no funds on first of the month

I am going to have financial trouble paying the copays for my chemo and neulasta injections. The copays will almost total about $8,000. I contacted a group that  assists breast cancer patients with copays as recommended by the American Cancer Society. I called them today when they started answer the phone at 11 am to apply for some financial assistance. I was put on hold for 30 minutes waiting for it to be my turn to apply. I then got an automated "voice" stating that they were out of funds for the month and to try again next month. I don't understand how others contacted them before 11 am, I certainly couldn't get through. I don't know how to proceed from here because there is no way that I can come up with this kind of money.

Breast cancer treatment is enough of a stressor. Don't need the financial stress of trying to beat it. Does anyone have any ideas on dealing with these charities that supposedly offer financial help for copays

Hi I went through the same thing in the begining. Where are you located? i know here in Alabama there is a program called the ALABAMA BREAST AND CERVICAL CANCER PROGRAM it pays for yearly mamo and gyn visit. Then if you are diagnosed with either it pays for all treatments through medicaid as long as you are in active treatment. This is all income based. ask your gyn and they should sign you up.It also pays for other medical visits not related to cancer.Hope this helps.

    God Bless

My local cancer center (when I was in South Carolina) got me the co-pays but asked that we give our time on the certain day of the month to make the phone call to the fund - I did the phone calls for six months and never once got through and I called just before 11 each time - I guess it's a volume thing - talk to the social workers where you are getting treatment - they should be able to help you.

Thanks for the info Edw and Sandy.

I am in Florida getting the chemo. The ACS gave me the number of this charity that pays the copays. Perhaps calling the ACS back and explaining what is happening may be beneficial.

All I can say is it is mighty frustrating dealing with financial stress at the same time as  these horrible side effects of chemo.

Thank you both for your input
