Linda ... I've never seen an annual financial statement for BCO.
Does anybody know if it is on this site somewhere? I can't find one nor can I find one online. All I can find is what is on Charity Navigator.
-
Ladies: I just got a message from Melissa that my last post was "insulting" . Where is her SENSE OF HUMOR?? She wants me to turn into something I can't be. She wants me to change the post to make it "nice". Well, now you don't have to be concerned about helping me find a way to donate to BCO! I reread the post and it was about telling that other gal we don't need talk about scams on here and I did not say it in a vulgar, abusing or not nice way! Anything else I posted I was justing playing with you ladies and kidding around. YOU seem to understand me and have always made me feel wanted and welcome here but I WILL NOT change who I am just to fit Melissa's idea of what "correct" and "nice" posting is. You are my gals and I will miss not helping you to find laughter in this miserable world of cancer. I deeply care about ALL of you and hope you will always remember me as who I really am. Not what Melissa thinks I need to be!
Goodbye my beloveds. You will always be in my prayers and in my heart.
-
Medigal, please don't go but if you do don't forget to PM me and tell me if you start posting somewhere else.
-
Medigal, now don't YOU leave! I understood your post as you just being your outspoken, crotchety, humorous self because I have read many of your posts by now. Sorry that you got misinterpreted. Maybe Melissa needs to read through your wonderful writings and laugh, cry and gasp a few times and she will eventually "get" you. I mean this affectionately.
Rabbitt - I looked and couldn't find one. This page leads to general information about sponsors and partners, etc. but there are no financial statements.:

I think there is a sort of ranking for how much charities disclose online, and the more they disclose the better the ranking or recognition. Lindasa is the expert... The American Cancer Society has its tax forms available for viewing. Not that I think much of that organization, though, so its financial transparency doesn't make a difference to me.

You're new here so have little experience with the Moderators. If you observed a bit longer before you spoke, you'd know that the Moderators don't "get off" on control and they're likely not "pouting." If anything, there isn't enough moderation on the boards.
I didn't see Medigal's post, but knowing Medigal there was nothing rule-breaking in it. Just Medigal being our dear, sweet, loving and brutally honest self. The Moderators don't know Medigal as we do and made a mistake on this one. That's all there is to it.

JB .. I don't agree with you. Our moderator has always responded to my questions and notes to her with kindness and respect. I think insinuating that something is wrong with her is out of line.
I do agree with Enjoyful's note. Medigal's post wasn't over the top, but it may have been taken that way. I think there was a misunderstanding between Medigal and our moderator.

Shokk made perfect sense to me in her joking way. Why would you come on here and start throwing your weight and insults around? Talk about 'getting off' on control.

Medigal -- you are such a breath of fresh air! We don't want that fresh air going to some other site -- so please DO stay with us here! Some of us need to hear your great down-to-earth, common sense posts!
BTW, I'm sure BCO has audited financial statements available. I suggest -- if you're interested -- to pm Melissa and have BCO send them to you via snail mail.
-
Okay All, If I misunderstood, I apologize. Medigal, I can reinstate your post. Just trying to cut out the tension in order to avoid any escalations.

These are the finacial statement from FYE 5/09 = operating at a 500,000 deficit. You have to copy & paste to get to BCO - for some reason, the link just takes you to the main page.

From Medigal Motherofpatient: Don't you think we have enough "energy" going on here without your insinuating about a "scam"? My concerns about "how" to donate without revealing my personal info has nothing to do with thinking the donations are not being used for a good purpose. I trust this forum completely as long as I can stay anonymous. I wonder how far Ardmore, PA is from where I live?? I'll resolve this sooner or later. Thanks ladies for all the helpful but unuseful info. Nobody seems to like my idea of meeting Melissa in disguise at Walmarts so it's back to the drawing boards for me.I don't use Paypal, or Payenemy or any of those places where I have to give a credit card. I use it at the stores because the way they make you scribble your name NO one can read it and tell who I am. Maybe if I can talk my Onc into taking me off of this mine-blowing Arimidex, I will be able to think clearly and not be so concerned about this issue. I wonder if Donald Trump has these turmoils when he gives donations? Athena, will you quit talking about leaving us? No one is going to ban you especially not Melissia, imo. See how nice she is being to us and instead of the lawmen she has a "Team" now with her. If you stay, I'll give you my real, fake name I use for my "real" friends. No, I won't. That is too much to ask of me. Have a great day ladies! I have personal business to attend to.

