL and size but it doesn't work.
-
I tried cut and paste again, using Internet Explorer. Didn't work. Sorry. All I can do is point people to the blog: http://marysoilpainting.blogspot.com.
-
Marybast - I looked at your blog with all of your gorgeous paintings. I think my favorite on is the hibiscus. They are all very beautiful!
-
-
Hello Mary! Did I miss the owl and the cat yesterday? Regardless, I enjoyed viewing them again today!! Really great work!
-
Painterly your paintings are wonderful! Maryblast I have to wait until the weekend to look up your blog, I'm at work now and they look down on that kind of thing, I'm booked with my kids sporting events this week, but I'm FREE on Saturday and that's when I'll check you out. Oil painting is on my list, I tried it years ago but then kids and life got in the way. Now I intentionally make time for being creative. Fuzzylemon I love your sketch, I love it more that you are finding healing power in your creativity. I work as a school nurse and the year after I was diagnosed I had a 5th grader dx with a rare type of cancer. I shared my story and pictures with her and told her how I spent hours creating. Before every round of chemo I'd give her a big bag stuffed with arts and craft items, anything from paint to clay (I'm sure her nurses in the hospital loved me), the point is that she actually started to look forward to her chemo because of the bag, she'd deliver it to me the week before treatment so I could fill it. Just goes to show that it doesn't matter what age you are, creative time helps us all and it comes in many forms.
PS just as I was typing this my special girl stopped by to show me that she was wearing a scarf I had given her as a belt and wanted to know if we could tie it around her head, she has the most beautiful head of hair now!
Don't you love it!
Let's all try to be creative every day!

Cinda - Your an inspiration ... how wonderful your soul is ... (((((HUGS)))))
-
Oh thefuzzlemon, that sketch is adorable...did you actually do it in during chemo??
Maryblast...just wondering you said that you tried cut and paste...was that a type cos you should be doing copy and paste...it worked for me...just wondering....
CindaD, I don't know what to say about the child looking forward to chemo because of the excitement of what the big bag stuffed with arts and crafts materials will bring...all I can say is that "art has the power to heal."
Still waiting for Caerus/Sunflowers to show us some of her art!
-
Painterly - I did that one while sitting in the sun today, looking at my baby puppy. He's been by my side for the past three months
Love that little guy! My next chemo is Friday ... and that little sketch pad is going with me!
Yeah ... show and tell Caerus/Sunflowers!!
-
It was a senior moment, meant "copy and paste." ...
-
well, I figured out how to change my "name" - I was Sunflowers for almost 4 years til my computer crashed & I couldn't remember my password
CRS ( can't remember stuff) should be a recognizable illness ;-))) And Caerus is one of my favorite goddesses (or is it god?) well...
I hope SoCaLisa will post some of her photographs here - she really is SO amazing. Just posted one of her hillside on another thread for "older women" - so good.
fuzzylemon - you are amazing - and I am sure your creativity is going to inspire more & more of us. How much more chemo will you have to have?
-
Hi Caerus. great choice of a goddess name. I chose my last name "Bast" years ago after the Egyptian cat goddess, no idea then I'd need her as healer now. I've been thinking about our community as "breast cancer goddesses" which seems so much stronger to me than "survivor."
-
I love this post! I wanted to share with you a program that we have in New York, called the Creative Circle. Survivors take classes for free, and are taught by working artists. I have taken a bookmaking class and an art jewelry class so far, and they were both amazing experiences! I will post a picture of the necklace that I made when it is posted on their website.
Right now, I am painting with laser print transfer and enamel on metal at home. I also knit. Being creative is essential to sustaining my spirit.
One love, Jackie

Good morning all!! Today is my "nesting day" so I may not be able to do much with my little tablet ... but I wanted to say good morning! My next Chemo is tomorrow ... the last of the red devils. This screws me up pretty bad so I may not be abel to post until next week sometime ... I have chemo through the end of July ... but I'm hoping the next cycles aren't so bad!
Hugs and a smile to all of you!!

OK Sunflowers, just had to add a pink rose..
-
Lots of photos print up really better and some not so good
but this is one that looks better printed

Beautiful artwork here. And I agree that healing is an art. Why wouldn't being creative boost our progress?
I can't seem to get anything from my account to post on this board. I do Norwegian Hardanger embroidery which I learned while healing from a different illness. It's very soothing and can be done anywhere I care to take it with me.
For you who sew, here's an idea I am going to try. I plan to dress two teddy bears, male and female, one for daughter and one for son, using pieces from their grandpa and grandma's clothing as a remembrance of them.
I think this would work as a reminder of someone we had lost to cancer as well.

Jackie
GORGEOUS! Looks like sea glass? And have you crocheted or beaded the settings? I too make some jewelry - and you are inspiring. I really LOVE LOVE LOVE it.
Mary - ah, so wise, those Egyptians, to honor the cat as they did. When I was in the midst of chemptherapy ( the red devil, dose dense!) - I often listened to Carly Simon ( The Bedroom Tapes) song, THE SCAR. And decided to start a "Sorority" which I called, The Sisterhood of the Honorable Scar - you are very welcome to be an honorary member, so far there's only me ;-)
I would loll about, using face paints to paint on my shiny bald head - mostly hearts & smiley faces, and think about TSOTHS - and how we could have a T shirt, and a tote bag, and then, as you know, I'd feel a little, well "queasy" -drink few sips of warm ginger ale, and fall asleep.
That was 4 years ago - and Life intervened. Like Jackie, Art from the Heart gave me an outlet for my creativity. At the time, 4 years ago this last month, I had such neuropathy from Arimidex, numb fingers, I could hardly hold a pencil let along pick up a bead or piece of soft pastel.
But now - all really is well - and except for the fact it is SNOWING on April 1 - about 10 inches expected - I do know Spring is coming! Thank all for sharing their inspiring work!
Lisa - ooooh, roses.....and they small as lovely as they look. Thank you
