If you will pay for the blood tests yourself there are a few online sites where you can order your own blood tests and then go to labcorp for draw. www.privatemedlabs.com is one place.

hi!
I used to get mine at the local Mother's Market, but have now found it at www.vitacost.com for a LOT less, probably 1/2 the cost!!L

I've been taking DIM and Tamoxifin for the past 10 months. My wholistic health MD recommended DIM and my oncologist is fine with it, as long as I'm still taking the tamoxifin. I take 2 DIM per day and use the one made by Douglas Laboratories.

Hi,
Has anyone experienced bone pain with DIM? I started it a week ago and by the 5th day I had severe bone pain. Could be that I have so little estrogen and took HRT because of the lack of estrogen. Just wondering.
-
I started DIM back in October of 2010 together with Arimidex. End of October I had to stop Arimidex for two months because it was throwing my thyroid out of whack. so I was only on DIM until January of 2011 when I tried taking Arimidex again and after three weeks had to stop it because again my thyroid was out of whack, my blood pressure was high and my heart rate was high. The effects take between 4 and 5 weeks to go away completely. So I was on DIM only until yesterday when I started Aromasin. Hopefully I'll be able to take it. My ER+ was 98% in one type of cancer and 92% in the other, so yes, I think the estrogen inhibiting therapy is very important for me.
On top of that I eat at least 2 cups of raw cruciferous vegetables a day. You'd have to eat 2.5 lbs a day (raw) or 4 tbsp of raw broccoli sprouts for the 200mg/day recommended.
My BS recommended it too for me, he was still Director of the Breast Cancer Institute at John Hopkins when they had started the study about Brassicae plants and their effect on estrogen.
The type that I buy online is a different brand than the most common ones - I didn't like the added soy, folic acid, tocopherols and pepper fruit extract in those. It's just plain DIM in a vegetable capsule that is not made from soy, but from rice.
-
I also take the bio response DIM. I also take Tamoxifen. The DIM give me peace of mind as far as helping to prevent uterine and endometrial cancers that Tamoxifen can cause. I gave my onc the info that says DIM actually enhances Tamoxifen and so he humors me.
Thank you, fairy for telling us about vitacost. It is half the price. I'll just get all my supplements thru them. What a savings!!

Mmmm... the price is good but, I am not sure.
Let's take the NSI cruciferous vegetables.
Content:
Broccoli Extract (Brassica oleracea I.)(Standardized to 4% glucosinolates)(plants and sprouts) BroccoSinolateTM 400 mg *
Watercress 4:1 Extract
(Nasturtium officinale)(leaf) 100 mg *
Indole-3-Carbinol (I3C) 50 mg *
Rosemary Extract (Rosmarinus officinalis)(standardized to 7% rosmarinic acid)(aerial parts and flowers) 50 mg *
DIM (Di-indolyl-methane) 14 mg *So, you see DIM is only 14 mg.
Nasturtium has to be used fresh, uncooked or undried otherwise the substances that are for medicinal use disappear. Nasturtium is great to help with lymphatic drainage, but only fresh, in salads.
Rosemary is a good de-toxifier, but capsules are about 10% of the efficiency of natural tea (actually infusion). I'd prefer to drink the tea, if I don't have enough in my garden, then I buy from mountainroseherbs, organic.
You'd have to take about 8 capsules a day to reach the required amoung of DIM daily. Price is not that good anymore. Don't even bother looking at the brassica powder, as the amount of DIM in any processed plant falls to about 5% - that's why you need to eat your broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage raw, not cooked.
The Source Naturals one - let's not even talk about it. It's got so much other stuff in it it's not even worth it - including soy.
Nature's Way - only 100mg DIM. So actually you have the supply for one month. It's still not THAT bad.
Olympian Lab - same as Nature's way. Nice capsules. I'd choose it over Nature's Way because of the fact that it's stated free of more things. Still a pinch more expensive monthly than the one I'm buying now.I might give it a try. The one I buy doesn't say "free of..."
This is where I'm buying mine:
-
I take the DIM by Douglas Labs as well, I get it from my ND and aside from each capsule containing 150mg of DIM, it also has 300mg of curcumin, 200mg of green tea leaf extract, 50mg of wasabia japonica, and 5mg of black pepper. I take 2 a day.

Does anyone know about S/E? I read somewhere you could get stomach prob./headaches.
I already have lots of stomach problems thats why im not takin the ALs.
AND i quit everything from the cow and after a lifetime of migraines that is gone too.
just wanted some input as my onco said its ok to take DIM.
-
The only SE's I'm aware of are the same SE one has when eating broccoli and cabbage... if you get my drift.
-
Thank you Day.I do get your drift.ha.
Another question......does anyone know if they have the DIM in chewables??????if they do i could start off taking a small bite to just try it not overload my stomach and spend the day you know where.
-
No, DIM is only in capsules. It's because the di-indolyl methane is gone when the plant is submitted to high temperatures (thus raw vs cooked if you got fo rthe plants themselves) so the only way to make an extract is in this form. Don't worry, it won't cause you an upset stomach. Trust me, you'll be fine.
-
Do you know whats the lowest dose????
-
the lowest dose to be efficient is 200 mg/day
