Skin S.O.S. - Scar Remedies

I have some Tropyl-Active, but am really more interested in the Lugol's for my most recent set of scars. If the Tropyl folks say you shouldn't expect to see results for 6 months, WTH?? That's normal scar maturation time!
-
has anyone tried scarpin? Seems to be rated high on internet.. I just want to diminish the lines I have. I would love to just see a pencil type scar...alas...to look normal again!!!
-
I am allergic to adhesives on tape so that doesn't work for me. I've been using pure vit. E oil which comes in a roll on stick that costs 5.95 per stick. I get itbat my local health food store. It has made dramatic improvement in my scares and I have only been using it for a month. I roll it over the scars twice a day and let it dry for a few minutes before I put on my cllothes. It's called Natural Roller E made by Golden Way of Louisville, KY. I prefer to use natural products and if I can't pronounce it I don't use it.
-
AnneW....the 6 months is for older scars but it does nothing for them. Very disappointed in the Troply-Active. Glad I did not pay full price for it.
Snobird, Good rule of thumb. I have a stick like that but it is Cocoa Butter. Think I will start using it and also order the Lugol's. Will see my PS in July so maybe he has a solution other than cutting me again. That will not happen. Surely there is a lazer treatment for scars.
-
Linda: I hope the topical treatments work so that you don't have to anything more extreme. I do think they have lazer for scars but would only use this as a last resort. The lugols should help but can be slightly drying so if you use it with a scar cream this should help. Hugs!

I went on a search in town today for Lugol's, now that I have some fresh scars (I tend toward hypertrophy with scars!) Not a bottle to be found on any shelf. Apparently it's a "radioactive" scare...
-
AnneW - I had to order Lugol's, I couldn't find it in any store. I think I ordered it from Amazon.com.
-
I went to Amazon to look for Lugol's....soooo many to chose from. Which one works best on scars?
-
MBJ is the 'expert' on Lugol's. I bought the lowest concentration and it worked fine for me. The higher the concentration, the more it dries out the skin. I think MBJ bought both but I can't remember which one worked better for her re the scars.
-
Yeah, I'll have to order from Amazon. But I bet they'll be sold out quickly, if this nuclear issue doesn't improve in Japan. If any town would have Lugol's, it's Boulder, CO! But my Whole Foods, Viatmin Cottage, and Pharmaca were sold out by yesterday...I don't think the radiation will come this far if it comes at all. But evidently some folks aren't going to take any chances...
-
Lugol's protects from radiation???? Wow, now I have heard everything! I preferred the lower dose, too. the stronger didn't do much ad it is much more drying. Do use some kind of cream if it dries out your skin like the bio oil.
-
Do you apply the Lugol's to the skin or ingest it?
-
You need to ingest iodine for it to get into your bloodstream and saturate your thyroid. When it saturates your thyroid, the radioactivity cannot, thus your risk of thyroid cancer after a nuclear fallout can be hopefully avoided.
-
Wow, good to know.
-
A doctor on the Today Show said that there's no reason for people in the US to be ingesting iodine because the radiation from Japan will not affect us.
-
skippy: I think there is a kind of iodine that you are allowed to ingest. The iodine that is in liquid form, I believe (correct me if I'm wrong), is applied topically on the skin!!
Brenda
-
Abnerb: You are correct in that the liquid, over the counter type with alcohol is for topical use only. The problem with liquid iodine is you have to build up over time. I was told to take 50 mg of Iodoral in the pill form (www.breastcancerchoices.org) until the threat was no longer. We are experiencing slightly hightened radiation levels in So Cal according to a person with level testing equipment in West Hollywood. We are at about 50 and should be at 25.
-
MBJ,
Sorry to ask you to repeat yourself, but could you give us all a Cliff-Notes version of how to use the Lugol's? (First, where is the best place to buy it?)
Big thanks!!! Also, has anyone on these boards had any luck with the InvinCble?
-
Whitedove: I just did a google search online for the least expensive one, which fluctuates like pill prices. I just take a cotton ball and dab it on. Where gloves if you want to avoid yellow fingers
Also, wait until it dries so it doesn't stain your clothes. If you want to add cream, also wait until it dries. Same for using the scar gel afterwards. -
My ps sells an ointment therapy for scars called PRO SIL. I'll let everyone know how it's working.
-
Update. Breast scaring almost invisible after using Roller E on scars for 6 weeks.
-
Snowbird: That's great!
-
Snobird,
Is that like roll on Vita E?...if so, what is the difference in it and pure Vita E oil?
-
It is called Natural Roller E by Golden Way, Louisville, KY. It is 5,746IU natural vitamin E oil ( d-alpha tocopheryl acetate). It comes in a .38 fl oz glass vial with roller top. Costs 5.15 at my health food store. I just started my 2nd vial so the first one lasted about 5 weeks.
-
Thanks a million, MBJ.
You are an amazing resource!
-
Has anyone tried Scarfade? That is what my PS recommends, I just emailed him. I had the steri strips removed yesterday at my follow-up appointment with my PS. I had exchange surgery on March 17th. The scars look good but are raised.
-
This isn't for scars, per se, but I recently bought some exfoliating lotion from Avon to try to get rid of that leathery feel to my radiated skin. It worked great with the very first treatment! (No, I don't sell Avon). It's Anew Advanced Dermabrasion System. Just a thought for anyone with irradiated skin as well as scars.
-
Whitedove: You are very wellcome!
riley: Ouch! That sounds painful but if it worked for you, great!
-
It didn't hurt. It's actually marketed for facial use, and exfoliating scrub doesn't = sand blaster. LOL.
-
Riley: Good to know it's isn't a sandblaster, lol!
