My Fellow Deletees and The Cyberbullied Sisters

Laura, definitely not a call to arms! Just an observation that some opinions seem less prone to "disagreement deletion" than others!
-
Oh...okay, Ann! That's what I hoped/thought. It could also be because so many have me on the IGNORE list! Bwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!
-
Can anyone tell me how long you are on restricted posts if you've been deleted by the community. I can't find the information anywhere.
Thanks
Bren
-
I think its a week Bren.
-
Okay .. I'll go back and check when I got the msg from BCO that I was deleted the second time. I just checked and it was Saturday early a.m.
Thanks
Bren

So, everyone who posted here, what do we tell newcomers - donate to the cause stated at the top or not?
I am conflicted regarding any new pennies in the till. Will take a short nap to think about it (in my dreams, at any rate!)

-
I think my restriction was from the first deletion on March 2nd, because I was able to edit my post above without the dreaded big red X popping up. Maybe Melissa fixed it since the deleted posts didn't break any BCO rules.

Ladies: I am curious about something. We have all this discussion about the dangers of giving out personal info on the internet soooooo how do you handle the donations. You certainly can't send cash anonymously to a post office box. If you use a personal check or your credit card aren't you exposing this information on some internet page. What protects us from hackers or troublemakers getting into this personal information. I am sorry if I sound paranoid but all this latest stuff going on about someone being able to hack into very private information the people on the other site thought would not be read by any one but their own really concerns me. I have always heard about hackers but until this stuff exploded on here and the other forum, it never got that close to home with me.
So how are you who are donating finding a way to donate without exposing your personal info? If there is a way, I would appreciate any info you can share. More than ever now, I do not want to expose myself or family to anyone knowing my personal info. Thanks for any advice you can share.
-
I donated via the internet using my credit card. Those areas should be safe. I'll let you know if I have any problems because of it. I don't shop on the internet, but I do trust this site.
-
Medigal .. I think it's perfectly safe to donate to BCO. I would be hesitant about donating to other sites though. I think the security here is pretty tight, not too sure about other internet locations though.
Bren

Medigal, to give you a philosophical response, my view is that, while capitalism is rotten in some senses, it is infinitely superior to both feudalism and communism because it has that very convenient element of self-interest built in.
If BCO could not practically guarantee the safety of its donations, its entire livelihood would be at stake. It is in their interest that your information be kept private so that you may have no hesitation in donating as many times as possible. I am neither a believer in the tooth fairy nor in the bogeyman, so I don't think identity thieves are everywhere, although I am positive that they wish they could be.
Mailing in a donation is far less secure, as you have to depend on a third party (the mailman) and usually you do not get confirmation of payment any time soon.
I should warn you that I have found BCO to be on the slow side. They can take about 48 hours to acknowledge receipt of funds. However, I wouldn't worry too much about security here.
-
Athena: You don't understand my concern. When I post on here I can feel free to say what I want because no one really knows if it's me or Dale Evans (You're probably too young to know her) but once I send in a donation, Melissa and her cohorts and her "lawmen" will know who Medigal really is! What's the good of having a "Nome de Plume" if I will be uncovered and my anonynimity will be gone!? I will have to behave forever after on here! No more fun and picking at everyone. Medigal will be Medisad because BCO needs money!
Can't she just meet me in disguise on a street corner and I can give her a few bucks and run?! I am great at disguises. Or we could meet at the local Walmarts and I could pay some stranger to hand her my donation. Must be a better way than having to reveal myself to anyone. I love the anonynimity of the internet and being able to have strange names. I'm really not crazy about my real name. It's boring and not me at all! For example what if our Jim Morrison "Blue Dahlia" were really Mrs. Harry Watson? Where is the excitement and mystery in that? (Oh Cripes!! I HOPE her name isn't Harry Watson!) Blue, I APOLOGIZE. It was just a guess and I think Harry Watson is a great name so tell hubby not to be angry with me if he IS a Harry Watson. It's the Arimidex ladies. It messes up my mine! I would delete this but somebody wrote today it would be here forever anyway. So I rest my case. Melissa needs to meet me in disguise in a Walmarts of MY choice if she wants my donation (petty as it will be considering). Have a good night ladies. I need to hang it up for the night. Sanity may return in the morning but don't place big bets on it.
-
Could you log out and donate as a guest?
-
Medigal, I think you could mail a check to the BCO offices in Ardmore, PA -- I'm sure Melissa could confirm how to address a donation.
-
Yes (to E's question). You can also pin your donation to a different e-mail address from the one used to sign in here. As a privacy freak, I use an e-mail address that does not have my real name when posting in public forums with no legal requirements. I use one with my full name when making payments (including donations) or dealing with anything important or corresponding with people who know me personally.
Medigal - lol.
Your concerns confirm what a lady you are. Any Wall Street sociopath would have just the opposite reaction. He would say "Now that I donated money, I own the place and can do whatever I like." You, on the other hand, see the donation as a handshake and the formation of a relationship of give and take. That is so refreshing. It took me a while to see the significance. I know you were half joking, but most people would feel less vulnerable with a donation - not more.
Me - I feel like an idiot either way.
My pennies in the till give me no more rights, nor fewer obligations as a BCO poster. Yet even if I decide to never post again starting tomorrow, I will still have gotten much out of this experience. On the whole, the exasperating factors aside, it's worth it. Even if I leave next week. G'night too!

