No, Solfegietto is still in his water filled vase in the kitchen.  I haven't bought anything -- not even just a pot with dirt for him and wasn't planning to until it gets reliably warmer and nights are above freezing at least -- it's too cold to put him outslde. Hell, it's back to cold enough where *I* don't want to go outside! >:-P Yeah, I'd like to put him outside on the deck. And the same goes for container gardening if I do that.

Rhubarb.....?! Did you say RHUBARB?  Do you know how to make rhubarb and strawberries?

The rhubarb is really producing right about the time strawberries are ripe around here, so I make a sauce with sliced strawberries, rhubarb, a little sugar and water. Cook it til it's a little thick, then cool a bit and serve warm over vanilla ice cream. Strawberry rhubarb crisp is good, and easier than making a pie crust for pie.

    Happy Spring!

Capital District NY - Saturday was 60s but windy - bought a compost bin, a pruner and some seed packets, Sunday 40's low wind so 5 hour kayak paddle on Hudson - great except something wrong with neck of my drysuit and today my neck looks like something out if NCIS - used Aloe Vera left over from radiation!, today 20's and the snow is sticking-on grass and pavement - staying INSIDE.

Spring is coming,  must be patient, Spring is coming, must be patient.

Hi everyone. I live in central Maine and I too am sick to death of this white stuff! I was so hoping we were done with it. We had such a lovely day last Friday and a nice, sunny (though rather cold) weekend. And now that I have to head into Augusta for radiation, we have a winter weather alert! Grrrrr.....!!! More snow and ice! I am so ready for Spring.

Thanks Cat for the rhubarb & strawberries. My mother used to make that when I was a kid and I could never get enough of it.

OK...SPRING??? MY BUTT! When I pulled out of Dartmouth's (Lebanon, NH) parking garage after my lab rat activities were done for today -- it was to a freakin' BLIZZARD!

I am SOOOOOOOO tired of cold weather and snow.....    :::::sigh:::::

I too am tired of the snow. I am ready for Spring and better weather for riding my horse. I about 30 miles north of Portland. The daffodils are coming up next to my house. I almost forgot mud season is before Spring. Think Spring everyone.

Hello Nicole and Sandymess! Welcome to our anxiously awaiting spring thread. I must have SAD or somethin'. I'm already planning a big cup of coffee tomorrow morning to get me rolling. Maybe hang out at Starbucks for awhile.

Lena, what are you doing with rats?? My daughter's friend goes to Dartmouth-my d is a freshman at Conn College.

Maineiacs and ladies in the East-we're gonna make it!

LOL. Cat, I'M the Lab Rat! They experiment on me at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center/Norris Cotton Cancer Center, as I call it. Translation: that's where I'm being treated and today I had a CT/PET scan, blood test and an appointment with my PCP.

Oh and who said morning coffee! That's what I hate about PET scans -- no morning coffee. Personally, I can tell it's gonna be a bad day when it starts out with no morning coffee, a half an hour drive in the too-dark-for-my-nonexistent-night vision, AND I get stuck with needles.

Well, the trees are covered with snow and ice once again. I'll admit they look beautiful, but they also look pretty when they are green. And that's what I'm looking forward to! Got an hour ride to Augusta for yet another radiation treatment today. Blah!

Hope everyone has a good day!!

Same here, sandymess...when I opened the blinds this morning, the view of the snow and sparkling ice on the otherwise naked trees, combined with the partially cloudy sky, looked like it belonged on a postcard....but yeah, enough with the snow and ice already!

    :::::sigh:::::

Yeah, my day's OK. I'm sleepy but the doc upped/changed my tramadol prescription when I saw her after my scans yesterday, so at least my shoulder pain is way less! How did the rads go?

Hope you and everyone are feeling OK.

Lena, Good to hear your shoulder pain is lessening. That kind of pain just nags at you and makes you exhausted, doesn't it? Rads went quick. It's nothing compared to the chemo. I just try not to think of all the poison they are bombarding my body with. Next week, the dr checks my skin, so I guess that's when problems start to develop if they're going to.

The trees are now just wet and there is more mud in our driveway and on our dirt/mud road. Yuck! Please, Spring, come soon!

    Take care of yourselves, everyone.

Hi All-the snow didn't last long, thank goodness. I have spring bulbs that are up 2 "

Lena-sorry you were the lab experiment and had to be jabbed. Hope you'll have better, gentler days this week.

Sandymess-radiation was about the only thing I didn't have. Hope it flies by for you.

Dreaming of sitting on the beach with a book and a sandwich...

Hi Ladies!  I'm in Maine too - MDI area.  I started taking an EMT course in February. LOVE IT!  I've been such a good patient over the past year, it's really nice to be on the other side of the fence for a change.  I agree, winter has got to go.  Enough already.

Hi Alex56! What a beautiful area you live in. I am in Saco. What a winter this has been, no? Good for you for doing something new, that you've always wanted to do. I keep reminding myself to do that-don't put off anything, if possible. I'm going to look around for some drawing classes and get back into art. I've also started reading Tarot, something I've wanted to do for a long time...

