Maybe some of you can stow away with JustMeAlicia. By the way Alicia - when are you going on your cruise and where and how many days?
Here is a picture of the ship we will be on - Carnival Conquest out of Galveston
-
justmealicia: I look at pre-tanning as cancer prevention. Going into "tropical sun" when you're pale is begging for cancer!
-
Alicia and Jo how jealous can you make us women??? LOL I think I want to join in with Sherry and see if you can hide us and take us with you. Jo I have a feeling that drink would be my favorite too.....been missing you gals!!!! As far as the tan, maybe you could go to just get a base and cover up the breast area that shouldn't get sun if you had the radiation Alicia.....otherwise I would be very careful.....I tan so easily and I put on so much coverage last summer and I still got dark......
-
June - You can share some of that tan with me. I don't do tanning beds or even lay out in the sun. What I get is just from being outside and doing stuff like playing golf. Miss seeing you here.
Had to call my MO today and have him increase my dose on the Lyrica. It was taking about half the toe joint pains away - but they would still hurt really bad at night. I pick up the new script tomorrow and will take it and get it filled. All this is caused by the Tamoxifen. But if this is the only SE I have for the next 5 years, it consider it doable.
-
Jo we leave on 4/16 from Orlando on Carnival Dream. 7days. Sorry your toe pain is still acting up. Hopefully the increase in your lyrica will do the trick.
girls when Jo's suitcase is full I will stow away some of you!
My computer is off being repaired I am on my daughters IPad, missing my computer.
Thanks for the tanning advice. I didn't have radiation so may try the burning bed. -
JustmeAlicia - We leave on 4/17 from Galveston on Carnival Conquest.
-
Jo and Alicia I am so jelous I could use a vacation from my real life right now. LOL
I go to the MO tomorrow who would have every thought I would get to the point in my life that I look forward to going to the Dr???????? LOL
-
Sherry - I called my MO this morning and he is writing a new script for Lyrica. He is going to increase my dose - 75mg to 150mg. I will pick it up tomorrow and see how that does. I know what you mean - believe it or not - I look forward to seeing my surgeon. Am I crazy or what? He is so compassionate and caring. He listens!!!
-
Hope the new dosage works for you. Pain is no good and I think foot pain is one of the worst.
I use to take the opportunity to go shopping when I went for Dr appts but now I am trying to coordinate my dads along with mine and he is not much of a shopper. If it is quick he is pretty good about sitting in the car, but now the Texas heat will just get to much. Tommorrow he has an appt at 8:30 and mine is at 9:30 same doctor so at least we were able to work all that out. Jo and Alicia take me awayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!!! hehe
-
June-good luck on your US tomorrow, keep us posted. Hope they can figure out what the heck is going on with you.
Wouldn't you know that as bad as my breast has been aching over the last 4 weeks that the last couple of days have been better. I am still going to talk to my MO about it but at least it is feeling better. The breast muscles are still tight, but maybe the improvement is a good sign for something.
-
Charmain - How did you sign up for news alerts on that sight for tamoxifen? Good article, thanks for posting
-
Wow! I took a little break and I am 15 pages behind!! Hope you ladies are all well! Back to reading....
-
JustmeAlicia - If we stow away all the girls, do we have to feed them too? hehehe
June - Good luck on your US tomorrow - sending gentle hugs my friend.
-
JUNE Good luck tomorrow!!!
JO/ALICIA...Looks like it will be a wonderful time. If I bring my own suitcase can I stow away too!!
JO..Glad the MO listened and hope you are on to relief soon!!!
well I was a little bummed today. Had my PS appt and was prepared and ready for surgery next month but he said not yet. Too much swelling left and scars are too hard whatever that means. I have some fat necrosis he will have to remove and refill and some other things he will do but not yet. I understand he is right I really like him and he has not steered me wrong so far about anything He said 3 surgeries in 4 months takes its toll and you need to have it all settle down and heal and he is right I think I was just in a different mind set like ok almost done ...oh welll
-
Tink - So sorry to hear there will be some delays but you do need to give the body a rest and a chance to heal. Everything will get done in due time. Hugs my friend.

