mammogram plus ultrasound
Was reading article in More magazine about dense breasts. I have been told my one good breast is dense, but have never been advised to have ultrasound along with mammogram. I was Dx with recurrence in Nov 2009 in my bone. I am due mammo this spring. I do know from my first Dx in 2000 no one could feel my 1.6 lump. Ultrasound really showed it more than the mammogram did according to my surgeon. I can't help but think if I had had ultrasound all along, maybe the cancer invasion in my breast tissue would not have been as extensive....I just don't know.
Does anyone here request an ultrasound along with your mammogram now?
Thanks, Kay

It might have helped but maybe not. MRI is much better for dense tissue.

Doctors who don't advise u/s with dense breasts are negligent, IMO. Mine didn't, either. By then it was nearly 2 cm. Not as good as MRI, but better than mammo, alone. There are many studies confirming that.

My every six month mammo always includes an US. I go back to my breast cancer surgeon for them, she is part of a dedicated breast cancer center where they do all their testing right there. I love it as my results are given to me immediately upon seeing her after the mammo and US. I had my breast MRI's done there as well, but those I don't get immediate results on. I am in the Atlanta, GA area.

JB, I had digital for 4 years in a row. Nada. Nearly 2 cm and never showed up. Had the skin not started dimpling, I would not have found it in time.

My BS has requested I have both mammogram and ultrasound at my 1 year mark which the insurance has ok. It makes me feel safe he has requested that. He wanted an MRI but the insurance said no.
