Getting through the breast mri

I had a breast MRI when I was diagnosed, but I'm sure it did not take an hour.  It was more like 30 minutes.  You will be lying on your stomach; that might help you be still.  I really didn't think it was that bad.  Good luck to you!

I've had 6 of them - the actual time I had to stay still was about 40 minutes.  I totally zoned out during them and once I did fall lightly asleep.  It does take time before and after, that is probably where the hour came from.

I've had several and they've all been about 45 minutes in the machine and 15 minutes before and after for the IV, etc.  For me there were some pauses when I could readjust momentarily. What I wish I'd known before the first time was how loud (even with earplugs) the machine is.  It can be jolting because the different pitches are uneven, not an even hum.  I do have a friend who hates them and always takes an antianxiety med before going in.  Wishing you a happy nap in there.

I have now completed surgery, chemo and rads.  I can honestly say the worst part of all of it, in terms of physical discomfort, was the breast MRI.  I hated it.  It lasted close to an hour.  At the end of it, I could not move my arms.  I was bruised for days where they had me laying on that thing that your breasts dangle through. And one of my ear plugs fell out at some point which left me with rining in my ear for a couple of days. OMG it was horrible.  And I have to do one every year now because it picked up stuff that the mammo did not.
