Relaxation/ Meditation CD you'd recommend?
My partner and I want to start to decompress as I'm about to start chemo. We plan to check out some options at a nearby store but thought I'd ask here in case anyone has a great CD they would recommend. Thanks in advance!

I have a wonderful friend of mine that I would recommend to anyone!! She has recordings that she can send and she does meditation over the phone. Its amazing and she's the only person who has ever been able to help me ... please PM me if you are interested ... I don't like to send it over open communication ya know ...

One thing that really helps me relax are chanting cds. There is a good one by Ravi Shankar that is wonderful. Called Chants of India. Hope this isn't too out there for you, the music is stunningly beautiful. There is also a cd by Deepak Chopra that I loved called the Soul of Healing. I would highly recommend this one! Good luck. Sending you peace and healing as you start your treatments. For me it wasn't as bad as I had imagined. I wish you the same experience.

Belleruth Naparstek has a great collection of guided imagery/meditation cds. There's one for chemo, cancer, rads, surgery, stress relief, insomnia, depression, menopause, and the list goes on and on! Andrew Weil has one called Self-Healing with Sound and Music. I had it before diagnosis and used it for meditation, yoga, and for falling asleep to. It's wonderful! Good luck with chemo!

Belleruth Naparstek, second that vote. The ones I got were free via Roche Labs given to me by a social worker.
I also like Denise Linn's "Complete Relaxation."
And Andrew Weil's "Breathing: the Master Key to Self Healing." He gives some techniques that you can use very quickly (like when stopped in traffic) and some that require more time.
Jon Kabat-Zinn, "Guided Mindfulness Meditation."
For music that I find soothing:
Joanne Shenandoah's "Matriarch: Iroquois Women's Songs." I listened to it so much that I can sing most of the songs right along with her, although I know nothing of the Iroquois language. Beautiful CD.
Steven Halpern's "Radiance: Spirit in Sound." Very calming.
I got a few ideas from listening at friends' homes, and I also checked out things from the libraries, so I wasn't spending money on something I didn't end up liking. I highly recommend all the ones I mentioned, but it's really such an individual thing.
Best of luck and a warm hug to you.

Sorry I don't have the link anymore, but when I was first dx'd, I googled guided imagery and got a link to several Belleruth Naperstak guided imagery and affirmation tracks for stress, relaxation, and I believe also for chemo and radiation as well. It was via a Kaiser Permanente site, and you could download the files for free.

Thank you all for great suggestions and your well wishes! I'll let you know how my relaxation goes...

I love threads like this cause I now have a new list of cd's to check out from the library!

Thanks to everyone. While I plan to check out many of the suggestions, right now I've just located the Kaiser Permanente Belleruth Naparstek downloads. It's awesome that they are free. We downloaded the chemo one and dp and I listened to it yesterday. It was amazingly soothing and affirming and afterwards I had energy for a shower and for eating. Recommend them highly! Hope everyone's having a good day. Mine has been productive but I'm ready to nap now...

There is a website call "Do Yoga with Me". Besides free yoga routines, there are also many free meditations, including one for people going through chemo.

Not an official "meditation" CD but one I love is "Forest Piano" - a series of solo piano pieces played against a backdrop of nature sounds - like someone is playing a piano in a meadow or forest full of birds and chattering squirrels next to a stream. If you're a nature, outdoorsy type it might appeal to you.
Here's the link to it on Amazon where you can read the description and listen to samples: http://www.amazon.com/Forest-Piano-John-Herberman/dp/B00004U4UR