Hi ladies!
I have a question that I hope someone can answer. If we are on Tamoxifen, are we in a chemical induced menopause? If I were now to get a hysterectomy, will my SE's get worse? I had hot flashes (with no sweat) for the first two weeks of starting Tamoxifen, now, the hot flashes have subsided and I really don't have any side effects. I am afraid that a hysterectomy will cause alot more SE's - unfortunately, I am BRCA1+ so my onc highly recommends a hysterectomy.
-
Hi All-
I have been taking Tamox for about 45 days. I have not noticed any bad SEs. I am on Pristiq when I got diagnosed very depressed),
I have a question about the SEs. Has anyone noticed her fingernails being stronger. I got a manicure a couple weeks ago and usually my nails split before a week is up, but they are still perfect even without polish. I think I read that tamox is bone protective in pre menopausal women
Would love to know what you all think?
Also my MO wanys me to go on an AI for 5 yearsafter I go through "real" menopause. Anyone else had this reccomendation?
Thanks..Ck

slinky no tamoxifen does not put you into menapause. It is an estrogen blocker which means that should there be any cells in our bodies the tamoxifen blocks the estrogen from getting to the cells and attaching to them. This basically will starve the cells and they will die. There are lots of SE's not that everyone gets and hot flashes are one of them. You never know how your body will react to a surgical induced menapause. Maybe others out there may have more to say or an even better explanation.
Jo and Alicia you don't need to worry about feeding us I understand they have lot's of food on those cruises. I think we will all be fine once we are smuggled in.
Tink sorry for your dissapointment today. I just hate when that happens. But sounds like your PS is good and knows what he is doing.
Dawny you may never catch up. You may just have to jump in where we are now. Glad your back

My lumpectomy last week went well and the results were benign, so now on to reconstruction on April 13th. I have gotten sick form anesthesia before so they gave me a triple does of anti-nausea medicine. They gave me Zofran in my IV, Emend by mouth and a patch behind my ear. They worked great! I was told to wear the patch for 3 days, however it started coming off in the shower so I took it off on day 2. Immediately my stomach started moving and started hurting so bad. Long story short..I was so constipated that I couldn't even sit down. I laid in bed flat on my back for 12 hrs until my husband could bring me some medicine. I haven't felt that bad since chemo! ugh!!!
June - I hope you get some answers and start feeling better soon!
-
Slinky - I would discuss the hysterectomy with your onc particulary if he is highly recommending it. It would be good to discuss the pros and cons. But remember the final decision is yours. As far as the hot flashes go, who knows. That would be a good question for your onc. Best of luck to you.
LovemyLife12 - In answer to your question about an AI for 5 years after 5 years of Tamoxifen, I have read several ladies are doing this. I am post menopausal and had to take Tamoxifen since the AIs are not going to work for me. So that is not unusual. Tamoxifen does provide bone protection and I can't tell you if there is a direct link between that and the fingernails. Maybe someone else can chime in on that one
-
Thanks Sherry. I missed you guys but I was spending way too much time on here and just needed a break.
-
Lovemylife-my old MO had told me the same thing about 5 years tamox and 5 years AL. I switched MO's last month and forgot to ask the new one what he thought. If I remember to ask him MO I'll let you know what he says.
Dawney so sorry about the constipation. Pain meds always do that to me as well. Glad your lumpectomy is behind you and that it was B9. woohoo
-
Dawney Welcome back I missed you!!!!
Ok ladies please hear me out.....I need to vent as I am so mad right now.....I was out walking and my MO called me back from a freaking month ago to tell me basically that there is no way my joint pain is caused by Tamox blah blah blah....I knew he would say that as any concern I ever had he made me feel like I was crazy and that is why I want to change Doc's.....but I have this weird feeling they are all the same here. I had an appt scheduled at the end of Feb which I could not make so I rescheduled and I am now going on Monday but I wonder if I should just change doc's and wait and it could take months to be seen.....any input would be nice as I need to calm down......I hate this whole system....I mean okay, what if it is from tamox, just don't blow me off and I wonder what he will say about my stomach issues, not from Tamox either.....I think I am starting to think I am crazy......
Jo my friend thank you and I miss you too.....I will update you guys, but I am sure I won't hear anything until I see my wacko doc on Monday......can you ladies tell I am a little upset...
-

justmealicia: I was told by one of the nurses at the cancer centre where I live that we are more subceptible to burn while taking tamoxifen. This same nurse suggested spray tan before it gets to the point of where we can easily burn and she told me that spray tanning is saver than tanning beds and much less likely to get cancer.
