You are right about the antagonism from young (I think) morons. Sheesh. Can they even read anymore?

Honestly I think the problem is that they don't want to give up their pre-concieved ideas about breast cancer - they don't realize that it is deadly and can happen to any one of them.  They don't want to be told the truth - it's just too scary for them.  You did get good responses from young women who have seen what the disease really is, just not from the ones who are ignorant.

I went ballistic last year when I got one of those "invitations". I posted what I really thought about it (and got several emails back from people saying they agreed with me). Thanks for doing this Day! I have signed up to attend.

    557! thank you ladies!

Yes, it's unbelievable what some of those comments are. I actually feel sorry for those people, if they ever get the feared beast.

Thank you, Day.  I'm there!  Does anyone know an easy way to invite ALL your friends or do you have to go through checking the boxes?  I'll definitely do that if necessary .. just wondering if there isn't a way to invite all that I'm unaware of!

Angel, you can post the link in your status then all your friends will see it. I added a comment asking them to attend so we could raise money.

Day great post--, but us newbies to facebook need help. What should I do? please list steps. I have a page, but really a rookie on using it. Do you want us to go to a different page?

I woke up to over 700 participants! Thank you!

Sas-schatzi - you just go to that page and click "attend" then put the link to the event in your status.

Angel - unfortunately I had to go though all the check boxes to invite all my friends. You can do also as Barbara said.

I'm going to ask all my Facebook friends to attend.  My daughters have already signed up.  Now I have another thought.

Disclaimer - I did not do chemo so I can't be sure I have any right to say what I'm about to say...

Are we "hiding" the horrors of breast cancer treatment by wearing wigs, caps, scarves, etc?  I think there are people who don't get the devastation that comes from chemo treatment.  And if we go about our normal every day lives looking "normal", then are we just contributing to the impression that it's just not that bad.  Are we covering our heads to keep from making others feel uncomfortable?   Is it even possible to "embrace" our bald heads and make our best effort to "Look Good..." without fear of someone seeing our bald heads?  Are we afraid of making people think we're looking for a "pity party?  You know, men used to worry about hair loss.  Now most of them just buzz it off when the hairline starts to recede, and we've really accepted that as perfectly normal.

I need to think about this, because I just had another biopsy and my cancer has returned (yeah, less than 8 months after lumpectomy and Mammosite rads - not supposed to happen!).  I don't know yet the full pathology but it's likely to be a Triple Negative BC and I am probably going to have a BMX with reconstruction.  And despite my fears about chemo's long term effect on a diabetic, it may come down to side effect vs. ultimately Stage IV mets.

I'm seriously considering flaunting my soon-to-be bald head to raise awareness and encourage donations to breast cancer research.  If someone is uncomfortable with seeing me in the midst of treatment, then they are more likely to get what this is really all about.

I ditched the wig/scarf 4 weeks after the last treatment. I did wear the wig a few times, mostly I wore the scarf, and that only when I was going out grocery shopping (a few times, I rather avoided doing that) and to the doctor's appointments. It wasn't because I wanted to make people feel better, but I looked like crap and I am very vain - one of my defects lol. I actually had a little "mohawk" style fuzz that made me look like one of those little baby elephants. Oh yes, and also because it was summer and my poor bald head was a magnet for mosquitoes. Oy, vey, one time I didn't realize, went outside to water a plant in a pot, by the time I came back inside the house and I looked like I had multiple concussions, and fervently hoping all the darn mosquitoes would die from all the chemo crap in my blood.

Once I had 1/3" of hair on my head, I ditched everything, dyed my hair (yes, I know I' wasn't supposed to but I still did it) and went with my shaved head held high.

Hi Day...forgive my dippy mind...I swear this Faslodex really does have an effect on brain cells...by the time I got home and stopped off to pick something up for a neighbor - some day I will tell you about my group of misfits (we are 3 'families' that each contain a medically challenged person and we have more fun than the 'normal' neighbors) and stopped at their house and got home, got the doggie out and fed - took my evening meds - I literally woke up with my face headed for my keyboard (again) and totally forgot all about joining the event...geez.

I will join this, I promise!  Tonight is acupuncture - everything goes out of my head with that - it is such a great experience - if I could only 'float' home instead of having to drive...it would be nirvana!

    Hi Day,

Beautifully written and a GREAT idea!!

I am not on facebook but, have sent out an e-mail to people in my address book who I know are on it while I try to figure out the whole facebook thing.  I'll probably have to have my teenage son show me how....

PS... LOL with your story about hoping the mosquitos all died!  I hope they did too!
