How much do radiation treatments cost?  I've heard that the simulation costs about $15K to $20K and each treatment is between $1K and $2K.  I am worried because I have to pay 20 percent.

Thanks in advance for any info!

srbreastcancersurvivor ~ Like every tx for bc, radiation seems to be incredibly expensive, and California often seems to lead the way when it comes to high costs.  I thought the figures you quoted sounded high, but I just checked my insurance claim printouts, and they were pretty close to that.  Do you know if you have a maximum out-of-pocket?  The two years I was getting active tx, I reached that out-of-pocket max pretty quickly, and then my 100% coverage kicked in.  This past year, I didn't have as many expenses, and, as you said, even that 20% can be significant.  But both facilities I've dealt with were very easy to work with to set up reasonable monthly payments, and that's what you may have to do.

    Good luck!    Deanna

I called the insurance company the other day and asked if there comes a point where they pay everything. They said no, no matter how high my claims I will always pay 20 percent.

Does that sound right?  I have United Healthcare.   I  think I'll call them back now that I know it is called "out-of-pocket max"  Hopefully they misunderstood my question?

     Thanks so much!

Yes, call back and ask them to clarify. I have a maximum out of pocket at $1500 a year, I was lucky because my company switched insurance company this year.

Not all plans has a maximum though..

    Good luck!

My total cost for my radiation was $60,000.00.  By the time I had rads, I had met all my deductibles and insurance picked up all but a $10.00 Dr. Copay. Hope you have the same luck!