Hi Alex56. Nice to meet you! Good luck with your EMT course. It sounds very interesting. I'll bet it's nice to be on the other side for a change. Being a patient sucks!!

Cat, I've always been interested in Tarot, too, though I know nothing about it. And I LOVE art--all kinds. I haven't been doing much in the way of drawing lately. I've been sticking to writing and sewing. Those are my passions.

    Hi All-

Well, I am blinded by the sunshine this morning, yay! Almost all the snow is gone from the patio. I may just shovel the rest off today.

Sandymess-I bought a Tarot deck and book, then had a lesson with a Tarot reader. Her advice was to start by doing readings for myself everyday to get acquainted with the cards, so that's how I'm starting. I haven't sketched in years, but think I will pick up a pencil tonight.

    Lena-I totally felt like a science experiment. I think I'm developing a dr. phobia/avoidance.

I am planning my first yardsale for the spring. It will be a fundraiser for our Prayer Shawl Ministry at our UU church. Anyone else like to yardsale? Such a Maine thing to do.

I'm not afraid of the doctors -- I'm afraid of the NEEDLES (they HURT!!!) and the DECISIONS (between something bad and something else just as bad or worse).

Oh and back to the weather.....sunny here in NH, yes, but still way too freakin' COLD! 24 now, supposedly going up to 36......

My deck is clear of snow because I shoveled it after each snowstorm so I wouldn't have it accumulate. Parking area is still ringed with hardened piles of what must be by now solid ice, but at least the "skating rink" is gone. Hope it STAYS gone!

Yard sales -- I've never had a yard of my own (still don't) so no, I've never hosted one. I guess maybe I could have a deck sale, but I threw out all my junk in preparation to move here, so I don't have anything to sell. However, my Pack Rat (no surprise -- there's a REASON why I call him my Pack Rat) and I will stop to look at other people's yard sales we sometimes encounter while driving somewhere, and if they're selling anything we want or need, buy it for cheap!

We still have about a foot of snow in our yard and forest. I live on the side of a big hill or small mountain and the sun just doesn't seem to hit as well as it does down the road.

I LOVE yard sales! But I live in the woods off a dirt road, so I don't think we'd get too many customers if we had our own sale. One of these days I'll give it a try though.

Oh, and while we still have a good amount of snow, the MUD is also here. I LOATHE mud season . . .

There were alot of people at Back Cove today when I was in Portland. I had a great ride on my horse today even though it was windy. Hope to do the same tomorrow before the weather turns on Friday. Ugh. Another sign of spring, the road construction signs are up on I-295.

Yeah. GRRRRRR with all this snow! Reminder to self: There is no such thing as Spring in New Hampshire. There is no such thing as Spring in New Hampshire. There is no such thing...

Uh-HUH. Well at least I don't have to go out in it. I did the laundry Monday and both this week's medical visits were Wednesday and yesterday, and I restocked all the fresh fruit and veggies after the Wednesday oncologist appointment... so I have plenty of good food and clean clothes.  So I guess I can say "let it snow, let it snow let it snow" since I'm NOT going out in it!

Yeah looks like a tourist pretty picture postcard out every single window in this house, and knowing I don't have to go out in it I think makes it even prettier. But then again, don't I also remember once upon a time seeing postcards with buds, flowers and green leaves?

I was supposed to drive an hour to Augusta for radiation, but I really don't relish the idea of 2 hours on the road for a 15 minute treatment. Frown Besides, it's nasty out there! Roadwise, anyway. It's actually quite lovely outside my window. All the trees are coated . . . so pretty! But I KNOW there are green things waiting to burst through, and I'm ready for them! Smile

Happy April Fool's Day to us too. My son is happy to have a day off from school. Watching it snow today and lacking motivation to do much so I am enjoying a day with my family. Nice. It was snowing last night on my way home from work at midnight. Maybe it is a good day for a snowball fight. Safe travels for those who have to be out and about today.

Yuk, today is an ugly day so I am going to make scallop casserole for dinner to warm my tummy.  Any of you Maine ladies have any experience with Dr. Shassberger in Waterville?  My surgeon in Bar Harbor sends all his BC patients to him for reconstruction.  I had a consultation with him last fall and liked him, but this whole reconstruction business is starting to stress me out.  I've heard really good things about him from others locally, but if any of you have comments to share I'd love to hear them!

:::::sigh::::: it's STILL cold, windy grey and nasty.

This is worse than "Real Winter." At least during Real Winter, you don't EXPECT it to be warm green and sunny.

I'm depressed enough as it is, I don't need the crappy weather TOO!

Hi Alex56-I had my implants done at Plastic and Hand in S. Portland. What kind of reconstruction are you planning?

Lena-I know- arghh. I've stopped wearing my winter jacket because I can't take it anymore, so now I'm shivering all the time. BUT- I think it's going to warm up for tomorrow, and sunny, if a little breezy.

    Have a good evening!