Thanks, ADK.
I have to point out that their net assets were at $3.2m, which is very healthy. I don't know much about not-for-profit organizations or their accounting, but my guess is that it's typical to see operating deficits when times are bad.
E
Edited to change "are at $3.2m" to "were". The latest numbers were as of 5/09.
-
Enjoyful,
Love your tag line. {Quietly snickering to myself}
-
Thank you, ADK! I try to remember that when I'm in tense situations with people. They always wonder why I stare at their shoes. :-)
-
Melissa .. thanks for putting Medigal's post back up.
Medigal .. please don't leave the board ... I'll really miss you and your sense of humor!
hugs,
Bren

Well, since we were talking about the Moderators and the level of moderation, I think option (3) is a safe bet.

WOW, SO MUCH DRAMA! Okay, I apologize!

Anyone on that site would suffice. BTW, my daughter is a lawyer in case you didn't know.
So is mine.
However, I haven't called her in on this silliness...I wouldn't waste her time! She's a very busy attorney! -
Shirley, you know as well as I do, that the forum was NOT hacked. My daughter would walk on fire for me!
-
I wouldn't call accusing someone of a crime "silliness," Shirley. Professionals take their reputations very seriously.

Out goes one problem, in comes another...never a boring moment on this thread.

Melissa: Thank you for the apology and I thank our wonderful ladies for helping me to be able to stay where I feel I am meant to be. However, if my post was insulting or not nice to someone, I would truly appreciate knowing what I wrote that caused the problem so I can try not to have it occur in the future. I like to learn from my mistakes when and if I make them. So if any one sees things in the "problematic" post she reinstated, please help me by PMing me and telling me what you see I did so in the future, we will not have to have this problem with my posting.
Now back to the reality of our posts. Whew! I almost missed our Shirley and Blue having a fight over who has the best lawyer daughter!! Well the mystery is solved. "I" do!! She's not a lawyer but she gets the crown for being the daughter who would not only "walk on fire" for me but loves me so much she refuses to allow me to be her friend on FB so I can't read all the stuff she must be up to. Now THAT is being a loving daughter!
It's so good to be home again, ladies! Thank you for your kind and loving PMs and posts. To the sweetheart who threatened to morf herself into a dragon to save me, I send my "wabbit" a special hug! I don't know what I did to deserve this but I sure am glad I can still be a part of your electronic lives. Hugs to all!!

(((Medigal)))

Medigal .. you're more than a part of my electronic life ... you're part of my real life. I consider my friends on here, my friends in real life too!
I have met many, many of the women on these forums, and we've become lifelong friends. In fact, last fall, I had a gathering of 13 women survivors and various husbands at my home for a weekend. We all met on BCO!!

Sorry Athena, but I did get confirmation late last night that the forum was not hacked, which I am happy about, btw. I just wanted my name cleared but since no one else seems to be bothered with clearing it, I'm gonna have to do it myself. I won't muddy up this thread again....unless, of course, I'm instigated!
-
Medigal....hahahahaha. My daughter's better than yours is <sticking out her tongue>!
-
Medigal, so very glad to see you back! You do crack me up!
And by the way, I have the best daughter. At age 16 my daughter my shy and gentle daughter stormed the Emergency Room and set the doctors and nurses straight for giving her mother the wrong kind of drugs (I was incapacitated at the time). She's over 6' tall and must have scared the heck out them. They mumbled apologies and backed away. Slowly. Hahahaha.
-
Hugs back at 'cha Medigal!!
-
Yay for your daughter E. Today is International Women's Day ... and we celebrate her too!
Bren

Blue, I wasn't referring to you but to Shirley bringing it up again and suggesting it wasn't important. I thought we had firmly established that it was and there was no silliness about it.
