Hello,
Vitamin C can protect the cell from damage caused by the free radicals in the body so as to avoid the cancerization of the cells. Foods that can contain plenty of vitamin C include grapefruit, lemon, orange, pomelo etc.
Thanks

For those interested in breast cancer specific diet information and risk reduction, rather than leave this website, I would recommend the Nutrition section that's right here:
http://www.breastcancer.org/tips/nutrition/
http://www.breastcancer.org/risk/new_research/
On breastcancer.org, the information that is posted is vetted by doctors and nutritionists.

Breastcancer.org is an excellent resource for info on nutrition and multiple cancer-related topics, but so are many other resources. You are all intelligent women able to decide for yourselves where to go for information. I have a feeling you would not limit yourselves so I would never suggest where you go or not go for information, but if you chose not to limit yourselves to one resource, konw there are tons of good ones. Which reminds me, if you're interested in more on diet and cancer, the American Institute of Cancer Research is a great source. They post regularly and also wilil send you a free on-line e-newsletter on cancer-fighting nutrition and recipes.
Their site: www.aicr.org.

Thanks for the info on vitamin C.Here are a couple of articles on the topic. Some are old, but much of the ongoing research continues to support the point - Vit C good against cancer.
http://profiles.nlm.nih.gov/MM/B/B/K/Z/_/mmbbkz.pdf One of main points was study subjects with advanced cancer lived more than 4 times longer who did ascorbate than those in the control group who didn't.
http://www.cmaj.ca/cgi/content/full/174/7/937 One main point, high dose IV Vit C has shown to be toxic to some cancer cells but not healthy ones.
Again, I invite you to visit my site for more on nutrition and cancer and other topics if you like.
Best,
Rachel

Kja517,
Thank you so much for your kind words and I am so happy you are getting something from my website and other links/contributions I've posted on breastcancer.org threads. And yes, cancer is personal for me between my dx, my mom's, dad's and at least half of my dad's side of the family. All the best for your daughter in her healing. How is she doing now? I hope well. I'm assuming you're here on these threads for her, and that's great that you look out for her. She's lucky to have you!
Best,
Rachel

Rachel, I believe in letting people know that they are doing a GREAT job. Yes I am definitely on here for my daughter. I am so sorry you and so many of your family members have been affected by this ugly disease. Thank you for asking about my daughter. Actually today, was 1 year, when she got the phone call from her OB/GYN telling her she had cancer. She and her husband spent the day doing FUN activities, to erase the memories of last year. She is doing so well and I have to thank you, for your articles on staying fit, excersising, and eating right. She is in better shape now than she ever was. With being Triple Negative, after chemo, surgery and rads, from everything I have read, taking care of yourself is the key to hopefully not having a recurrance. I look forward to reading more on your website and here on breastcancer.org. Thank you.

Well, one year is actually a landmark, even though most of us would rather not remember that day! As a TN survivor, I too cling to lifestyle since, as you said, after chemo, it's you on your own to stay healthy and strong. It's a personal choice - I'd never tell anyone how to live (well, I nudge my parents on their choices
) But for me, personally, I cut back to one serving a week of meat or dairy. I cut out preservatives and refined sugar. And do tons of veggies, blueberries, raspberries and nuts and I take melatonin and reishi mushroom tablets (sounds like you do your research and know all these things to have cancer-fighting properties). My one vice is I drink too much red wine! just can't part with it. I walk too. So glad your daughter has you and her husband in her corner! And I hope they did enjoy the day - blocked out the ugly memory and just had fun.
