The REAL facebook BC game!

Luv...I actually wear wigs and scarves now because my bald head is cold
At first of course I didn't want to get the pitying looks but now as soon as it gets warmer am ditching the headgear. Ihave to say though, I cried buckets and buckets of tears when I lost my hair.

I ignore these 'awareness' game invitations if it is from someone who doesn't know I was treated for BC. Last time I got one from someone who knew about it, I sent her a picture of my chest after my BLM, with the tubes and the drains...and told her there is nothing fun or cute about BC. This is what it looks like. I may just change my profile pic to that next October, to remind everyone it isn't fun or cute, and to do something real about it.
Just invited all my FB friends to this event. I hope it goes viral.
-
966! thank you, ladies!
And dawn - yes, if we'd do that, it would be a slap in the face of pinktober.
-
Have you reached 1,000 yet? (Impatiently waiting.....)
-
977 now
-
990 now...my friends are coming through!
-
995 - almost there!
-
1000 baby!!
-
1000!
-
I have to confess I am cheating - I keep posting the link to this event on the wall of the "fruit" event :P
-
That isn't cheating! It is good marketing
-
Yey!!
-
Dawn - my thought exactly! I'm a perfect marketer!
-
So happy that this is REALLY taking off!!!
I think it will be key to engage the high school and college students for TWO reasons..... 1.. they are the facebook kings and queens and have LOTS of friends, 2... They are very likely to be the ones that are playing those STUPID breast cancer awareness games thinking that they are "making a difference".
Even if they choose not to participate, they hopefully will get the message that those silly games help NO ONE......
Here's hoping this all goes viral and makes it onto the media's radar!!!
-
Also, I have put the invite on the pages of the local news channels. I don't have high school and college students among my friends as I don't have children.
-
I'll get my daughter to send it out.
-
I've joined, and when I added a link I finally came up with a great saying.
Telling someone with cancer to stay positive is as insensitive as telling someone grieving for a loved one to cheer up.
Woo hoo! Now, to invite my "friends".
-
Awesome!
-
Sheila,
I know that *sounds* insensitive, but I firmly believe a good attitude impacts our outcomes. I guess it's really only ok to say to each other.
-
Yes, especially when we pull each other out of the pity pot.
-
I can't find the fruit game on FB, someone has a link? It would be interesting to read!
-
in2places, it was some dumba$$ thing where you said what fruit you liked in support of BC awareness. Like where you put your purse, or what color your bra was. Dumb and insulting, if you ask me. Someone was trying to make BC fun.
-
This was my response to the fruit game: (##s added for explitives)
fu## breast cancer. i have it and it isn't fun. with all due respect, leave me out of this. the pink ribbons and all this happy sh##t is degrading and insulting. I know you mean well, but this is what breast cancer really looks like. I shaved my fuc###g head tonight. -
Day - if you started it, I'm in.
-
thank you, apple!
-
ha.. my daughter is too.
-
I bet they didn't like that, Dawn!
-
Dawn, I agree a positive attitude helps in so many ways. It's one of my primary objectives, to find anything I can to feel better in each moment. I've wanted to start a thread on the subject for some time. Unfortunately we can't jump from grief, sadness, fear or any other bad feelings to feeling positive just because someone tells us we "ought" to. When others try to cheer us up it doesn't work to give that advice. People are better off "going with" whatever feelings are being displayed and reflecting those feelings back. When I'm feeling happy I don't want someone saying, oh! you have cancer, how awful. That's just as insensitive.
But mostly it's the implication of blame and the feeling people are trying to distance themselves by implying "they can't get cancer themselves because they're not negative like me" that hurts. I like to reply by reminding people that more than one in three could get cancer if they live long enough. That changes the look on their face really quickly!
-
Dawn! Yes!! Let's ALL change our profile pix to our scarred chests next october!! count me IN!! (of course, that is, if I am still HERE)
-
It WAS the night I shaved my head, and yes, I was more emotional than usual. I felt bad about blasting her the next day, and I did apologize (she was a family member). BUT I *do* find the pink insulting and degrading. This ISN'T fun or cute. And the FB games are useless.