PAYPAL!
-
When you donate here (or shop online at many places) there is a lock in the bottom right of your browser window. That means that the page is secure. What secure means is that the hacker would have to get INTO the BCO servers and raid the files. Not likely. Possible but highly unlikely. I got a thank you email for my donation about 15 minutes after I donated.
-
So how do you report a post and get someone to listen when there is a scam on this site? I sent info from the Mississippi secretary of state and attorney general who filed against them in on going investigation involving another "charity" where donations went missing.
-
Dearest Medigal!!!! I just love reading your posts, you are a dear, but most importantly you are so honest and real. You are the real deal. God bless you!!! Kathy
-
speaking of secure - here is a facebook hint:
While on Facebook, look at your URL address (in the bar at the top of the internet).
If you see http: instead of https: then you don't have a secure session and you can be hacked. Go to Account|Account Settings|Account Security and click Change. Check at least the first setting, then click 'save', .. It will change from http to https.
Facebook defaults to the non-secure setting and it is up to us to make it secure.
Facebook (ebay, yahoo microsoft and apple, ind) and BCO use TRUSTe. On Facebook however, the user must choose options to protect one's self. .. Non privacy seems to be the default. Here there are no options as far as I can tell, to make our presence more or less private.. Privacy is the default.

Dear LauraGTO, Your posts sure keep this thread light and funny, thank you for that, you're wonderful. Ladies, I suggest we all meet at a spa retreat to get a little relief from deletions, hacking and spam. Let's just rejoice that are survivors for the moment. thanks and have a great day, Kathy
-
motherofpatient, what are you talking about? A scam here?
-
Hello All,
We are pleased to see that although the tensions still are there, apologies are being made, and we are moving forward in a more open, positive direction.
We thank you for your support, and understanding while we work with our ever-growing community and technological needs.
You may feel more comfortable donating if you read up on Breastcancer.org
http://www.breastcancer.org/about_us/
Our office address is:
Breastcancer.org, 7 E. Lancaster Avenue, 3rd Floor, Ardmore, PA 19003
Thank you All for your honesty, devotion and support to each other and the community.

Thanks for the info Melissa ...
Bren
-
Thank you for the note, Melissa. Hopefully, this thread will attract as much money as energy.
-
Motherofpatient: Don't you think we have enough "energy" going on here without your insinuating about a "scam"? My concerns about "how" to donate without revealing my personal info has nothing to do with thinking the donations are not being used for a good purpose. I trust this forum completely as long as I can stay anonymous. I wonder how far Ardmore, PA is from where I live?? I'll resolve this sooner or later. Thanks ladies for all the helpful but unuseful info. Nobody seems to like my idea of meeting Melissa in disguise at Walmarts so it's back to the drawing boards for me.
I don't use Paypal, or Payenemy or any of those places where I have to give a credit card. I use it at the stores because the way they make you scribble your name NO one can read it and tell who I am. Maybe if I can talk my Onc into taking me off of this mine-blowing Arimidex, I will be able to think clearly and not be so concerned about this issue. I wonder if Donald Trump has these turmoils when he gives donations?
Athena, will you quit talking about leaving us? No one is going to ban you especially not Melissia, imo. See how nice she is being to us and instead of the lawmen she has a "Team" now with her. If you stay, I'll give you my real, fake name I use for my "real" friends. No, I won't. That is too much to ask of me. Have a great day ladies! I have personal business to attend to.
-
I just missed Medigals last post but donating to this site is really not rocket science....as long as you don't have a problem with being totally anonymous and not having a record of donating....that is you don't really care about taking off the donation on your income taxes all you have to do is go to say Walmart and pay cash for a money order.....they ask for your name and you have to sign a register but you don't have to use your real name......
you fill out the money order yourself and how you want to fill it out.....don't think it would make a difference to bc.org and mail it to there physical address.....don't have to include a return address.....
I do have a question though to bc.org......is all the money that is donated to this site.....does it stay here or do you also support other breast cancer organizations.......do you donate money to research or any other kind of breast cancer related grants or fund raisers?
I guess what I am asking does all the money that is donated to bc.org stay at bc.org......whether it is from us or our family members or friends or maybe our businesses that may donate.....just wondering.....shokk
-
JB even though I can understand why some here may have issues with the scope of how bc.org is managed I personally do not.....so I can assure you that you are not speaking what I was thinking or probably what many here are thinking......I do believe that you are speaking to what you are thinking......
but I wouldn't assume that it is what every else may be thinking.....
shokk (I think)
-
Thinking that I know what I'm thinking, I think I agree with what I believe Shokk is thinking.
There is a very long history here, JB, that goes beyond what the casual observer may see.
Edited to add: this second line is a general observation about everything - not about the post that was deleted, which only the mods can explain, I suppose.
-
Every honest, reputable charitable organization clearly states its mission and explains to potential donors WHY it is raising funds, WHEN and WHERE it directs those funds, and HOW those funds have been used. The organization eithers publishes (or has available on request) annual audited financial statements, frequently accompanied by an Annual Report which gives body to it financial statements.
Obviously, it behooves these organizations to use the highest level of security when accepting donations and receipting on-line.
